This article considers a unified approach based on the mixture method to construct linear bivariate models and those on the cylinder and torus involving the exponential and cardioid distributions with the truncated exponential distribution as the mixing distribution. Parameter estimation of the bivariate model on the torus is considered for the data set of phase angles of circadian-related genes in heart and liver tissues.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a new multivariate pareto (MVP) distribution with many interesting properties. we extend the results of characterization of univariate and bivariate pareto distributions given by Krishnaji (1970) and veenus and Nair (1994) respectively. We also extend the property of dullness of univariate pareto distribution given by Talwalkar (1980) to the multivariate pareto case. We obtain the maximum likelihood estimate (MLE) of the parameters and their asymptotic multivariate normal (AMVN) distrioutions. We propose large sample studentized test for testing independence and identical marginals of the components.  相似文献

In the past few years, the Lindley distribution has gained popularity for modeling lifetime data as an alternative to the exponential distribution. This paper provides two new characterizations of the Lindley distribution. The first characterization is based on a relation between left truncated moments and failure rate function. The second characterization is based on a relation between right truncated moments and reversed failure rate function.  相似文献

In this paper we extend GUPTA'S (1975) resLilt and show that the constant value of a truncated moment characterizes the exponential distribution. Similar results are prov¬ed in the discrete case and it is shown that two consecutive factorial moments are enough to determine the distribution. However, under mild conditions, the constancy of one fac¬torial moment is enough to guarantee that the distribution is geometric. Considering the truncation on the right, a general method of obtaining the distribution, whenever £(h(X) | Xj) is known, is fxmbitud in tnr continuous and in the discrete case. Several of the known characterization theorems toilow trivially trorn our results  相似文献

The subtangent is the projection of the tangent upon the axis of abscissa. The usefulness of the reciprocal subtangent as a measure of the survival and density curves has earlier been reported in the literature for univariate distributions. This measure was generalized for bivariate and multivariate setups and related characterization problems were examined. The conditionally specified bivariate exponential distribution has been uniquely determined from the local constancy of the bivariate reciprocal subtangents. The case of global constancy and other related results have been studied.

Conditionally specified bivariate Lomax distribution and normal distribution were also studied. Further, the conditionally specified multivariate exponential distribution was uniquely determined from the local constancy of the multivariate reciprocal subtangents.  相似文献

In this paper, a multivariate form of truncated generalized Cauchy distribution (TGCD), which is denoted by (MVTGCD), is introduced. The joint density function, conditional density function, moment generating function and mixed moments of order ${b=\sum_{i=1}^{k}b_{i}}$ are obtained. Making use of the mixed moments formula, skewness and kurtosis in case of the bivariate case are obtained. Also, all parameters of the distribution are estimated using the maximum likelihood and Bayes methods. A real data set is introduced and analyzed using three models. The first model is the bivariate Cauchy distribution, the second is the truncated bivariate Cauchy distribution and the third is the bivariate truncated generalized Cauchy distribution. A comparison is carried out between the mentioned models based on the corresponding Kolmogorov–Smirnov (K–S) test statistic to emphasize that the bivariate truncated generalized Cauchy model fits the data better than the other models.  相似文献

Epstein [Truncated life tests in the exponential case, Ann. Math. Statist. 25 (1954), pp. 555–564] introduced a hybrid censoring scheme (called Type-I hybrid censoring) and Chen and Bhattacharyya [Exact confidence bounds for an exponential parameter under hybrid censoring, Comm. Statist. Theory Methods 17 (1988), pp. 1857–1870] derived the exact distribution of the maximum-likelihood estimator (MLE) of the mean of a scaled exponential distribution based on a Type-I hybrid censored sample. Childs et al. [Exact likelihood inference based on Type-I and Type-II hybrid censored samples from the exponential distribution, Ann. Inst. Statist. Math. 55 (2003), pp. 319–330] provided an alternate simpler expression for this distribution, and also developed analogous results for another hybrid censoring scheme (called Type-II hybrid censoring). The purpose of this paper is to derive the exact bivariate distribution of the MLE of the parameter vector of a two-parameter exponential model based on hybrid censored samples. The marginal distributions are derived and exact confidence bounds for the parameters are obtained. The results are also used to derive the exact distribution of the MLE of the pth quantile, as well as the corresponding confidence bounds. These exact confidence intervals are then compared with parametric bootstrap confidence intervals in terms of coverage probabilities. Finally, we present some numerical examples to illustrate the methods of inference developed here.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a bivariate discrete generalized exponential distribution, whose marginals are discrete generalized exponential distribution as proposed by Nekoukhou, Alamatsaz and Bidram [Discrete generalized exponential distribution of a second type. Statistics. 2013;47:876–887]. It is observed that the proposed bivariate distribution is a very flexible distribution and the bivariate geometric distribution can be obtained as a special case of this distribution. The proposed distribution can be seen as a natural discrete analogue of the bivariate generalized exponential distribution proposed by Kundu and Gupta [Bivariate generalized exponential distribution. J Multivariate Anal. 2009;100:581–593]. We study different properties of this distribution and explore its dependence structures. We propose a new EM algorithm to compute the maximum-likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters which can be implemented very efficiently, and discuss some inferential issues also. The analysis of one data set has been performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed model. Finally, we propose some open problems and conclude the paper.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a bivariate weighted exponential distribution based on the generalized exponential distribution. This class of distributions generalizes the bivariate distribution with weighted exponential marginals (BWE). We derive different properties of this new distribution. It is a four-parameter distribution, and the maximum-likelihood estimator of unknown parameters cannot be obtained in explicit forms. One data set has been re-analyzed and it is observed that the proposed distribution provides better fit than the BWE distribution.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the relationship between the failure rate and the mean residual life of doubly truncated random variables. Accordingly, we develop characterizations for exponential, Pareto II and beta distributions. Further, we generalize the identities for the Pearson and the exponential family of distributions given respectively in Nair and Sankaran (1991) and Consul (1995). Applications of these measures in the context of lengthbiased models are also explored.  相似文献

The lack of memory property is a characterizing property of the exponential distribution in the continuous domain. In the bivariate setup different generalizations of the same are available in terms of survival function. We extend this lack of memory property in terms of bivariate probability density function and examine its characterization properties. In this process the density version of the lack of memory property can be interlinked with conditionally specified exponential distribution, bivariate reciprocal coordinate subtangent of the density curve and a few other derived measures.  相似文献

In this paper, we have considered the problem of finding the distribution of a linear combination of the minimum and the maximum for a general bivariate distribution. The general results are used to obtain the required distribution in the case of bivariate normal, bivariate exponential of Arnold and Strauss, absolutely continuous bivariate exponential distribution of Block and Basu, bivariate exponential distribution of Raftery, Freund's bivariate exponential distribution and Gumbel's bivariate exponential distribution. The distributions of the minimum and maximum are obtained as special cases.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a system consisting of two dependent components and we are interested in the average remaining life of the component that fails last when (i) the first failure occurs at time t and (ii) the first failure occurs after time t. For both the cases, expressions are derived in the case of general bivariate normal distribution and a class of bivariate exponential distribution including bivariate exponential distribution of Arnold and Strauss, absolutely continuous bivariate exponential distribution of Block and Basu, bivariate exponential distribution of Raftery, Freund's bivariate exponential distribution and Gumbel's bivariate exponential distribution.  相似文献

In this note we provide a characterization of the exponential distribution by means of the coincidence of location and truncated densities. We provide two proofs. The first is obtained directly via simple calculus while the second hinges on the characterization of the exponential distribution by its constant hazard rate.  相似文献

In this article it is shown that a bivariate random variable has a constant failure rate, and mixture geometric marginals, if and only if, it has the loss of memory property and the discrete Freund distribution. This characterization is achieved by extending a key lemma in this area. The mixture geometric can be collapsed to geometric marginals, thus validating the results.  相似文献

Recently, Kambo and his co-researchers (2012) proposed a method of approximation for evaluating the one-dimensional renewal function based on the first three moments. Their method is simple and elegant, which gives exact values for well-known distributions. In this article, we propose an analogous method for the evaluation of bivariate renewal function based on the first two moments of the variables and their joint moment. The proposed method yields exact results for certain widely used bivariate distributions like bivariate exponential distribution, bivariate Weibull distributions, and bivariate Pareto distributions. An illustrative example in the form of a two-dimensional warranty problem is considered and comparisons of our method are made with the results of other models.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider some results on distribution theory of multivariate progressively Type‐II censored order statistics. We also establish some characterizations of Freund's bivariate exponential distribution based on the lack of memory property.  相似文献

This paper provides three different estimators for Pr(X < Y) when X and Y have a bivariate exponential distribution. The asymptotic variances of the three estimators are also derived. A test for the equality of the means of X and Y and confidence limits for the difference of the two means are presented. Our results are directly applicable in a reliability context with underlying bivariate exponential distribution.  相似文献

In this paper, two bivariate exponential distributions based on time(right) censored samples are presented. We assume that the censoring time is independent of the life-times of the two components. This paper obtains comparison of different tests for testing zero and non-zero values of the parameter λ3 which measures the degree of

dependence between the two components and also testing symmetry of the two components or λ12 in

the bivariate exponential distribution (BVED) formulated by Marshall and Olkin (1967) based on the above censored sample. It is observed from simulated study that the test based on MLE's performs better in both tests of independence as well as symmetry. The above results have been extended also in Block and Basu (19874) model.  相似文献

Arnold and Strauss (1988) derived a family of bivariate life distributions having the property that the conditional distributions are exponential. Asymptotic distributions for the marginal and bivariate extremes for this family of distributions are derived employing the asymptotic theory of extreme order statistics.  相似文献
