A Box-Cox transformed linear model usually has the form y(λ) = μ + β1x1 +… + βpxp + oe, where y(λ) is the power transform of y. Although widely used in practice, the Fisher information matrix for the unknown parameters and, in particular, its inverse have not been studied seriously in the literature. We obtain those two important matrices to put the Box-Cox transformed linear model on a firmer ground. The question of how to make inference on β = (β1,…,βp)T when λ; is estimated from the data is then discussed for large but finite sample size by studying some parameter-based asymptotics. Both unconditional and conditional inference are studied from the frequentist point of view.  相似文献

Consistency and asymptotic normality of the maximum likelihood estimator of β in the loglinear model E(yi) = eα+βXi, where yi are independent Poisson observations, 1 iaan, are proved under conditions which are near necessary and sufficient. The asymptotic distribution of the deviance test for β=β0 is shown to be chi-squared with 1 degree of freedom under the same conditions, and a second order correction to the deviance is derived. The exponential model for censored survival data is also treated by the same methods.  相似文献

Let π1 and π2 be two exponential populations with location parameters α and β respectively. It is shown that the probability of misclassification for the optimal rule, RE, depends on α and β only through their ratio α/β=r, and that the smaller the ratio r (i.e. the smaller α is compared to β), the greater the superiority of the optimal rule RE over the commonly used rule RN. When α and β are unknown, the sample-based version RE(s) of RE exhibits the same pattern of superiority over the sample-based RN(s) of RN.  相似文献

Suppose one estimates the coefficient β2 in E[Y] = β0 + β1 X 1 + β2 X 2 by stagewise regression. That is, first the model E[Y] ≌ β0 + β1 X 1 is fit using simple linear regression followed by a simple linear regression of the residuals from this model on X 2 to yield the estimator β2. The ratio of the squared t statistic for the estimate b 2 from multiple regression to the squared t statistic for β2 is greater than or equal to 1.0 and is shown to be a convenient function of correlation coefficients among Y, X 1, and X 2. Examination of stagewise regression can provide useful insights when introducing concepts of multiple regression.  相似文献

In this study, we introduce the Heine process, {Xq(t), t > 0}, 0 < q < 1, where the random variable Xq(t), for every t > 0, represents the number of events (occurrences or arrivals) during a time interval (0, t]. The Heine process is introduced as a q-analog of the basic Poisson process. Also, in this study, we prove that the distribution of the waiting time Wν, q, ν ? 1, up to the νth arrival, is a q-Erlang distribution and the interarrival times Tk, q = Wk, q ? In this paper we consider the heteroscedastic regression model defined by the structural relation Y = r(V, β) + s(W)ε, where V is a p-dimensional random vector, W is a q-dimensional random vector, β is an unknown vector in some open subset B of Rm, r is a known function from Rp × B into R, s is an unknown function on Rq, and ε is an unobservable random variable that is independent of the pair (V, W). The authors propose a two‐stage estimation procedure for the partially linear model Y = fo(T) + X'βo + ψ. They show how to estimate consistently the location of the nonzero components of βo. Their approach turns out to be compatible with minimax adaptive estimation of fo over Besov balls in the case of penalized least squares. We consider a recurrent event wherein the inter‐event times are independent and identically distributed with a common absolutely continuous distribution function F. In this article, interest is in the problem of testing the null hypothesis that F belongs to some parametric family where the q‐dimensional parameter is unknown. We propose a general Chi‐squared test in which cell boundaries are data dependent. An estimator of the parameter obtained by minimizing a quadratic form resulting from a properly scaled vector of differences between Observed and Expected frequencies is used to construct the test. This estimator is known as the minimum chi‐square estimator. Large sample properties of the proposed test statistic are established using empirical processes tools. A simulation study is conducted to assess the performance of the test under parameter misspecification, and our procedures are applied to a fleet of Boeing 720 jet planes' air conditioning system failures.  相似文献

Suppose the probability model for failure time data, subject to censoring, is specified by the hazard function λ(t)exp(βT x), where x is a vector of covariates. Analytical difficulties involved in finding the optimal design are avoided by assuming that λ is completely specified and by using D-optimality based on the information matrix for β Optimal designs are found to depend on β, but some results of practical consequence are obtained. It is found that censoring does not affect the choice of design appreciably when βT x ≥ 0 for all points of the feasible region, but may have an appreciable effect when βixi 0, for all i and all points in the feasible experimental region. The nature of the effect is discussed in detail for the cases of one and two parameters. It is argued that in practical biomedical situations the optimal design is almost always the same as for uncensored data.  相似文献

Bahadur (1966) presented a representation of an order statistic, giving its asymptotic distribution and the rate of convergence, under weak assumptions on the density function of the parent distribution. In this paper we consider the mean(squared) deviation of the error term in Bahadur’s approximation of the q th sample quantile (qn ). We derive a uniform bound on the mean (squared) deviation of qn , not depending on the value of q. In this paper, a generalized difference-based estimator is introduced for the vector parameter β in the semiparametric regression model when the errors are correlated. A generalized difference-based Liu estimator is defined for the vector parameter β in the semiparametric regression model. Under the linear nonstochastic constraint Rβ=r, the generalized restricted difference-based Liu estimator is given. The risk function for the β?GRD(η) associated with weighted balanced loss function is presented. The performance of the proposed estimators is evaluated by a simulated data set.  相似文献

One important property of any drug product is its stability over time. Drug stability studies are routinely carried out in the pharmaceutical industry in order to measure the degradation of an active pharmaceutical ingredient of a drug product. One important study objective is to estimate the shelf-life of the drug; the estimated shelf-life is required by the US Food and Drug Administration to be printed on the package label of the drug. This involves a suitable definition of the true shelf-life and the construction of an appropriate estimate of the true shelf-life. In this paper, the true shelf-life Tβ is defined as the time point at which 100β% of all the individual dosage units (e.g. tablets) of the drug have the active ingredient content no less than the lowest acceptable limit L, where β and L are prespecified constants. The value of Tβ depends on the parameters of the assumed degradation model of the active ingredient content and so is unknown. A lower confidence bound T?β for Tβ is then provided and used as the estimated shelf-life of the drug.  相似文献

In some situations the asymptotic distribution of a random function T n() that depends on a nuisance parameter is tractable when has known value. In that case it can be used as a test statistic, if suitably constructed, for some hypothesis. However, in practice, often needs to be replaced by an estimator S n. In this paper general results are given concerning the asymptotic distribution of T n(S n) that include special cases previously dealt with. It is shown that any estimated GLS estimator for β is asymptotically equivalent to the GLS estimator under some regularity conditions. Distributions that satisfy these conditions include those with decreasing hazard rates (e.g., the gamma and Weibull distributions with shape parameters less than 1) and the beta distribution with parameter values p and q for which q > p(p + q + 1). The paper discusses D-optimal axial designs for the additive quadratic and cubic mixture models σ1≤i≤qixi + βiix2i) and σ1≤i≤qixi + βiix2i + βiiix3i), where xi≥ 0, x1 + . . . + xq = 1. For the quadratic model, a saturated symmetric axial design is used, in which support points are of the form (x1, . . . , xq) = [1 ? (q?1)δi, δi, . . . , δi], where i = 1, 2 and 0 ≤δ2 <δ1 ≤ 1/(q ?1). It is proved that when 3 ≤q≤ 6, the above design is D-optimal if δ2 = 0 and δ1 = 1/(q?1), and when q≥ 7 it is D-optimal if δ2 = 0 and δ1 = [5q?1 ? (9q2?10q + 1)1/2]/(4q2). Similar results exist for the cubic model, with support points of the form (x1, . . . , xq) = [1 ? (q?1)δi, δi, . . . , δi], where i = 1, 2, 3 and 0 = δ3 <δ2 < δ1 ≤1/(q?1). The saturated D-optimal axial design and D-optimal design for the quadratic model are compared in terms of their efficiency and uniformity.  相似文献

This paper considers estimation of the function g in the model Yt = g(Xt ) + ?t when E(?t|Xt) ≠ 0 with nonzero probability. We assume the existence of an instrumental variable Zt that is independent of ?t, and of an innovation ηt = XtE(Xt|Zt). We use a nonparametric regression of Xt on Zt to obtain residuals ηt, which in turn are used to obtain a consistent estimator of g. The estimator was first analyzed by Newey, Powell & Vella (1999) under the assumption that the observations are independent and identically distributed. Here we derive a sample mean‐squared‐error convergence result for independent identically distributed observations as well as a uniform‐convergence result under time‐series dependence.  相似文献

This article studies a new procedure to test for the equality of k regression curves in a fully non‐parametric context. The test is based on the comparison of empirical estimators of the characteristic functions of the regression residuals in each population. The asymptotic behaviour of the test statistic is studied in detail. It is shown that under the null hypothesis, the distribution of the test statistic converges to a finite combination of independent chi‐squared random variables with one degree of freedom. The coefficients in this linear combination can be consistently estimated. The proposed test is able to detect contiguous alternatives converging to the null at the rate n ? 1 ∕ 2. The practical performance of the test based on the asymptotic null distribution is investigated by means of simulations.  相似文献
