Two-dimensional renewal functions, which are naturally extensions of one-dimensional renewal functions, have wide applicability in areas where two random variables are needed to characterize the underlying process. These functions satisfy the renewal equation, which is not amenable for analytical solutions. This paper proposes a simple approximation for the computation of the two- dimensional renewal function based only on the first two moments and the correlation coefficient of the variables. The approximation yields exact values of renewal function for bivariate exponential distribution function. Illustrations are presented to compare our approximation with that of Iskandar (1991) who provided a computational procedure which requires the use of the bivariate distribution function of the two variables. A two-dimensional warranty model is used to illustrate the approximation.  相似文献

Abstract

Motivated by Caginalp and Caginalp [Physica A—Statistical Mechanics and Its Applications, 499, 2018, 457–471], we derive the exact distribution of X/Y conditioned on X?>?0, Y?>?0 for more than ten classes of distributions, including the bivariate t, bivariate Cauchy, bivariate Lomax, Arnold and Strauss’ bivariate exponential, Balakrishna and Shiji’s bivariate exponential, Mohsin et al.’s bivariate exponential, Morgenstern type bivariate exponential, bivariate gamma exponential and bivariate alpha skew normal distributions. The results can be useful in finance and other areas.  相似文献

Over the years many researchers have dealt with testing the hypotheses of symmetry in univariate and multivariate distributions in the parametric and nonparametric setup. In a multivariate setup, there are several formulations of symmetry, for example, symmetry about an axis, joint symmetry, marginal symmetry, radial symmetry, symmetry about a known point, spherical symmetry, and elliptical symmetry among others. In this paper, for the bivariate case, we formulate a concept of symmetry about a straight line passing through the origin in a plane and accordingly develop a simple nonparametric test for testing the hypothesis of symmetry about a straight line. The proposed test is based on a measure of deviance between observed counts of bivariate samples in suitably defined pairs of sets. The exact null distribution and non-null distribution, for specified classes of alternatives, of the test statistics are obtained. The null distribution is tabulated for sample size from n=5 up to n=30. The null mean, null variance and the asymptotic null distributions of the proposed test statistics are also obtained. The empirical power of the proposed test is evaluated by simulating samples from the suitable class of bivariate distributions. The empirical findings suggest that the test performs reasonably well against various classes of asymmetric bivariate distributions. Further, it is advocated that the basic idea developed in this work can be easily adopted to test the hypotheses of exchangeability of bivariate random variables and also bivariate symmetry about a given axis which have been considered by several authors in the past.  相似文献

The exact probability density function of a bivariate chi-square distribution with two correlated components is derived. Some moments of the product and ratio of two correlated chi-square random variables have been derived. The ratio of the two correlated chi-square variables is used to compare variability. One such application is referred to. Another application is pinpointed in connection with the distribution of correlation coefficient based on a bivariate t distribution.   相似文献

ABSTRACT

A bivariate integer-valued autoregressive time series model is presented. The model structure is based on binomial thinning. The unconditional and conditional first and second moments are considered. Correlation structure of marginal processes is shown to be analogous to the ARMA(2, 1) model. Some estimation methods such as the Yule–Walker and conditional least squares are considered and the asymptotic distributions of the obtained estimators are derived. Comparison between bivariate model with binomial thinning and bivariate model with negative binomial thinning is given.  相似文献

This paper has two parts. In the first part some results for generalized gamma convolutions (GGCs) are reviewed. A GGC is a limit distribution for sums of independent gamma variables. In the second part, bivariate gamma distributions and bivariate GGCs are considered. New bivariate gamma distributions are derived from shot-noise models. The remarkable property hyperbolic complete monotonicity (HCM) for a function is considered both in the univariate case and in the bivariate case.  相似文献

A new model is proposed for the joint distribution of paired survival times generated from clinical trials and certain reliability settings. The new model can be considered an extension to the bivariate exponential models studied in the literature. Here, a more flexible bivariate Weibull model will be derived, and two exact parametric tests for testing the equality of marginal survival distributions are developed.  相似文献

We consider the estimation of the expected sojourn time in a Markov renewal process under the data condition that only the counts of the exits from the states are available for fixed intervals of time. For analytical and illustrative purposes we concentrate on the two-state process case. We present least squares and method of moments estimators and compare their statistical properties both analytically and empirically. We also present modified estimators with improved properties based upon an overlapping interval sampling strategy. The major results indicate that the least squares estimator is biased in general with the bias depending on the size of the sampling interval and the first two moments of the sojourn time distribution function. The bias becomes negligible as the size of the sampling interval increases. Analytical and empirical results indicate that the method of moments estimator is less sensitive to the size of the sampling interval and has slightly better mean squared error properties than the least squares estimator.  相似文献

In this article, we consider the inclusion of random effects in both the survival function for at-risk subjects and the cure probability assuming a bivariate normal distribution for those effects in each cluster. For parameter estimation, we implemented the restricted maximum likelihood (REML) approach. We consider Weibull and Piecewise Exponential distributions to model the survival function for non-cured individuals. Simulation studies are performed, and based on a real database we evaluate the performance of our proposed model. Effect of different follow-up times and the effect of considering independent random effects instead of bivariate random effects are also studied.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a bivariate Kumaraswamy (BVK) distribution whose marginals are Kumaraswamy distributions. The cumulative distribution function of this bivariate model has absolutely continuous and singular parts. Representations for the cumulative and density functions are presented and properties such as marginal and conditional distributions, product moments and conditional moments are obtained. We show that the BVK model can be obtained from the Marshall and Olkin survival copula and obtain a tail dependence measure. The estimation of the parameters by maximum likelihood is discussed and the Fisher information matrix is determined. We propose an EM algorithm to estimate the parameters. Some simulations are presented to verify the performance of the direct maximum-likelihood estimation and the proposed EM algorithm. We also present a method to generate bivariate distributions from our proposed BVK distribution. Furthermore, we introduce a BVK distribution which has only an absolutely continuous part and discuss some of its properties. Finally, a real data set is analysed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

In this article, we develop an empirical Bayesian approach for the Bayesian estimation of parameters in four bivariate exponential (BVE) distributions. We have opted for gamma distribution as a prior for the parameters of the model in which the hyper parameters have been estimated based on the method of moments and maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs). A simulation study was conducted to compute empirical Bayesian estimates of the parameters and their standard errors. We use moment estimators or MLEs to estimate the hyper parameters of the prior distributions. Furthermore, we compare the posterior mode of parameters obtained by different prior distributions and the Bayesian estimates based on gamma priors are very close to the true values as compared to improper priors. We use MCMC method to obtain the posterior mean and compared the same using the improper priors and the classical estimates, MLEs.  相似文献

A new local dependence function based on regression concepts is introduced. This function can characterize the dependence structure of two random variables localized at the fixed point. Some properties of the local dependence function are given. Examples of important bivariate distributions are provided.  相似文献

The exact distribution of a renewal counting process is not easy to compute and is rarely of closed form. In this article, we approximate the distribution of a renewal process using families of generalized Poisson distributions. We first compute approximations to the first several moments of the renewal process. In some cases, a closed form approximation is obtained. It is found that each family considered has its own strengths and weaknesses. Some new families of generalized Poisson distributions are recommended. Theorems are obtained determining when these variance to mean ratios are less than (or exceed) one without having to find the mean and variance. Some numerical comparisons are also made.  相似文献

Recently, Lee and Cha proposed two general classes of discrete bivariate distributions. They have discussed some general properties and some specific cases of their proposed distributions. In this paper we have considered one model, namely bivariate discrete Weibull distribution, which has not been considered in the literature yet. The proposed bivariate discrete Weibull distribution is a discrete analogue of the Marshall–Olkin bivariate Weibull distribution. We study various properties of the proposed distribution and discuss its interesting physical interpretations. The proposed model has four parameters, and because of that it is a very flexible distribution. The maximum likelihood estimators of the parameters cannot be obtained in closed forms, and we have proposed a very efficient nested EM algorithm which works quite well for discrete data. We have also proposed augmented Gibbs sampling procedure to compute Bayes estimates of the unknown parameters based on a very flexible set of priors. Two data sets have been analyzed to show how the proposed model and the method work in practice. We will see that the performances are quite satisfactory. Finally, we conclude the paper.  相似文献

The bivariate normal density with unit variance and correlation ρ is well known. We show that by integrating out ρ, the result is a function of the maximum norm. The Bayesian interpretation of this result is that if we put a uniform prior over ρ, then the marginal bivariate density depends only on the maximal magnitude of the variables. The square-shaped isodensity contour of this resulting marginal bivariate density can also be regarded as the equally weighted mixture of bivariate normal distributions over all possible correlation coefficients. This density links to the Khintchine mixture method of generating random variables. We use this method to construct the higher dimensional generalizations of this distribution. We further show that for each dimension, there is a unique multivariate density that is a differentiable function of the maximum norm and is marginally normal, and the bivariate density from the integral over ρ is its special case in two dimensions.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new bivariate distribution, namely bivariate alpha-skew-normal distribution. The proposed distribution is very flexible and capable of generalizing the univariate alpha-skew-normal distribution as its marginal component distributions; it features a probability density function with up to two modes and has the bivariate normal distribution as a special case. The joint moment generating function as well as the main moments are provided. Inference is based on a usual maximum-likelihood estimation approach. The asymptotic properties of the maximum-likelihood estimates are verified in light of a simulation study. The usefulness of the new model is illustrated in a real benchmark data.  相似文献

Block and Basu bivariate exponential distribution is one of the most popular absolute continuous bivariate distributions. Recently, Kundu and Gupta [A class of absolute continuous bivariate distributions. Statist Methodol. 2010;7:464–477] introduced Block and Basu bivariate Weibull (BBBW) distribution, which is a generalization of the Block and Basu bivariate exponential distribution, and provided the maximum likelihood estimators using EM algorithm. In this paper, we consider the Bayesian inference of the unknown parameters of the BBBW distribution. The Bayes estimators are obtained with respect to the squared error loss function, and the prior distributions allow for prior dependence among the unknown parameters. Prior independence also can be obtained as a special case. It is observed that the Bayes estimators of the unknown parameters cannot be obtained in explicit forms. We propose to use the importance sampling technique to compute the Bayes estimates and also to construct the associated highest posterior density credible intervals. The analysis of two data sets has been performed for illustrative purposes. The performances of the proposed estimators are quite satisfactory. Finally, we generalize the results for the multivariate case.  相似文献

In this article, by using the dropping argument, a general recurrence relation satisfied by the joint cumulative distribution functions of order statistics from any arbitrary bivariate distribution function is established. This recurrence relation is the first bivariate version of the basic triangle rule for order statistics arisen from univariate distribution function. Finally, this relation is extended to the trivariate case. These lead to similar identities for product moments (of any order) of order statistics.  相似文献

Many characterization results of the bivariate exponential distribution and the bivariate geometric distribution have been proved in the literature. Recently Nair and Nair (1988b, Ann. Inst. Statist. Math. 40 (2), 267–271) obtained a characterization result of the Gumbel bivariate exponential distribution and a bivariate geometric distribution based on truncated moments. In this note, we extend the results of Nair and Nair (1988b) to obtain a general result, characterizing these two bivariate distributions based on the truncated expectation of a function h, satisfying some mild conditions.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a new class of bivariate distributions whose marginals are beta-generated distributions. Copulas are employed to construct this bivariate extension of the beta-generated distributions. It is shown that when Archimedean copulas and convex beta generators are used in generating bivariate distributions, the copulas of the resulting distributions also belong to the Archimedean family. The dependence of the proposed bivariate distributions is examined. Simulation results for beta generators and an application to financial risk management are presented.  相似文献
