There are many problems in the real world for which it is necessary to perform two points in one block. In this situation, information about certain treatments may be indistinguishable from, or confounded with, blocks. If the experimenter wants to estimate all main effects and two-factor interactions in which two points are in one block, then how to perform the blocking schemes is an important topic to study. In this article, we combine several 2 k?p fractions from same or different family to obtain better combined designs requiring fewer runs than those appearing in the literature.  相似文献

It is well known that Yates' algorithm can be used to estimate the effects in a factorial design. We develop a modification of this algorithm and call it modified Yates' algorithm and its inverse. We show that the intermediate steps in our algorithm have a direct interpretation as estimated level-specific mean values and effects. Also we show how Yates' or our modified algorithm can be used to construct the blocks in a 2 k factorial design and to generate the layout sheet of a 2 k−p fractional factorial design and the confounding pattern in such a design. In a final example we put together all these methods by generating and analysing a 26-2 design with 2 blocks.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the construction of optimal blocked main effects designs where m two-level factors are to be studied in N runs which are partitioned into b blocks of equal size. For N ≡ 2±od4 sufficient conditions are derived for a design to be Φ f optimal among all designs having main effects occurring equally often at their high and low levels within blocks and then this result is extended to the class of all designs for the case when the block size is two. Methods of constructing designs satisfying the sufficient conditions derived are also given.  相似文献

Minimal neighbor designs and GN2 designs in linear blocks are constructed for all admissible parameter sets. The method is straightforward and uses subsequences of the LWW terrace as initial blocks from which the remaining blocks are generated.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper considers a partially non linear model E(Y|X, z, t) = f(X, β) + zTg(t) and gives its T-type estimate, which is a weighted quasi-likelihood estimate using sieve method and can be obtained by EM algorithm. The influence functions and asymptotic properties of T-type estimate (consistency and asymptotic normality) are discussed, and convergence rate of both parametric and non parametric components are obtained. Simulation results show the shape of influence functions and prove that the T-type estimate performs quite well. The proposed estimate is also applied to a data set and compared with the least square estimate and least absolute deviation estimate.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the superimposed exponential signals in zero-mean multiplicative and additive noise when all the noise are independently and identically distributed. We use a three-step iterative procedure to estimate the frequencies of the considered model. It is observed that the estimators are consistent and work quite well in terms of biases and mean square errors. Moreover, the convergence rate of the estimators attains O p (N ?3/2), which is the best convergence rate in the case of only additive noise and constant amplitude.  相似文献

Appropriate run orders can make all estimable effects free of some trends in blocked fractional factorial experiments. We need to design blocked experiments with effects free of trends in blocks. The generalized foldover scheme given by Coster (1993 Coster , D. C. ( 1993 ). Trend-free run orders of mixed-level fractional factorial designs . Ann. Statist. 21 : 20722086 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) can be used to obtain such designs. In this article, we propose an easy and better approach to deal with this issue when the same trends appear in blocks. We investigate block trend property of columns in the orthogonal plans in s k runs for assigning factors to obtain block-trend free designs in a trend-free order. We illustrate our approach with three examples.  相似文献

This paper proposes a variable selection method for detecting abnormal items based on the T2 test when the observations on abnormal items are available. Based on the unbiased estimates of the powers for all subsets of variables, the variable selection method selects the subset of variables that maximizes the power estimate. Since more than one subsets of variables maximize the power estimate frequently, the averaged p-value of the rejected items is used as a second criterion. Although the performance of the method depends on the sample size for the abnormal items and the true power values for all subsets of variables, numerical experiments show the effectiveness of the proposed method. Since normal and abnormal items are simulated using one-factor and two-factor models, basic properties of the power functions for the models are investigated.  相似文献

The classical histogram method has already been applied in line transect sampling to estimate the parameter f(0), which in turns is used to estimate the population abundance D or the population size N. It is well know that the bias convergence rate for histogram estimator of f(0) is o(h2) as h → 0, under the shoulder condition assumption. If the shoulder condition is not true, then the bias convergence rate is only o(h). This paper proposed two new estimators for f(0), which can be considered as modifications of the classical histogram estimator. The first estimator is derived when the shoulder condition is assumed to be valid and it reduces the bias convergence rate from o(h2) to o(h3). The other one is constructed without using the shoulder condition assumption and it reduces the bias convergence rate from o(h) to o(h2). The asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators are derived and formulas for bin width are also given. The finite properties based on a real data set and an extensive simulation study demonstrated the potential practical use of the proposed estimators.  相似文献

In this article, we consider experimental situations in which m 2-level factors are to be studied using a main effects plan where n runs are to be partitioned into b blocks having both even and odd sizes. For these cases, we give some simple methods for constructing E-optimal designs.  相似文献

Abstract. For probability distributions on ? q, a detailed study of the breakdown properties of some multivariate M‐functionals related to Tyler's [Ann. Statist. 15 (1987) 234] ‘distribution‐free’ M‐functional of scatter is given. These include a symmetrized version of Tyler's M‐functional of scatter, and the multivariate t M‐functionals of location and scatter. It is shown that for ‘smooth’ distributions, the (contamination) breakdown point of Tyler's M‐functional of scatter and of its symmetrized version are 1/q and , respectively. For the multivariate t M‐functional which arises from the maximum likelihood estimate for the parameters of an elliptical t distribution on ν ≥ 1 degrees of freedom the breakdown point at smooth distributions is 1/( q + ν). Breakdown points are also obtained for general distributions, including empirical distributions. Finally, the sources of breakdown are investigated. It turns out that breakdown can only be caused by contaminating distributions that are concentrated near low‐dimensional subspaces.  相似文献

This article considers fixed effects (FE) estimation for linear panel data models under possible model misspecification when both the number of individuals, n, and the number of time periods, T, are large. We first clarify the probability limit of the FE estimator and argue that this probability limit can be regarded as a pseudo-true parameter. We then establish the asymptotic distributional properties of the FE estimator around the pseudo-true parameter when n and T jointly go to infinity. Notably, we show that the FE estimator suffers from the incidental parameters bias of which the top order is O(T? 1), and even after the incidental parameters bias is completely removed, the rate of convergence of the FE estimator depends on the degree of model misspecification and is either (nT)? 1/2 or n? 1/2. Second, we establish asymptotically valid inference on the (pseudo-true) parameter. Specifically, we derive the asymptotic properties of the clustered covariance matrix (CCM) estimator and the cross-section bootstrap, and show that they are robust to model misspecification. This establishes a rigorous theoretical ground for the use of the CCM estimator and the cross-section bootstrap when model misspecification and the incidental parameters bias (in the coefficient estimate) are present. We conduct Monte Carlo simulations to evaluate the finite sample performance of the estimators and inference methods, together with a simple application to the unemployment dynamics in the U.S.  相似文献

Approximate normality and unbiasedness of the maximum likelihood estimate (MLE) of the long-memory parameter H of a fractional Brownian motion hold reasonably well for sample sizes as small as 20 if the mean and scale parameter are known. We show in a Monte Carlo study that if the latter two parameters are unknown the bias and variance of the MLE of H both increase substantially. We also show that the bias can be reduced by using a parametric bootstrap procedure. In very large samples, maximum likelihood estimation becomes problematic because of the large dimension of the covariance matrix that must be inverted. To overcome this difficulty, we propose a maximum likelihood method based upon first differences of the data. These first differences form a short-memory process. We split the data into a number of contiguous blocks consisting of a relatively small number of observations. Computation of the likelihood function in a block then presents no computational problem. We form a pseudo-likelihood function consisting of the product of the likelihood functions in each of the blocks and provide a formula for the standard error of the resulting estimator of H. This formula is shown in a Monte Carlo study to provide a good approximation to the true standard error. The computation time required to obtain the estimate and its standard error from large data sets is an order of magnitude less than that required to obtain the widely used Whittle estimator. Application of the methodology is illustrated on two data sets.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, we consider experimental situations in which m two-lever factors are to be studied using a two-level main effects plan involving n runs which are partitioned into b blocks of size k =?n/b. For the casen ≡ 1(mod?4) and b???k, we derive some new methods of constructing E-optimal designs which tend to be highly efficient under other optimality criteria as well.  相似文献

A series of weakly resolvable search designs for the pn factorial experiment is given for which the mean and all main effects are estimable in the presence of any number of two-factor interactions and for which any combination of three or fewer pairs of factors that interact may be detected. The designs have N = p(p–1)n+p runs except in one case where additional runs are required for detection and one case where (p?1)2 additional runs are needed to estimate all (p–1)2 degrees of freedom for each pair of detected interactions. The detection procedure is simple enough that computations can be carried out with hand calculations.  相似文献

Fisher's A statistic, often called the adjusted R2 statistic, is shown to be a close approximation to the maximum likelihood estimate of the multiple correlation coefficient, p2, based on the marginal distribution of R2. Expansions for the estimate are obtained. The same methods lead to maximum marginal likelihood estimators for the noncentrality parameters for noncentral X2 and F.  相似文献

By means of a search design one is able to search for and estimate a small set of non‐zero elements from the set of higher order factorial interactions in addition to estimating the lower order factorial effects. One may be interested in estimating the general mean and main effects, in addition to searching for and estimating a non‐negligible effect in the set of 2‐ and 3‐factor interactions, assuming 4‐ and higher‐order interactions are all zero. Such a search design is called a ‘main effect plus one plan’ and is denoted by MEP.1. Construction of such a plan, for 2m factorial experiments, has been considered and developed by several authors and leads to MEP.1 plans for an odd number m of factors. These designs are generally determined by two arrays, one specifying a main effect plan and the other specifying a follow‐up. In this paper we develop the construction of search designs for an even number of factors m, m≠6. The new series of MEP.1 plans is a set of single array designs with a well structured form. Such a structure allows for flexibility in arriving at an appropriate design with optimum properties for search and estimation.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider experimental situations in which a regular fractional factorial design is to be used to study the effects of m two-level factors using n=2mk experimental units arranged in 2p blocks of size 2mkp. In such situations, two-factor interactions are often confounded with blocks and complete information is lost on these two-factor interactions. Here we consider the use of the foldover technique in conjunction with combining designs having different blocking schemes to produce alternative partially confounded blocked fractional factorial designs that have more estimable two-factor interactions or a higher estimation capacity or both than their traditional counterparts.  相似文献

Abstract. A common practice in obtaining an efficient semiparametric estimate is through iteratively maximizing the (penalized) full log‐likelihood w.r.t. its Euclidean parameter and functional nuisance parameter. A rigorous theoretical study of this semiparametric iterative estimation approach is the main purpose of this study. We first show that the grid search algorithm produces an initial estimate with the proper convergence rate. Our second contribution is to provide a formula in calculating the minimal number of iterations k * needed to produce an efficient estimate . We discover that (i) k * depends on the convergence rates of the initial estimate and the nuisance functional estimate, and (ii) k * iterations are also sufficient for recovering the estimation sparsity in high dimensional data. The last contribution is the novel construction of which does not require knowing the explicit expression of the efficient score function. The above general conclusions apply to semiparametric models estimated under various regularizations, for example, kernel or penalized estimation. As far as we are aware, this study provides a first general theoretical justification for the ‘one‐/two‐step iteration’ phenomena observed in the semiparametric literature.  相似文献

A two-step estimation approach is proposed for the fixed-effect parameters, random effects and their variance σ2 of a Poisson mixed model. In the first step, it is proposed to construct a small σ2-based approximate likelihood function of the data and utilize this function to estimate the fixed-effect parameters and σ2. In the second step, the random effects are estimated by minimizing their posterior mean squared error. Methods of Waclawiw and Liang (1993) based on so-called Stein-type estimating functions and of Breslow and Clayton (1993) based on penalized quasilikelihood are compared with the proposed likelihood method. The results of a simulation study on the performance of all three approaches are reported.  相似文献
