ABSTRACT

As a compromise between parametric regression and non-parametric regression models, partially linear models are frequently used in statistical modelling. This paper is concerned with the estimation of partially linear regression model in the presence of multicollinearity. Based on the profile least-squares approach, we propose a novel principal components regression (PCR) estimator for the parametric component. When some additional linear restrictions on the parametric component are available, we construct a corresponding restricted PCR estimator. Some simulations are conducted to examine the performance of our proposed estimators and the results are satisfactory. Finally, a real data example is analysed.  相似文献

As a useful extension of partially linear models and varying coefficient models, the partially linear varying coefficient model is useful in statistical modelling. This paper considers statistical inference for the semiparametric model when the covariates in the linear part are measured with additive error and some additional linear restrictions on the parametric component are available. We propose a restricted modified profile least-squares estimator for the parametric component, and prove the asymptotic normality of the proposed estimator. To test hypotheses on the parametric component, we propose a test statistic based on the difference between the corrected residual sums of squares under the null and alterative hypotheses, and show that its limiting distribution is a weighted sum of independent chi-square distributions. We also develop an adjusted test statistic, which has an asymptotically standard chi-squared distribution. Some simulation studies are conducted to illustrate our approaches.  相似文献

Consider the problem of covariance analysis based on regression models whose regression function is the sum of a linear and a non-parametric component. We propose a parametric and a non-parametric statistical test to compare the effects of the linear and non-parametric components, respectively, on the response variable in   L ≥ 2  groups. Serially correlated errors within each group are allowed. The first (second) test compares the differences between the estimates of the parametric (non-parametric) components of each group by means of a Mahalanobis  ( L 2)  distance. The asymptotic distribution of each statistic under the null hypothesis is obtained. A modest simulation study and an application to a real data set illustrate our methodology.  相似文献

This article considers statistical inference for partially linear varying-coefficient models when the responses are missing at random. We propose a profile least-squares estimator for the parametric component with complete-case data and show that the resulting estimator is asymptotically normal. To avoid to estimate the asymptotic covariance in establishing confidence region of the parametric component with the normal-approximation method, we define an empirical likelihood based statistic and show that its limiting distribution is chi-squared distribution. Then, the confidence regions of the parametric component with asymptotically correct coverage probabilities can be constructed by the result. To check the validity of the linear constraints on the parametric component, we construct a modified generalized likelihood ratio test statistic and demonstrate that it follows asymptotically chi-squared distribution under the null hypothesis. Then, we extend the generalized likelihood ratio technique to the context of missing data. Finally, some simulations are conducted to illustrate the proposed methods.  相似文献

Partially linear additive model is useful in statistical modelling as a multivariate nonparametric fitting technique. This paper considers statistical inference for the semiparametric model in the presence of multicollinearity. Based on the profile least-squares (PL) approach and Liu estimation method, we propose a PL Liu estimator for the parametric component. When some additional linear restrictions on the parametric component are available, the corresponding restricted Liu estimator for the parametric component is constructed. The properties of the proposed estimators are derived. Some simulations are conducted to assess the performance of the proposed procedures and the results are satisfactory. Finally, a real data example is analysed.  相似文献

Abstract. The partially linear in‐slide model (PLIM) is a useful tool to make econometric analyses and to normalize microarray data. In this article, by using series approximations and a least squares procedure, we propose a semiparametric least squares estimator (SLSE) for the parametric component and a series estimator for the non‐parametric component. Under weaker conditions than those imposed in the literature, we show that the SLSE is asymptotically normal and that the series estimator attains the optimal convergence rate of non‐parametric regression. We also investigate the estimating problem of the error variance. In addition, we propose a wild block bootstrap‐based test for the form of the non‐parametric component. Some simulation studies are conducted to illustrate the finite sample performance of the proposed procedure. An example of application on a set of economical data is also illustrated.  相似文献

In partially linear single-index models, we obtain the semiparametrically efficient profile least-squares estimators of regression coefficients. We also employ the smoothly clipped absolute deviation penalty (SCAD) approach to simultaneously select variables and estimate regression coefficients. We show that the resulting SCAD estimators are consistent and possess the oracle property. Subsequently, we demonstrate that a proposed tuning parameter selector, BIC, identifies the true model consistently. Finally, we develop a linear hypothesis test for the parametric coefficients and a goodness-of-fit test for the nonparametric component, respectively. Monte Carlo studies are also presented.  相似文献

The authors consider a semiparametric partially linear regression model with serially correlated errors. They propose a new way of estimating the error structure which has the advantage that it does not involve any nonparametric estimation. This allows them to develop an inference procedure consisting of a bandwidth selection method, an efficient semiparametric generalized least squares estimator of the parametric component, a goodness‐of‐fit test based on the bootstrap, and a technique for selecting significant covariates in the parametric component. They assess their approach through simulation studies and illustrate it with a concrete application.  相似文献

It has been found that, for a variety of probability distributions, there is a surprising linear relation between mode, mean, and median. In this article, the relation between mode, mean, and median regression functions is assumed to follow a simple parametric model. We propose a semiparametric conditional mode (mode regression) estimation for an unknown (unimodal) conditional distribution function in the context of regression model, so that any m-step-ahead mean and median forecasts can then be substituted into the resultant model to deliver m-step-ahead mode prediction. In the semiparametric model, Least Squared Estimator (LSEs) for the model parameters and the simultaneous estimation of the unknown mean and median regression functions by the local linear kernel method are combined to infer about the parametric and nonparametric components of the proposed model. The asymptotic normality of these estimators is derived, and the asymptotic distribution of the parameter estimates is also given and is shown to follow usual parametric rates in spite of the presence of the nonparametric component in the model. These results are applied to obtain a data-based test for the dependence of mode regression over mean and median regression under a regression model.  相似文献

A statistical test procedure is proposed to check whether the parameters in the parametric component of the partially linear spatial autoregressive models satisfy certain linear constraint conditions, in which a residual-based bootstrap procedure is suggested to derive the p-value of the test. Some simulations are conducted to assess the performance of the test and the results show that the bootstrap approximation to the null distribution of the test statistic is valid and the test is of satisfactory power. Furthermore, a real-world example is given to demonstrate the application of the proposed test.  相似文献

This paper considers statistical inference for the partially linear additive models, which are useful extensions of additive models and partially linear models. We focus on the case where some covariates are measured with additive errors, and the response variable is sometimes missing. We propose a profile least-squares estimator for the parametric component and show that the resulting estimator is asymptotically normal. To construct a confidence region for the parametric component, we also propose an empirical-likelihood-based statistic, which is shown to have a chi-squared distribution asymptotically. Furthermore, a simulation study is conducted to illustrate the performance of the proposed methods.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article, we consider a panel data partially linear regression model with fixed effect and non parametric time trend function. The data can be dependent cross individuals through linear regressor and error components. Unlike the methods using non parametric smoothing technique, a difference-based method is proposed to estimate linear regression coefficients of the model to avoid bandwidth selection. Here the difference technique is employed to eliminate the non parametric function effect, not the fixed effects, on linear regressor coefficient estimation totally. Therefore, a more efficient estimator for parametric part is anticipated, which is shown to be true by the simulation results. For the non parametric component, the polynomial spline technique is implemented. The asymptotic properties of estimators for parametric and non parametric parts are presented. We also show how to select informative ones from a number of covariates in the linear part by using smoothly clipped absolute deviation-penalized estimators on a difference-based least-squares objective function, and the resulting estimators perform asymptotically as well as the oracle procedure in terms of selecting the correct model.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this study, Monte Carlo simulation experiments were employed to examine the performance of four statistical two-group classification methods when the data distributions are skewed and misclassification costs are unequal, conditions frequently encountered in business and economic applications. The classification methods studied are linear and quadratic parametric, nearest neighbor and logistic regression methods. It was found that when skewness is moderate, the parametric methods tend to give best results. Depending on the specific data condition, when skewness is high, either the linear parametric, logistic regression, or the nearest-neighbor method gives the best results. When misclassification costs differ widely across groups, the linear parametric method is favored over the other methods for many of the data conditions studied.  相似文献

A partially linear model is a semiparametric regression model that consists of parametric and nonparametric regression components in an additive form. In this article, we propose a partially linear model using a Gaussian process regression approach and consider statistical inference of the proposed model. Based on the proposed model, the estimation procedure is described by posterior distributions of the unknown parameters and model comparisons between parametric representation and semi- and nonparametric representation are explored. Empirical analysis of the proposed model is performed with synthetic data and real data applications.  相似文献

In this article, the two-way error component regression model is considered. For the nonhomogenous linear hypothesis testing of regression coefficients, a parametric bootstrap (PB) approach is proposed. Simulation results indicate that the PB test, regardless of the sample sizes, maintains the Type I error rates very well and outperforms the existing generalized variable test, which may far exceed the intended significance level when the sample sizes are small or moderate. Real data examples illustrate the proposed approach work quite satisfactorily.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate several tests for the hypothesis of a parametric form of the error distribution in the common linear and non‐parametric regression model, which are based on empirical processes of residuals. It is well known that tests in this context are not asymptotically distribution‐free and the parametric bootstrap is applied to deal with this problem. The performance of the resulting bootstrap test is investigated from an asymptotic point of view and by means of a simulation study. The results demonstrate that even for moderate sample sizes the parametric bootstrap provides a reliable and easy accessible solution to the problem of goodness‐of‐fit testing of assumptions regarding the error distribution in linear and non‐parametric regression models.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider improved estimating equations for semiparametric partial linear models (PLM) for longitudinal data, or clustered data in general. We approximate the non‐parametric function in the PLM by a regression spline, and utilize quadratic inference functions (QIF) in the estimating equations to achieve a more efficient estimation of the parametric part in the model, even when the correlation structure is misspecified. Moreover, we construct a test which is an analogue to the likelihood ratio inference function for inferring the parametric component in the model. The proposed methods perform well in simulation studies and real data analysis conducted in this paper.  相似文献

In this paper we study a class of multivariate partially linear regression models. Various estimators for the parametric component and the nonparametric component are constructed and their asymptotic normality established. In particular, we propose an estimator of the contemporaneous correlation among the multiple responses and develop a test for detecting the existence of such contemporaneous correlation without using any nonparametric estimation. The performance of the proposed estimators and test is evaluated through some simulation studies and an analysis of a real data set is used to illustrate the developed methodology. This paper presents a goodness‐of‐fit test for parametric regression models with scalar response and directional predictor, that is, a vector on a sphere of arbitrary dimension. The testing procedure is based on the weighted squared distance between a smooth and a parametric regression estimator, where the smooth regression estimator is obtained by a projected local approach. Asymptotic behaviour of the test statistic under the null hypothesis and local alternatives is provided, jointly with a consistent bootstrap algorithm for application in practice. A simulation study illustrates the performance of the test in finite samples. The procedure is applied to test a linear model in text mining.  相似文献

In this paper, a test is derived to assess the validity of heteroscedastic nonlinear regression models by a non‐parametric cosine regression method. For order selection, the paper proposes a data‐driven method that uses the parametric null model optimal order. This method yields a test that is asymptotically normally distributed under the null hypothesis and is consistent against any fixed alternative. Simulation studies that test the lack of fit of a generalized linear model are conducted to compare the performance of the proposed test with that of an existing non‐parametric kernel test. A dataset of esterase levels is used to demonstrate the proposed method in practice.  相似文献
