This article suggests the class of estimators of population mean of study variable using various parameters related to an auxiliary variable with its properties in simple random sampling. It has been identified that the some existing estimator/classes of estimators are members of suggested class. Abstract

We suggested the class of estimators of the population mean with its bias and mean square error. It has been shown that the suggested class is more efficient than the usual unbiased, ratio, product and regression estimators and estimators due to Bahl and Tuteja (1991), Singh et al. (2009), and Upadhyaya et al. (2011). In addition an empirical study also carried out to and founded that the members of suggested family also have improvement over Grover and Kaur (2011) and Shabbir and Gupta (2011) classes. Two-phase (double) sampling version of the proposed class was also given.  相似文献

The properties of the suggested class of estimators have been studied under large sample approximation. The general results are then applied to estimate the population coefficient of variation of study variable using auxiliary information. In the present article, we have proposed some classes of estimators based on transformed auxiliary variable. The biases and mean squared errors (MSEs) of the proposed estimators have been obtained. The proposed estimators have been compared with simple mean estimator when there is no matching and the optimum estimator, which is a combination of the means of the matched and unmatched portion of the sample at the second occasion. Optimum replacement policy and the efficiency of the proposed estimators have been discussed. Theoretical results are well supported with an empirical study.  相似文献

In this paper, an attempt has been made to present some efficient classes of estimators of population mean on current occasion in two-occasion successive sampling under random non response in two-phase setup. Effectiveness of the proposed classes of estimators has been studied under the assumptions that sampling units follow a distribution under the random non response. To check the performances, the proposed classes of estimators are compared with an estimator under the similar situation under the complete response. Results are demonstrated through empirical studies which show the reliable nature of the proposed classes of estimators. Suitable recommendations have been made to the survey practitioners.  相似文献

This paper defines a general procedure for estimating the population mean of the study variate based on double sampling for stratification in presence of multi-auxiliary information. Classes of combined and separate estimators have been suggested and their properties are studied under large sample approximation. A class of unstratified double sampling estimators is also proposed with its properties. Asymptotic optimum estimators in the classes are identified with their approximate variance formulae. Further the proposed classes of estimators are compared with the corresponding class of estimators based on un-stratified double sampling. All findings are encouraging and support the soundness of the proposed procedure for mean estimation.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of estimating the population variance S2y of the study variable y using auxiliary information in sample surveys. We have suggested a class of estimators of the population variance S2y of the study variable y when the population variance S2x of the auxiliary variable x is known. Asymptotic expressions of bias and mean squared error (MSE) of the proposed class of estimators have been obtained. Asymptotic optimum estimators in the proposed class of estimators have also been identified along with its MSE formula. A comparison has been provided. We have further provided the double sampling version of the proposed class of estimators. The properties of the double sampling version have been provided under large sample approximation. The present investigation addresses the problem of estimating a finite population mean in two-phase cluster sampling in presence of random non response situations. Utilizing information on an auxiliary variable, regression type estimators has been proposed. Effective imputation techniques have been suggested to deal with the random non response situations. The properties of the proposed estimation strategies have been studied for different cases of random non response situations in practical surveys. The superiority of the suggested methodology over the natural sample mean estimator of population mean has been established through empirical studies carried over the data sets of natural population and artificially generated population.  相似文献

The present investigation deals with the problem of estimation of population mean in two-phase sampling. In the presence of two auxiliary variables, some classes of estimators have been proposed through predictive approach. Properties of the proposed classes of estimators have been studied, and the unbiased versions of these estimators along with their approximate variance expressions are obtained under simple random sampling without replacement scheme. The respective optimum strategies of the proposed estimators are discussed, and their empirical and graphical comparisons with some contemporary estimators of population mean have been made. This paper considers the problem of estimating the population mean using information on an auxiliary variable in presence of non-response. Some modified ratio, product and regression estimators in double sampling have been suggested and their properties are studied. It is shown that to the first degree of approximation, estimators based on estimated optimum values have the same variance as that of the optimum estimators. An empirical study is carried to judge the merits of the suggested estimators over conventional unbiased estimator and other known estimators. To deal with the problems of non-response, one-parameter classes of imputation techniques have been suggested and their corresponding point estimators have been proposed. The proposed classes of estimators include several other estimators as a particular case for different values of the parameter. Since the seminal paper of Granger & Joyeux (1980), the concept of a long memory has focused the attention of many statisticians and econometricians trying to model and measure the persistence of stationary processes. Many methods for estimating d, the long-range dependence parameter, have been suggested since the work of Hurst (1951). They can be summarized in three classes: the heuristic methods, the semi-parametric methods and the maximum likelihood methods. In this paper, we try by simulation, to verify the two main properties of [dcirc]: the consistency and the asymptotic normality. Hence, it is very important for practitioners to compare the performance of the various classes of estimators. The results indicate that only the semi-parametric and the maximum likelihood methods can give good estimators. They also suggest that the AR component of the ARFIMA (1, d, 0) process has an important impact on the properties of the different estimators and that the Whittle method is the best one, since it has the small mean squared error. We finally carry out an empirical application using the monthly seasonally adjusted US Inflation series, in order to illustrate the usefulness of the different estimation methods in the context of using real data.  相似文献

This article addresses the problem of estimating the population mean in stratified random sampling using the information of an auxiliary variable. A class of estimators for population mean is defined with its properties under large sample approximation. In particular, various classes of estimators are identified as particular member of the suggested class. Using the known coefficient of variation of the study character, generalized and regression-type estimators for the population mean using two phase sampling in the presence of non response were proposed and their properties have been studied. The conditions under which the proposed estimators are more efficient than the relevant estimators have been obtained. The empirical studies were given in the support of the problems in the case of positive and negative correlation between the study and the auxiliary characters which show the increase in the efficiency of the proposed estimators using known coefficient of variation of the study character with respect to the relevant estimators.  相似文献

In this paper, we have considered an estimation of the population total Y of the study variable y, making use of information on an auxiliary variable x. A class of estimators for the population total Y using transformation on both the variables study as well as auxiliary has been suggested based on the probability proportional to size with replacement (PPSWR). In addition to many the usual PPS estimator, Reddy and Rao's (1977) estimator and Srivenkataramana and Tracy's (1979, 1984, 1986) estimators are shown to be members of the proposed class of estimators. The variance of the proposed class of estimators has been obtained. In particular, the properties of 75 estimators based on different known population parameters of the study as well as auxiliary variables have been derived from the proposed class of estimators. This paper considers the problem of estimating the population variance S2y of the study variable y using the auxiliary information in sample surveys. We have suggested the (i) chain ratio-type estimator (on the lines of Kadilar and Cingi (2003)), (ii) chain ratio-ratio-type exponential estimator and their generalized version [on the lines of Singh and Pal (2015)] and studied their properties under large sample approximation. Conditions are obtained under which the proposed estimators are more efficient than usual unbiased estimator s2y and Isaki (1893) ratio estimator. This article is an attempt to explore some effective rotation patterns in estimation of current population mean in two occasions successive sampling. Utilizing the readily available information on an auxiliary variable on both occasions and the information on study variable from the previous occasion, some efficient estimation procedures have been suggested.
