Gupta and Kundu (Statistics 43:621–643, 2009) recently introduced a new class of weighted exponential distribution. It is observed that the proposed weighted exponential distribution is very flexible and can be used quite effectively to analyze skewed data. In this paper we propose a new bivariate distribution with the weighted exponential marginals. Different properties of this new bivariate distribution have been investigated. This new family has three unknown parameters, and it is observed that the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters can be obtained by solving a one-dimensional optimization procedure. We obtain the asymptotic distribution of the maximum likelihood estimators. Small simulation experiments have been performed to see the behavior of the maximum likelihood estimators, and one data analysis has been presented for illustrative purposes. Finally we discuss the multivariate generalization of the proposed model.  相似文献

In this paper, we develop a bivariate discrete generalized exponential distribution, whose marginals are discrete generalized exponential distribution as proposed by Nekoukhou, Alamatsaz and Bidram [Discrete generalized exponential distribution of a second type. Statistics. 2013;47:876–887]. It is observed that the proposed bivariate distribution is a very flexible distribution and the bivariate geometric distribution can be obtained as a special case of this distribution. The proposed distribution can be seen as a natural discrete analogue of the bivariate generalized exponential distribution proposed by Kundu and Gupta [Bivariate generalized exponential distribution. J Multivariate Anal. 2009;100:581–593]. We study different properties of this distribution and explore its dependence structures. We propose a new EM algorithm to compute the maximum-likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters which can be implemented very efficiently, and discuss some inferential issues also. The analysis of one data set has been performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed model. Finally, we propose some open problems and conclude the paper.  相似文献

Recently, Gupta and Kundu [R.D. Gupta and D. Kundu, A new class of weighted exponential distributions, Statistics 43 (2009), pp. 621–634] have introduced a new class of weighted exponential (WE) distributions, and this can be used quite effectively to model lifetime data. In this paper, we introduce a new class of weighted Marshall–Olkin bivariate exponential distributions. This new singular distribution has univariate WE marginals. We study different properties of the proposed model. There are four parameters in this model and the maximum-likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the unknown parameters cannot be obtained in explicit forms. We need to solve a four-dimensional optimization problem to compute the MLEs. One data set has been analysed for illustrative purposes and finally we propose some generalization of the proposed model.  相似文献

Generalized exponential distribution has been used quite effectively to model positively skewed lifetime data as an alternative to the well known Weibull or gamma distributions. In this paper we introduce an absolute continuous bivariate generalized exponential distribution by using a simple transformation from a well known bivariate exchangeable distribution. The marginal distributions of the proposed bivariate generalized exponential distributions are generalized exponential distributions. The joint probability density function and the joint cumulative distribution function can be expressed in closed forms. It is observed that the proposed bivariate distribution can be obtained using Clayton copula with generalized exponential distribution as marginals. We derive different properties of this new distribution. It is a five-parameter distribution, and the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters cannot be obtained in closed forms. We propose some alternative estimators, which can be obtained quite easily, and they can be used as initial guesses to compute the maximum likelihood estimates. One data set has been analyzed for illustrative purposes. Finally we propose some generalization of the proposed model.  相似文献

The generalized exponential is the most commonly used distribution for analyzing lifetime data. This distribution has several desirable properties and it can be used quite effectively to analyse several skewed life time data. The main aim of this paper is to introduce absolutely continuous bivariate generalized exponential distribution using the method of Block and Basu (1974). In fact, the Block and Basu exponential distribution will be extended to the generalized exponential distribution. We call the new proposed model as the Block and Basu bivariate generalized exponential distribution, then, discuss its different properties. In this case the joint probability distribution function and the joint cumulative distribution function can be expressed in compact forms. The model has four unknown parameters and the maximum likelihood estimators cannot be obtained in explicit form. To compute the maximum likelihood estimators directly, one needs to solve a four dimensional optimization problem. The EM algorithm has been proposed to compute the maximum likelihood estimations of the unknown parameters. One data analysis is provided for illustrative purposes. Finally, we propose some generalizations of the proposed model and compare their models with each other.  相似文献

In this paper we have considered concomitants of order statistics arising from Morgenstern type bivariate exponential distribution and their applications in estimating the unknown parameter involved in the distribution. We have obtained the best linear unbiased estimator of a parameter involved in Morgenstern type bivariate exponential distribution using both complete and censored samples.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper considers a class of absolutely continuous bivariate exponential distributions whose univariate margins are the ordinary exponential distributions. We study different mathematical properties of the proposed model. The estimation of the parameters by maximum likelihood is discussed. Application is made to a real data example to illustrate the flexibility of theproposed distribution for data analysis.  相似文献

This paper introduces a new bivariate exponential distribution, called the Bivariate Affine-Linear Exponential distribution, to model moderately negative dependent data. The construction and characteristics of the proposed bivariate distribution are presented along with estimation procedures for the model parameters based on maximum likelihood and objective Bayesian analysis. We derive Jeffreys prior and discuss its frequentist properties based on a simulation study and MCMC sampling techniques. A real data set of mercury concentration in largemouth bass from Florida lakes is used to illustrate the methodology.  相似文献

In this work we derive closed form expressions for the probability density functions and moments of the quotient and product of the components of the bivariate generalized exponential distribution introduced by Kundu and Gupta (J Multivariate Anal, 100:581–593, 2009) and compute the percentage points. The derivations will be useful for practitioners of this bivariate model. We then give a real data application of the product.  相似文献

We develop a simple approach to finding the Fisher information matrix (FIM) for a single pair of order statistic and its concomitant, and Type II right, left, and doubly censored samples from an arbitrary bivariate distribution. We use it to determine explicit expressions for the FIM for the three parameters of Downton's bivariate exponential distribution for single pairs and Type II censored samples. We evaluate the FIM in censored samples for finite sample sizes and determine its limiting form as the sample size increases. We discuss implications of our findings to inference and experimental design using small and large censored samples and for ranked-set samples from this distribution.  相似文献

The exact distribution of the maximum likelihood estimators in an exponential regression model are derived. The approach involves finding the distribution of the score statistic, since the log likelihood is globally concave, and then using the one-to-one correspondence between this and the estimator. The distribution is a weighted sum of independent exponential random variables. The exact p.d.f. is found by inverting the characteristic function by a straightforward application of residue theory.  相似文献

The exponential distribution is characterized by means of the distribution of a weighted sum of independent, identically distributed random variables. The conditions considered turn out to be sufficient in the case of two random variables only.  相似文献

Epstein [Truncated life tests in the exponential case, Ann. Math. Statist. 25 (1954), pp. 555–564] introduced a hybrid censoring scheme (called Type-I hybrid censoring) and Chen and Bhattacharyya [Exact confidence bounds for an exponential parameter under hybrid censoring, Comm. Statist. Theory Methods 17 (1988), pp. 1857–1870] derived the exact distribution of the maximum-likelihood estimator (MLE) of the mean of a scaled exponential distribution based on a Type-I hybrid censored sample. Childs et al. [Exact likelihood inference based on Type-I and Type-II hybrid censored samples from the exponential distribution, Ann. Inst. Statist. Math. 55 (2003), pp. 319–330] provided an alternate simpler expression for this distribution, and also developed analogous results for another hybrid censoring scheme (called Type-II hybrid censoring). The purpose of this paper is to derive the exact bivariate distribution of the MLE of the parameter vector of a two-parameter exponential model based on hybrid censored samples. The marginal distributions are derived and exact confidence bounds for the parameters are obtained. The results are also used to derive the exact distribution of the MLE of the pth quantile, as well as the corresponding confidence bounds. These exact confidence intervals are then compared with parametric bootstrap confidence intervals in terms of coverage probabilities. Finally, we present some numerical examples to illustrate the methods of inference developed here.  相似文献

Gupta and Kundu proposed a new class of weighted exponential distributions using the idea of Azzalini. In this article, we develop an acceptance sampling plan for the weighted exponential distribution under a truncated life test. For various acceptance numbers, consumer’s confidence levels and values of the ratio of the experimental time to the specified mean lifetime, the minimum sample size necessary to ensure a certain mean lifetime are obtained. The operating characteristic function values and the associated producer’s risks are also presented. A numerical example is provided to illustrate the acceptance sampling plan.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the four-parameter bivariate generalized exponential distribution proposed by Kundu and Gupta [Bivariate generalized exponential distribution, J. Multivariate Anal. 100 (2009), pp. 581–593] and propose an expectation–maximization algorithm to find the maximum-likelihood estimators of the four parameters under random left censoring. A numerical experiment is carried out to discuss the properties of the estimators obtained iteratively.  相似文献

We study the joint distribution of X and N, where N has a geometric distribution and X is the sum of N i.i.d. exponential variables, independent of N. We present basic properties of this class of mixed bivariate distributions, and discuss their possible applications. Our results include marginal and conditional distributions, joint integral transforms, infinite divisibility, and stability with respect to geometric summation. We also discuss maximum likelihood estimation connected with this distribution. An example from finance, where N represents the number of consecutive positive daily log-returns of currency exchange rates, illustrates the modeling potential of these laws.  相似文献

A new distribution called the beta generalized exponential distribution is proposed. It includes the beta exponential and generalized exponential (GE) distributions as special cases. We provide a comprehensive mathematical treatment of this distribution. The density function can be expressed as a mixture of generalized exponential densities. This is important to obtain some mathematical properties of the new distribution in terms of the corresponding properties of the GE distribution. We derive the moment generating function (mgf) and the moments, thus generalizing some results in the literature. Expressions for the density, mgf and moments of the order statistics are also obtained. We discuss estimation of the parameters by maximum likelihood and obtain the information matrix that is easily numerically determined. We observe in one application to a real skewed data set that this model is quite flexible and can be used effectively in analyzing positive data in place of the beta exponential and GE distributions.  相似文献

In this paper, form-invariant weighted distributions are considered in an exponential family. The class of bivariate distribution with invariant property is identified under exponential weight function. The class includes some of the custom bivariate models. The form-invariant multivariate normal distributions are obtained under a quadratic weight function.  相似文献

Summary In this paper, we present a Bayesian analysis of the bivariate exponential distribution of Block and Basu (1974) assuming different prior densities for the parameters of the model and considering Laplace's method to obtain approximate marginal posterior and posterior moments of interest. We also find approximate Bayes estimators for the reliability of two-component systems at a specified timet 0 considering series and parallel systems. We illustrate the proposed methodology with a generated data set.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss a Bayesian estimation procedure for the parameters in a Moran–Downton bivariate exponential distribution based on complete and censored samples. A Markov-chain Monte Carlo method is used to obtain the Bayes estimates of the parameters. An intensive simulation experiment is conducted to study the performance of the proposed Bayesian estimation procedure. Discussions and suggestions are provided based on the simulation results. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the Bayesian estimation procedure developed here and some concluding remarks are provided.  相似文献
