Using the data from the AIDS Link to Intravenous Experiences cohort study as an example, an informative censoring model was used to characterize the repeated hospitalization process of a group of patients. Under the informative censoring assumption, the estimators of the baseline rate function and the regression parameters were shown to be related to a latent variable. Hence, it becomes impractical to directly estimate the unknown quantities in the moments of the estimators for the bandwidth selection of a smoothing estimator and the construction of confidence intervals, which are respectively based on the asymptotic mean squared errors and the asymptotic distributions of the estimators. To overcome these difficulties, we develop a random weighted bootstrap procedure to select appropriate bandwidths and to construct approximated confidence intervals. One can see that our method is simple and faster to implement from a practical point of view, and is at least as accurate as other bootstrap methods. In this article, it is shown that the proposed method is useful through the performance of a Monte Carlo simulation. An application of our procedure is also illustrated by a recurrent event sample of intravenous drug users for inpatient cares over time.  相似文献

In biomedical studies where the event of interest is recurrent (e.g., hospitalization), it is often the case that the recurrent event sequence is subject to being stopped by a terminating event (e.g., death). In comparing treatment options, the marginal recurrent event mean is frequently of interest. One major complication in the recurrent/terminal event setting is that censoring times are not known for subjects observed to die, which renders standard risk set based methods of estimation inapplicable. We propose two semiparametric methods for estimating the difference or ratio of treatment-specific marginal mean numbers of events. The first method involves imputing unobserved censoring times, while the second methods uses inverse probability of censoring weighting. In each case, imbalances in the treatment-specific covariate distributions are adjusted out through inverse probability of treatment weighting. After the imputation and/or weighting, the treatment-specific means (then their difference or ratio) are estimated nonparametrically. Large-sample properties are derived for each of the proposed estimators, with finite sample properties assessed through simulation. The proposed methods are applied to kidney transplant data.  相似文献

The recurrent-event setting, where the subjects experience multiple occurrences of the event of interest, are encountered in many biomedical applications. In analyzing recurrent event data, non informative censoring is often assumed for the implementation of statistical methods. However, when a terminating event such as death serves as part of the censoring mechanism, validity of the censoring assumption may be violated because recurrence can be a powerful risk factor for death. We consider joint modeling of recurrent event process and terminating event under a Bayesian framework in which a shared frailty is used to model the association between the intensity of the recurrent event process and the hazard of the terminating event. Our proposed model is implemented on data from a well-known cancer study.  相似文献

This article considers the adaptive lasso procedure for the accelerated failure time model with multiple covariates based on weighted least squares method, which uses Kaplan-Meier weights to account for censoring. The adaptive lasso method can complete the variable selection and model estimation simultaneously. Under some mild conditions, the estimator is shown to have sparse and oracle properties. We use Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) for tuning parameter selection, and a bootstrap variance approach for standard error. Simulation studies and two real data examples are carried out to investigate the performance of the proposed method.  相似文献

In this paper, we extend the varying coefficient partially linear model to the varying coefficient partially nonlinear model in which the linear part of the varying coefficient partially linear model is replaced by a nonlinear function of the covariates. A profile nonlinear least squares estimation procedure for the parameter vector and the coefficient function vector of the varying coefficient partially nonlinear model is proposed and the asymptotic properties of the resulting estimators are established. We further propose a generalized likelihood ratio (GLR) test to check whether or not the varying coefficients in the model are constant. The asymptotic null distribution of the GLR statistic is derived and a residual-based bootstrap procedure is also suggested to derive the p-value of the GLR test. Some simulations are conducted to assess the performance of the proposed estimating and testing procedures and the results show that both the procedures perform well in finite samples. Furthermore, a real data example is given to demonstrate the application of the proposed model and its estimating and testing procedures.  相似文献

Recently, exact inference under hybrid censoring scheme has attracted extensive attention in the field of reliability analysis. However, most of the authors neglect the possibility of competing risks model. This paper mainly discusses the exact likelihood inference for the analysis of generalized type-I hybrid censoring data with exponential competing failure model. Based on the maximum likelihood estimates for unknown parameters, we establish the exact conditional distribution of parameters by conditional moment generating function, and then obtain moment properties as well as exact confidence intervals (CIs) for parameters. Furthermore, approximate CIs are constructed by asymptotic distribution and bootstrap method as well. We also compare their performances with exact method through the use of Monte Carlo simulations. And finally, a real data set is analysed to illustrate the validity of all the methods developed here.  相似文献

The hazard function plays an important role in reliability or survival studies since it describes the instantaneous risk of failure of items at a time point, given that they have not failed before. In some real life applications, abrupt changes in the hazard function are observed due to overhauls, major operations or specific maintenance activities. In such situations it is of interest to detect the location where such a change occurs and estimate the size of the change. In this paper we consider the problem of estimating a single change point in a piecewise constant hazard function when the observed variables are subject to random censoring. We suggest an estimation procedure that is based on certain structural properties and on least squares ideas. A simulation study is carried out to compare the performance of this estimator with two estimators available in the literature: an estimator based on a functional of the Nelson-Aalen estimator and a maximum likelihood estimator. The proposed least squares estimator tums out to be less biased than the other two estimators, but has a larger variance. We illustrate the estimation method on some real data sets.  相似文献

Subgroup detection has received increasing attention recently in different fields such as clinical trials, public management and market segmentation analysis. In these fields, people often face time‐to‐event data, which are commonly subject to right censoring. This paper proposes a semiparametric Logistic‐Cox mixture model for subgroup analysis when the interested outcome is event time with right censoring. The proposed method mainly consists of a likelihood ratio‐based testing procedure for testing the existence of subgroups. The expectation–maximization iteration is applied to improve the testing power, and a model‐based bootstrap approach is developed to implement the testing procedure. When there exist subgroups, one can also use the proposed model to estimate the subgroup effect and construct predictive scores for the subgroup membership. The large sample properties of the proposed method are studied. The finite sample performance of the proposed method is assessed by simulation studies. A real data example is also provided for illustration.  相似文献

Recurrent events are frequently encountered in biomedical studies. Evaluating the covariates effects on the marginal recurrent event rate is of practical interest. There are mainly two types of rate models for the recurrent event data: the multiplicative rates model and the additive rates model. We consider a more flexible additive–multiplicative rates model for analysis of recurrent event data, wherein some covariate effects are additive while others are multiplicative. We formulate estimating equations for estimating the regression parameters. The estimators for these regression parameters are shown to be consistent and asymptotically normally distributed under appropriate regularity conditions. Moreover, the estimator of the baseline mean function is proposed and its large sample properties are investigated. We also conduct simulation studies to evaluate the finite sample behavior of the proposed estimators. A medical study of patients with cystic fibrosis suffered from recurrent pulmonary exacerbations is provided for illustration of the proposed method.  相似文献

Four procedures are suggested for estimating the parameter ‘a’ in the Pauling equation:

The procedures are: using the mean of individual solutions, least squares with Y the subject of the equation, least squares with X the subject of the equation and maximum likelihood using a statistical model. In order to compare these estimates, we use Efron's bootstrap technique (1979), since distributional results are not available. Alternative methods of estimating properties of unknown distributions include the bootstrap and the smoothed bootstrap. In the standard bootstrap setting, Johns (1988) introduced an importance resam¬pling procedure that results in more accurate approximation to the bootstrap estimate of a distribution function or a quantile. With a suitable “exponential tilting” similar to that used by Johns, we derived a smoothed version of importance resampling in the framework of the smoothed bootstrap. Smoothed importance resampling procedures were developed for the estimation of distribution functions of the Studentized mean, the Studentized variance, and the correlation coefficient. Implementation of these procedures are presented via simulation results which concentrate on the problem of estimation of distribution functions of the Studentized mean and Studentized variance for different sample sizes and various pre-specified smoothing bandwidths for the normal data; additional simulations were conducted for the estimation of quantiles of the distribution of the Studentized mean under an optimal smoothing bandwidth when the original data were simulated from three different parent populations: lognormal, t(3) and t(10). These results suggest that in cases where it is advantageous to use the smoothed bootstrap rather than the standard bootstrap, the amount of resampling necessary might be substantially reduced by the use of importance resampling methods and the efficiency gains depend on the bandwidth used in the kernel density estimation.  相似文献

Summary. Many biomedical studies involve the analysis of multiple events. The dependence between the times to these end points is often of scientific interest. We investigate a situation when one end point is subject to censoring by the other. The model assumptions of Day and co-workers and Fine and co-workers are extended to more general structures where the level of association may vary with time. Two types of estimating function are proposed. Asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators are derived. Their finite sample performance is studied via simulations. In this note, we consider estimating the bivariate survival function when both components are subject to left truncation and right censoring. We propose two types of estimators as generalizations of the Dabrowska and Campbell and Földes estimators. The consistency of the proposed estimators is established. A simple bootstrap method is used for obtaining precision estimation of the proposed estimators. A simulation study is conducted to investigate the performance of the proposed estimators.  相似文献

Kernel estimation is a popular approach to estimation of the pair correlation function which is a fundamental spatial point process characteristic. Least squares cross validation was suggested by Guan [A least-squares cross-validation bandwidth selection approach in pair correlation function estimations. Statist Probab Lett. 2007;77(18):1722–1729] as a data-driven approach to select the kernel bandwidth. The method can, however, be computationally demanding for large point pattern data sets. We suggest a modified least squares cross validation approach that is asymptotically equivalent to the one proposed by Guan but is computationally much faster.  相似文献

There have been many advances in statistical methodology for the analysis of recurrent event data in recent years. Multiplicative semiparametric rate-based models are widely used in clinical trials, as are more general partially conditional rate-based models involving event-based stratification. The partially conditional model provides protection against extra-Poisson variation as well as event-dependent censoring, but conditioning on outcomes post-randomization can induce confounding and compromise causal inference. The purpose of this article is to examine the consequences of model misspecification in semiparametric marginal and partially conditional rate-based analysis through omission of prognostic variables. We do so using estimating function theory and empirical studies.

We propose a semiparametric estimator for single‐index models with censored responses due to detection limits. In the presence of left censoring, the mean function cannot be identified without any parametric distributional assumptions, but the quantile function is still identifiable at upper quantile levels. To avoid parametric distributional assumption, we propose to fit censored quantile regression and combine information across quantile levels to estimate the unknown smooth link function and the index parameter. Under some regularity conditions, we show that the estimated link function achieves the non‐parametric optimal convergence rate, and the estimated index parameter is asymptotically normal. The simulation study shows that the proposed estimator is competitive with the omniscient least squares estimator based on the latent uncensored responses for data with normal errors but much more efficient for heavy‐tailed data under light and moderate censoring. The practical value of the proposed method is demonstrated through the analysis of a human immunodeficiency virus antibody data set.  相似文献

The solution to the errors-in-variables problem computed through total least squares is highly nonlinear. Because of this, many statistical procedures for constructing confidence intervals and testing hypotheses cannot be applied. One possible solution to this dilemma is bootstrapping. A nonparametric bootstrap technique could fail. Here, the proper nonparametric bootstrap procedure is provided and its correctness is proved. On the other hand, a residual bootstrap is not valid and suitable in this case. The results are illustrated through a simulation study. An application of this approach to calibration data is presented.  相似文献

A generalized Cox regression model is studied for the covariance analysis of competing risks data subject to independent random censoring. The information of the maximum partial likelihood estimates is compared with that of maximum likelihood estimates assuming a log linear hazard function.The method of generalized variance is used to define the efficiency of estimation between the two models. This is then applied to two-sample problems with two exponentially censoring rates. Numerical results are summarized ane presented graphically.The detailed results indicate that the semi-parametric model wrks well for a higher rate of censoring. A method of generalizing the result to type 1 censoring and the efficiency of estimating the coefficient of the covariate are discussecd. A brief account of using the results to help design experiments is also given.  相似文献

Nonparametric estimates of the conditional distribution of a response variable given a covariate are important for data exploration purposes. In this article, we propose a nonparametric estimator of the conditional distribution function in the case where the response variable is subject to interval censoring and double truncation. Using the approach of Dehghan and Duchesne (2011), the proposed method consists in adding weights that depend on the covariate value in the self-consistency equation of Turnbull (1976), which results in a nonparametric estimator. We demonstrate by simulation that the estimator, bootstrap variance estimation and bandwidth selection all perform well in finite samples.  相似文献

Recurrent events data with a terminal event often arise in many longitudinal studies. Most of existing models assume multiplicative covariate effects and model the conditional recurrent event rate given survival. In this article, we propose a marginal additive rates model for recurrent events with a terminal event, and develop two procedures for estimating the model parameters. The asymptotic properties of the resulting estimators are established. In addition, some numerical procedures are presented for model checking. The finite-sample behavior of the proposed methods is examined through simulation studies, and an application to a bladder cancer study is also illustrated.  相似文献
