In this paper, we consider the superimposed exponential signals in zero-mean multiplicative and additive noise when all the noise are independently and identically distributed. We use a three-step iterative procedure to estimate the frequencies of the considered model. It is observed that the estimators are consistent and work quite well in terms of biases and mean square errors. Moreover, the convergence rate of the estimators attains O p (N ?3/2), which is the best convergence rate in the case of only additive noise and constant amplitude.  相似文献

In this paper we study the biases of jackknife estimators of central third moments which play an important role in improving the accuracy of the normal approximation. It has been found in simulation studies that the jackknife estimator of the skewness coefficient, into which the jackknife variance and third moment estimators are substituted, have downward biases. For the jackknife variance estimators, their asymptotic properties are precisely studied and their biases are discussed theoretically, Here we study the biases of the jackknife estimators of the central third moments for U-statistics theoretically, The results show that the biases are not always downward.  相似文献

We propose a new class of semiparametric estimators for proportional hazards models in the presence of measurement error in the covariates, where the baseline hazard function, the hazard function for the censoring time, and the distribution of the true covariates are considered as unknown infinite dimensional parameters. We estimate the model components by solving estimating equations based on the semiparametric efficient scores under a sequence of restricted models where the logarithm of the hazard functions are approximated by reduced rank regression splines. The proposed estimators are locally efficient in the sense that the estimators are semiparametrically efficient if the distribution of the error‐prone covariates is specified correctly and are still consistent and asymptotically normal if the distribution is misspecified. Our simulation studies show that the proposed estimators have smaller biases and variances than competing methods. We further illustrate the new method with a real application in an HIV clinical trial.  相似文献

In the present article, we have proposed some classes of estimators based on transformed auxiliary variable. The biases and mean squared errors (MSEs) of the proposed estimators have been obtained. The proposed estimators have been compared with simple mean estimator when there is no matching and the optimum estimator, which is a combination of the means of the matched and unmatched portion of the sample at the second occasion. Optimum replacement policy and the efficiency of the proposed estimators have been discussed. Theoretical results are well supported with an empirical study.  相似文献

This article addresses the problem of the bias of income and expenditure elasticities estimated on pseudopanel data caused by measurement error and unobserved heterogeneity. We gauge these biases empirically by comparing cross-sectional, pseudo-panel, and true panel data from both Polish and U.S. expenditure surveys. Our results suggest that unobserved heterogeneity imparts a downward bias to cross-section estimates of income elasticities of at-home food expenditures and an upward bias to estimates of income elasticities of away-from-home food expenditures. “Within” and first-difference estimators suffer less bias, but only if the effects of measurement error are accounted for with instrumental variables.  相似文献

This paper considers alternative estimators of the intercept parameter of the linear regression model with normal error when uncertain non-sample prior information about the value of the slope parameter is available. The maximum likelihood, restricted, preliminary test and shrinkage estimators are considered. Based on their quadratic biases and mean square errors the relative performances of the estimators are investigated. Both analytical and graphical comparisons are explored. None of the estimators is found to be uniformly dominating the others. However, if the non-sample prior information regarding the value of the slope is not too far from its true value, the shrinkage estimator of the intercept parameter dominates the rest of the estimators.  相似文献

In this paper, a noise subspace (NS) method is proposed for estimating frequencies of two-dimensional harmonics in the presence of zero-mean multiplicative and additive noise. The proposed method is based on a special structured data matrix, the singular vectors of the matrix and a special basis of the NS which is generated by some of these vectors. It is observed that the estimators are consistent and work quite well in terms of biases and mean square errors. It is also observed that the method can be used to estimate accurately the frequencies of the evanescent component of texture.  相似文献

The ratio method is commonly used to the estimation of means and totals. This method was extended to the problem of estimating the distribution function. An alternative ratio estimator of the distribution function is defined. A result that compares the variances of the aforementioned ratio estimators is used to define optimum design-based ratio estimators of the distribution function. Different empirical results indicate that the optimum ratio estimators can be more efficient than alternative ratio estimators. In addition, we show by simulations that alternative ratio estimators can have large biases, whereas biases of the optimum ratio estimators are negligible in this situation.  相似文献

The additive risk model provides an alternative modelling technique for failure time data to the proportional hazards model. In this article, we consider the additive risk model with a nonparametric risk effect. We study estimation of the risk function and its derivatives with a parametric and an unspecified baseline hazard function respectively. The resulting estimators are the local likelihood and the local score estimators. We establish the asymptotic normality of the estimators and show that both methods have the same formula for asymptotic bias but different formula for variance. It is found that, in some special cases, the local score estimator is of the same efficiency as the local likelihood estimator though it does not use the information about the baseline hazard function. Another advantage of the local score estimator is that it has a closed form and is easy to implement. Some simulation studies are conducted to evaluate and compare the performance of the two estimators. A numerical example is used for illustration.  相似文献

In this paper, a computationally efficient algorithm is proposed for estimating the parameters of two-dimensional (2-D) superimposed exponential signals in presence of independently and identically distributed (i.i.d.) zero-mean multiplicative and additive noise. It is observed that the estimator is consistent and works quite well in terms of biases and mean squared errors. Moreover, the algorithm is efficient when multiple 2-D frequencies pairs share a same 1-D frequency component and the estimators attain the same convergence rate with the least squares estimator (LSE) in presence of additive noise. Finally, it is observed that the algorithm can be used to estimate the frequencies of the evanescent component of texture accurately.  相似文献

This article considers the shrinkage estimation procedure in the Cox's proportional hazards regression model when it is suspected that some of the parameters may be restricted to a subspace. We have developed the statistical properties of the shrinkage estimators including asymptotic distributional biases and risks. The shrinkage estimators have much higher relative efficiency than the classical estimator, furthermore, we consider two penalty estimators—the LASSO and adaptive LASSO—and compare their relative performance with that of the shrinkage estimators numerically. A Monte Carlo simulation experiment is conducted for different combinations of irrelevant predictors and the performance of each estimator is evaluated in terms of simulated mean squared error. Simulation study shows that the shrinkage estimators are comparable to the penalty estimators when the number of irrelevant predictors in the model is relatively large. The shrinkage and penalty methods are applied to two real data sets to illustrate the usefulness of the procedures in practice.  相似文献

In this article we study a semiparametric additive risks model (McKeague and Sasieni (1994)) for two-stage design survival data where accurate information is available only on second stage subjects, a subset of the first stage study. We derive two-stage estimators by combining data from both stages. Large sample inferences are developed. As a by-product, we also obtain asymptotic properties of the single stage estimators of McKeague and Sasieni (1994) when the semiparametric additive risks model is misspecified. The proposed two-stage estimators are shown to be asymptotically more efficient than the second stage estimators. They also demonstrate smaller bias and variance for finite samples. The developed methods are illustrated using small intestine cancer data from the SEER (Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results) Program.  相似文献

Recently amplitude modulated (AM) model in presence of additive white noise was used to analyze certain non-stationary speech data. It is observed that the assumption of white noise may not be proper in many cases. In this article, we consider the AM signal model in presence of stationary noise. We consider the least squares estimators and the estimators obtained by maximizing the Periodogram function. The two estimators are asymptotically equivalent. We study the theoretical properties of both estimators and observe their performances through numerical simulations. One speech data is analyzed and it is observed that the performance of the proposed estimators is quite satisfactory.  相似文献

This article deals with the problem of estimation of the finite population mean using auxiliary information in the presence of random non response. Three different situations where random non response occurs either in study variate, or in auxiliary variate, or in both the variates, have been discussed. The asymptotically optimum estimators (AOEs) for each strategy are also identified. Expressions of biases and mean squared errors of the proposed estimators have been derived up to the first degree of approximation. Proposed estimators have been compared with the usual unbiased estimator, ratio estimator, and product estimator in the presence of random non response. Empirical studies are also carried out to show the performance of the proposed estimators over other estimators.  相似文献

We introduce in this paper, the shrinkage estimation method in the lognormal regression model for censored data involving many predictors, some of which may not have any influence on the response of interest. We develop the asymptotic properties of the shrinkage estimators (SEs) using the notion of asymptotic distributional biases and risks. We show that if the shrinkage dimension exceeds two, the asymptotic risk of the SEs is strictly less than the corresponding classical estimators. Furthermore, we study the penalty (LASSO and adaptive LASSO) estimation methods and compare their relative performance with the SEs. A simulation study for various combinations of the inactive predictors and censoring percentages shows that the SEs perform better than the penalty estimators in certain parts of the parameter space, especially when there are many inactive predictors in the model. It also shows that the shrinkage and penalty estimators outperform the classical estimators. A real-life data example using Worcester heart attack study is used to illustrate the performance of the suggested estimators.  相似文献

A structural regression model is considered in which some of the variables are measured with error. Instead of additive measurement errors, systematic biases are allowed by relating true and observed values via simple linear regressions. Additional data is available, based on standards, which allows for “calibration” of the measuring methods involved. Using only moment assumptions, some simple estimators are proposed and their asymptotic properties are developed. The results parallel and extend those given by Fuller (1987) in which the errors are additive and the error covariance is estimated. Maximum likelihood estimation is also discussed and the problem is illustrated using data from an acid rain study in which the relationship between pH and alkalinity is of interest but neither variable is observed exactly.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a class of additive transformation models for recurrent event data, which includes the additive rates model as a special case. The new models offer great flexibility in formulating the effects of covariates on the mean function of recurrent events. Estimating equation approaches are developed for the model parameters, and asymptotic properties of the resulting estimators are established. In addition, a model checking procedure is presented to assess the adequacy of the model. The finite sample performance of the proposed estimators is examined through simulation studies, and an application to a bladder cancer study is presented.  相似文献

We consider parametric non-linear regression models with additive innovations which are serially uncorrelated but not necessarily independent, and consider the consequences of maximum likelihood and related one-step iterative estimation when the innovations are treated as being iid from their unconditional density. We find that the estimators' asymptotic covariance matrices will generally differ from those that would obtain if the errors actually were iid, except for the special case of strictly exogenous regressors. One important application of these results is to analysis of the properties of adaptive estimators, which employ nonparametric kernel estimates of the unconditional density of the disturbances in the construction of one-step iterative estimators. In the presence of strictly exogenous regressors, adaptive estimators are found to be asymptotically equivalent to the one-step iterative estimators that use the correct unconditional density. We illustrate our results through a brief Monte Carlo study.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a two-dimensional sinusoidal model observed in an additive random field. The proposed model has wide applications in statistical signal processing. The additive noise has mean zero but the variance may not be finite. We propose the least squares estimators to estimate the unknown parameters. It is observed that the least squares estimators are strongly consistent. We obtain the asymptotic distribution of the least squares estimators under the assumption that the additive errors are from a symmetric stable distribution. Some numerical experiments are performed to see how the results work for finite samples.  相似文献

This article is concerned with the estimation of a varying-coefficient regression model when the response variable is sometimes missing and some of the covariates are measured with additive errors. We propose a class of estimators for the coefficient functions, as well as for the population mean and the error variance. The resulting estimators are shown to be asymptotically normal. Simulation studies are conducted to illustrate our approach.  相似文献
