In modern quality engineering, dual response surface methodology is a powerful tool to model an industrial process by using both the mean and the standard deviation of the measurements as the responses. The least squares method in regression is often used to estimate the coefficients in the mean and standard deviation models, and various decision criteria are proposed by researchers to find the optimal conditions. Based on the inherent hierarchical structure of the dual response problems, we propose a Bayesian hierarchical approach to model dual response surfaces. Such an approach is compared with two frequentist least squares methods by using two real data sets and simulated data.  相似文献

We consider fitting Emax models to the primary endpoint for a parallel group dose–response clinical trial. Such models can be difficult to fit using Maximum Likelihood if the data give little information about the maximum possible response. Consequently, we consider alternative models that can be derived as limiting cases, which can usually be fitted. Furthermore we propose two model selection procedures for choosing between the different models. These model selection procedures are compared with two model selection procedures which have previously been used. In a simulation study we find that the model selection procedure that performs best depends on the underlying true situation. One of the new model selection procedures gives what may be regarded as the most robust of the procedures.  相似文献

Mixture experiments are commonly encountered in many fields including chemical, pharmaceutical and consumer product industries. Due to their wide applications, mixture experiments, a special study of response surface methodology, have been given greater attention in both model building and determination of designs compared with other experimental studies. In this paper, some new approaches are suggested on model building and selection for the analysis of the data in mixture experiments by using a special generalized linear models, logistic regression model, proposed by Chen et al. [7]. Generally, the special mixture models, which do not have a constant term, are highly affected by collinearity in modeling the mixture experiments. For this reason, in order to alleviate the undesired effects of collinearity in the analysis of mixture experiments with logistic regression, a new mixture model is defined with an alternative ratio variable. The deviance analysis table is given for standard mixture polynomial models defined by transformations and special mixture models used as linear predictors. The effects of components on the response in the restricted experimental region are given by using an alternative representation of Cox's direction approach. In addition, odds ratio and the confidence intervals of odds ratio are identified according to the chosen reference and control groups. To compare the suggested models, some model selection criteria, graphical odds ratio and the confidence intervals of the odds ratio are used. The advantage of the suggested approaches is illustrated on tumor incidence data set.  相似文献

The main focus of our paper is to compare the performance of different model selection criteria used for multivariate reduced rank time series. We consider one of the most commonly used reduced rank model, that is, the reduced rank vector autoregression (RRVAR (p, r)) introduced by Velu et al. [Reduced rank models for multiple time series. Biometrika. 1986;7(31):105–118]. In our study, the most popular model selection criteria are included. The criteria are divided into two groups, that is, simultaneous selection and two-step selection criteria, accordingly. Methods from the former group select both an autoregressive order p and a rank r simultaneously, while in the case of two-step criteria, first an optimal order p is chosen (using model selection criteria intended for the unrestricted VAR model) and then an optimal rank r of coefficient matrices is selected (e.g. by means of sequential testing). Considered model selection criteria include well-known information criteria (such as Akaike information criterion, Schwarz criterion, Hannan–Quinn criterion, etc.) as well as widely used sequential tests (e.g. the Bartlett test) and the bootstrap method. An extensive simulation study is carried out in order to investigate the efficiency of all model selection criteria included in our study. The analysis takes into account 34 methods, including 6 simultaneous methods and 28 two-step approaches, accordingly. In order to carefully analyse how different factors affect performance of model selection criteria, we consider over 150 simulation settings. In particular, we investigate the influence of the following factors: time series dimension, different covariance structure, different level of correlation among components and different level of noise (variance). Moreover, we analyse the prediction accuracy concerned with the application of the RRVAR model and compare it with results obtained for the unrestricted vector autoregression. In this paper, we also present a real data application of model selection criteria for the RRVAR model using the Polish macroeconomic time series data observed in the period 1997–2007.  相似文献

In classical mixture models for ordinal data with an uncertainty component, the Uniform distribution is used to model indecision. In the approach proposed here, the discrete Uniform distribution is replaced by a more flexible distribution, which is centered in the middle of the response categories. The resulting model allows to distinguish between a tendency to middle categories and a tendency to extreme categories. By linking these preferences to explanatory variables, one can investigate which persons show a tendency to these response styles. It is demonstrated that severe bias might occur if inadvertently the Uniform distribution is used to model uncertainty. An application to attitudes on the performance of health services illustrates the advantages of the more flexible model.  相似文献

This paper investigates, by means of Monte Carlo simulation, the effects of different choices of order for autoregressive approximation on the fully efficient parameter estimates for autoregressive moving average models. Four order selection criteria, AIC, BIC, HQ and PKK, were compared and different model structures with varying sample sizes were used to contrast the performance of the criteria. Some asymptotic results which provide a useful guide for assessing the performance of these criteria are presented. The results of this comparison show that there are marked differences in the accuracy implied using these alternative criteria in small sample situations and that it is preferable to apply BIC criterion, which leads to greater precision of Gaussian likelihood estimates, in such cases. Implications of the findings of this study for the estimation of time series models are highlighted.  相似文献

Randomized response models have been used to estimate a population proportion of a sensitive attribute. A randomized device is typically employed to protect respondent's privacy in a survey. In addition, an unrelated question is asked to improve the statistical efficiency. In this article, we propose Bayesian estimation of rare sensitive attribute using randomized response technique, which includes a rare unrelated attribute. Two cases are considered, the proportion of a rare unrelated attribute is known and unknown. A simulation study is conducted to assess the performance of the models using mean absolute error and coverage probability. The results show that the performance depends on the parameters and is robust to priors.  相似文献

Inflated data are prevalent in many situations and a variety of inflated models with extensions have been derived to fit data with excessive counts of some particular responses. The family of information criteria (IC) has been used to compare the fit of models for selection purposes. Yet despite the common use in statistical applications, there are not too many studies evaluating the performance of IC in inflated models. In this study, we studied the performance of IC for data with dual-inflated data. The new zero- and K-inflated Poisson (ZKIP) regression model and conventional inflated models including Poisson regression and zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) regression were fitted for dual-inflated data and the performance of IC were compared. The effect of sample sizes and the proportions of inflated observations towards selection performance were also examined. The results suggest that the Bayesian information criterion (BIC) and consistent Akaike information criterion (CAIC) are more accurate than the Akaike information criterion (AIC) in terms of model selection when the true model is simple (i.e. Poisson regression (POI)). For more complex models, such as ZIP and ZKIP, the AIC was consistently better than the BIC and CAIC, although it did not reach high levels of accuracy when sample size and the proportion of zero observations were small. The AIC tended to over-fit the data for the POI, whereas the BIC and CAIC tended to under-parameterize the data for ZIP and ZKIP. Therefore, it is desirable to study other model selection criteria for dual-inflated data with small sample size.  相似文献

In linear mixed‐effects (LME) models, if a fitted model has more random‐effect terms than the true model, a regularity condition required in the asymptotic theory may not hold. In such cases, the marginal Akaike information criterion (AIC) is positively biased for (?2) times the expected log‐likelihood. The asymptotic bias of the maximum log‐likelihood as an estimator of the expected log‐likelihood is evaluated for LME models with balanced design in the context of parameter‐constrained models. Moreover, bias‐reduced marginal AICs for LME models based on a Monte Carlo method are proposed. The performance of the proposed criteria is compared with existing criteria by using example data and by a simulation study. It was found that the bias of the proposed criteria was smaller than that of the existing marginal AIC when a larger model was fitted and that the probability of choosing a smaller model incorrectly was decreased.  相似文献

In an online prediction context, the authors introduce a new class of mongrel criteria that allow for the weighing of candidate models and the combination of their predictions based both on model‐based and empirical measures of their performance. They present simulation results which show that model averaging using the mongrel‐derived weights leads, in small samples, to predictions that are more accurate than that obtained by Bayesian weight updating, provided that none of the candidate models is too distant from the data generator.  相似文献

The standard methods for analyzing data arising from a ‘thorough QT/QTc study’ are based on multivariate normal models with common variance structure for both drug and placebo. Such modeling assumptions may be violated and when the sample sizes are small, the statistical inference can be sensitive to such stringent assumptions. This article proposes a flexible class of parametric models to address the above‐mentioned limitations of the currently used models. A Bayesian methodology is used for data analysis and models are compared using the deviance information criteria. Superior performance of the proposed models over the current models is illustrated through a real dataset obtained from a GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) conducted ‘thorough QT/QTc study’. In this we consider the problem of model selection for infinite variance time series. We introduce a group of model selection critera based on a general loss function Ψ. This family includes various generalizations of predictive least square and AIC Parameter estimation is carried out using Ψ. We use two loss functions commonly used in robust estimation and show that certain criteria out perform the conventional approach based on least squares or Yule-Walker estima­tion for heavy tailed innovations. Our conclusions are based on a comprehensive study of the performance of competing criteria for a wide selection of AR(2) models. We also consider the performance of these techniques when the ‘true’ model is not contained in the family of candidate models.  相似文献

Frequentist and Bayesian methods differ in many aspects but share some basic optimal properties. In real-life prediction problems, situations exist in which a model based on one of the above paradigms is preferable depending on some subjective criteria. Nonparametric classification and regression techniques, such as decision trees and neural networks, have both frequentist (classification and regression trees (CARTs) and artificial neural networks) as well as Bayesian counterparts (Bayesian CART and Bayesian neural networks) to learning from data. In this paper, we present two hybrid models combining the Bayesian and frequentist versions of CART and neural networks, which we call the Bayesian neural tree (BNT) models. BNT models can simultaneously perform feature selection and prediction, are highly flexible, and generalise well in settings with limited training observations. We study the statistical consistency of the proposed approaches and derive the optimal value of a vital model parameter. The excellent performance of the newly proposed BNT models is shown using simulation studies. We also provide some illustrative examples using a wide variety of standard regression datasets from a public available machine learning repository to show the superiority of the proposed models in comparison to popularly used Bayesian CART and Bayesian neural network models.  相似文献

The development of randomized response models for personal interview surveys has attracted much attention since the pioneering work of Warner [1965. Randomized response: a survey technique for eliminating evasive answer bias. J. Amer. Statist. Assoc. 60, 63–69]. Several randomized response models have been developed by researchers for collecting data on both qualitative and the quantitative variables, but none of these models discuss matched pair data. Motivated by a longitudinal oral health study, the Signal-Tandmobiel® study, a Bayesian approach has been developed to model misclassified ordinal response data. Two regression models have been considered to incorporate misclassification in the categorical response. Specifically, probit and logit models have been developed. The computational difficulties have been avoided by using data augmentation. This idea is exploited to derive efficient Markov chain Monte Carlo methods. Although the method is proposed for ordered categories, it can also be implemented for unordered ones in a simple way. The model performance is shown through a simulation-based example and the analysis of the motivating study.  相似文献

Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithms have been shown to be useful for estimation of complex item response theory (IRT) models. Although an MCMC algorithm can be very useful, it also requires care in use and interpretation of results. In particular, MCMC algorithms generally make extensive use of priors on model parameters. In this paper, MCMC estimation is illustrated using a simple mixture IRT model, a mixture Rasch model (MRM), to demonstrate how the algorithm operates and how results may be affected by some commonly used priors. Priors on the probabilities of mixtures, label switching, model selection, metric anchoring, and implementation of the MCMC algorithm using WinBUGS are described, and their effects illustrated on parameter recovery in practical testing situations. In addition, an example is presented in which an MRM is fitted to a set of educational test data using the MCMC algorithm and a comparison is illustrated with results from three existing maximum likelihood estimation methods.  相似文献

Graphical model diagnosis procedures for two-way tables have already been proposed by Mandel, as well as by Bradu and Gabriel who used Gabriel's biplot as a main tool.

In this paper, a graphical model diagnosis extending Mandel's approach is developed. Response surface models are obtained whereby the response is expressed in terms of ‘truth-connected’ latent variates and, ultimately, in terms of originally measured external variates.

Meaningful models are obtained in some cases, accurate smoothing and interpolation algorithms in others.

As a by–product, Euclidean maps, which represent a twodimensional scaling (for rows or columns) also displaying ,ANOVA features, are obtained. To an extent, these maps can be viewed as a substitute for a model in the event of partial failure of the modelling operation.  相似文献

The clinical trials are usually designed with the implicit assumption that data analysis will occur only after the trial is completed. It is a challenging problem if the sponsor wishes to evaluate the drug efficacy in the middle of the study without breaking the randomization codes. In this article, the randomized response model and mixture model are introduced to analyze the data, masking the randomization codes of the crossover design. Given the probability of treatment sequence, the test of mixture model provides higher power than the test of randomized response model, which is inadequate in the example. The paired t-test has higher powers than both models if the randomization codes are broken. The sponsor may stop the trial early to claim the effectiveness of the study drug if the mixture model concludes a positive result.  相似文献

Extended zero-one inflated beta and adjusted three-part regression models are introduced to analyze proportional response data where there are nonzero probabilities that the response variable takes the values zero and one. The proposed models adapt skewness and heteroscedasticity of the fractional response data, and are constructed to estimate the unknown parameters. Extensive Monte Carlo simulation studies are used to compare the performance of the two approaches with respect to bias and root mean square error. Longitudinal health-related quality-of-life (QOL) data are often collected as part of clinical studies. Here two analyses of QOL data from a prospective study of breast cancer patients evaluate how physical performance is related to factors such as age, menopausal status and type of adjuvant treatment. The first analysis uses summary statistic methods. The same questions are then addressed using a multilevel model. Because of the structure of the physical performance response, regression models for the analysis of ordinal data are used. The analyses of base-line and follow-up QOL data at four time points over two years from 257 women show that reported base-line physical performance was consistently associated with later performance and that women who had received chemotherapy in the month before the QOL assessment had a greater physical performance burden. There is a slight power gain of the multilevel model over the summary statistic analysis. The multilevel model also allows relationships with time-dependent covariates to be included, highlighting treatment-related factors affecting physical performance that could not be considered within the summary statistic analysis. Checking of the multilevel model assumptions is exemplified.  相似文献
