We consider a regression analysis of multivariate response on a vector of predictors. In this article, we develop a sliced inverse regression-based method for reducing the dimension of predictors without requiring a prespecified parametric model. Our proposed method preserves as much regression information as possible. We derive the asymptotic weighted chi-squared test for dimension. Simulation results are reported and comparisons are made with three methods—most predictable variates, k-means inverse regression and canonical correlation approach.  相似文献

Many model‐free dimension reduction methods have been developed for high‐dimensional regression data but have not paid much attention on problems with non‐linear confounding. In this paper, we propose an inverse‐regression method of dependent variable transformation for detecting the presence of non‐linear confounding. The benefit of using geometrical information from our method is highlighted. A ratio estimation strategy is incorporated in our approach to enhance the interpretation of variable selection. This approach can be implemented not only in principal Hessian directions (PHD) but also in other recently developed dimension reduction methods. Several simulation examples that are reported for illustration and comparisons are made with sliced inverse regression and PHD in ignorance of non‐linear confounding. An illustrative application to one real data is also presented.  相似文献

Summary.  The family of inverse regression estimators that was recently proposed by Cook and Ni has proven effective in dimension reduction by transforming the high dimensional predictor vector to its low dimensional projections. We propose a general shrinkage estimation strategy for the entire inverse regression estimation family that is capable of simultaneous dimension reduction and variable selection. We demonstrate that the new estimators achieve consistency in variable selection without requiring any traditional model, meanwhile retaining the root n estimation consistency of the dimension reduction basis. We also show the effectiveness of the new estimators through both simulation and real data analysis.  相似文献

To reduce the dimensionality of regression problems, sliced inverse regression approaches make it possible to determine linear combinations of a set of explanatory variables X related to the response variable Y in general semiparametric regression context. From a practical point of view, the determination of a suitable dimension (number of the linear combination of X) is important. In the literature, statistical tests based on the nullity of some eigenvalues have been proposed. Another approach is to consider the quality of the estimation of the effective dimension reduction (EDR) space. The square trace correlation between the true EDR space and its estimate can be used as goodness of estimation. In this article, we focus on the SIRα method and propose a naïve bootstrap estimation of the square trace correlation criterion. Moreover, this criterion could also select the α parameter in the SIRα method. We indicate how it can be used in practice. A simulation study is performed to illustrate the behavior of this approach.  相似文献

Abstract

A simple method based on sliced inverse regression (SIR) is proposed to explore an effective dimension reduction (EDR) vector for the single index model. We avoid the principle component analysis step of the original SIR by using two sample mean vectors in two slices of the response variable and their difference vector. The theories become simpler, the method is equivalent to the multiple linear regression with dichotomized response, and the estimator can be expressed by a closed form, although the objective function might be an unknown nonlinear. It can be applied for the case when the number of covariates is large, and it requires no matrix operation or iterative calculation.  相似文献

This paper discusses visualization methods for discriminant analysis. It does not address numerical methods for classification per se, but rather focuses on graphical methods that can be viewed as pre-processors, aiding the analyst's understanding of the data and the choice of a final classifier. The methods are adaptations of recent results in dimension reduction for regression, including sliced inverse regression and sliced average variance estimation. A permutation test is suggested as a means of determining dimension, and examples are given throughout the discussion.  相似文献

This paper develops a novel weighted composite quantile regression (CQR) method for estimation of a linear model when some covariates are missing at random and the probability for missingness mechanism can be modelled parametrically. By incorporating the unbiased estimating equations of incomplete data into empirical likelihood (EL), we obtain the EL-based weights, and then re-adjust the inverse probability weighted CQR for estimating the vector of regression coefficients. Theoretical results show that the proposed method can achieve semiparametric efficiency if the selection probability function is correctly specified, therefore the EL weighted CQR is more efficient than the inverse probability weighted CQR. Besides, our algorithm is computationally simple and easy to implement. Simulation studies are conducted to examine the finite sample performance of the proposed procedures. Finally, we apply the new method to analyse the US news College data.  相似文献

The detection of influential observations on the estimation of the dimension reduction subspace returned by Sliced Inverse Regression (SIR) is considered. Although there are many measures to detect influential observations in related methods such as multiple linear regression, there has been little development in this area with respect to dimension reduction. One particular influence measure for a version of SIR is examined and it is shown, via simulation and example, how this may be used to detect influential observations in practice.  相似文献

A method for nonparametric estimation of density based on a randomly censored sample is presented. The density is expressed as a linear combination of cubic M -splines, and the coefficients are determined by pseudo-maximum-likelihood estimation (likelihood is maximized conditionally on data-dependent knots). By using regression splines (small number of knots) it is possible to reduce the estimation problem to a space of low dimension while preserving flexibility, thus striking a compromise between parametric approaches and ordinary nonparametric approaches based on spline smoothing. The number of knots is determined by the minimum AIC. Examples of simulated and real data are presented. Asymptotic theory and the bootstrap indicate that the precision and the accuracy of the estimates are satisfactory.  相似文献

Sliced Inverse Regression (SIR) is an effective method for dimension reduction in high-dimensional regression problems. The original method, however, requires the inversion of the predictors covariance matrix. In case of collinearity between these predictors or small sample sizes compared to the dimension, the inversion is not possible and a regularization technique has to be used. Our approach is based on a Fisher Lecture given by R.D. Cook where it is shown that SIR axes can be interpreted as solutions of an inverse regression problem. We propose to introduce a Gaussian prior distribution on the unknown parameters of the inverse regression problem in order to regularize their estimation. We show that some existing SIR regularizations can enter our framework, which permits a global understanding of these methods. Three new priors are proposed leading to new regularizations of the SIR method. A comparison on simulated data as well as an application to the estimation of Mars surface physical properties from hyperspectral images are provided.  相似文献

A multivariate linear calibration problem, in which response variable is multivariate and explanatory variable is univariate, is considered. In this paper a class of generalized inverse regression estimators is proposed in multi-univariate linear calibration. It includes the classical estimator and the inverse regression one (or Krutchkoff estimator). For the proposed estimator we derive the expressions of bias and mean square error (MSE). Furthermore the behavior of these characteristics is investigated through an analytical method. In addition through a numerical study we confirm the existence of a generalized inverse regression estimator to improve both the classical and the inverse regression estimators on the MSE criterion.  相似文献

The existence of a dimension reduction (DR) subspace is a common assumption in regression analysis when dealing with high-dimensional predictors. The estimation of such a DR subspace has received considerable attention in the past few years, the most popular method being undoubtedly the sliced inverse regression. In this paper, we propose a new estimation procedure of the DR subspace by assuming that the joint distribution of the predictor and the response variables is a finite mixture of distributions. The new method is compared through a simulation study to some classical methods.  相似文献

This paper presents a goodness‐of‐fit test for parametric regression models with scalar response and directional predictor, that is, a vector on a sphere of arbitrary dimension. The testing procedure is based on the weighted squared distance between a smooth and a parametric regression estimator, where the smooth regression estimator is obtained by a projected local approach. Asymptotic behaviour of the test statistic under the null hypothesis and local alternatives is provided, jointly with a consistent bootstrap algorithm for application in practice. A simulation study illustrates the performance of the test in finite samples. The procedure is applied to test a linear model in text mining.  相似文献

In this paper, a new estimation procedure based on composite quantile regression and functional principal component analysis (PCA) method is proposed for the partially functional linear regression models (PFLRMs). The proposed estimation method can simultaneously estimate both the parametric regression coefficients and functional coefficient components without specification of the error distributions. The proposed estimation method is shown to be more efficient empirically for non-normal random error, especially for Cauchy error, and almost as efficient for normal random errors. Furthermore, based on the proposed estimation procedure, we use the penalized composite quantile regression method to study variable selection for parametric part in the PFLRMs. Under certain regularity conditions, consistency, asymptotic normality, and Oracle property of the resulting estimators are derived. Simulation studies and a real data analysis are conducted to assess the finite sample performance of the proposed methods.  相似文献

We investigate the asymptotic behaviour of the recursive Nadaraya–Watson estimator for the estimation of the regression function in a semiparametric regression model. On the one hand, we make use of the recursive version of the sliced inverse regression method for the estimation of the unknown parameter of the model. On the other hand, we implement a recursive Nadaraya–Watson procedure for the estimation of the regression function which takes into account the previous estimation of the parameter of the semiparametric regression model. We establish the almost sure convergence as well as the asymptotic normality for our Nadaraya–Watson estimate. We also illustrate our semiparametric estimation procedure on simulated data.  相似文献

This paper studies the problem of mean response estimation where missingness occurs to the response but multiple-dimensional covariates are observable. Two main challenges occur in this situation: curse of dimensionality and model specification. The non parametric imputation method relieves model specification but suffers curse of dimensionality, while some model-based methods such as inverse probability weighting (IPW) and augmented inverse probability weighting (AIPW) methods are the opposite. We propose a unified non parametric method to overcome the two challenges with the aiding of sufficient dimension reduction. It imposes no parametric structure on propensity score or conditional mean response, and thus retains the non parametric flavor. Moreover, the estimator achieves the optimal efficiency that a double robust estimator can attain. Simulations were conducted and it demonstrates the excellent performances of our method in various situations.  相似文献

Efficient statistical inference on nonignorable missing data is a challenging problem. This paper proposes a new estimation procedure based on composite quantile regression (CQR) for linear regression models with nonignorable missing data, that is applicable even with high-dimensional covariates. A parametric model is assumed for modelling response probability, which is estimated by the empirical likelihood approach. Local identifiability of the proposed strategy is guaranteed on the basis of an instrumental variable approach. A set of data-based adaptive weights constructed via an empirical likelihood method is used to weight CQR functions. The proposed method is resistant to heavy-tailed errors or outliers in the response. An adaptive penalisation method for variable selection is proposed to achieve sparsity with high-dimensional covariates. Limiting distributions of the proposed estimators are derived. Simulation studies are conducted to investigate the finite sample performance of the proposed methodologies. An application to the ACTG 175 data is analysed.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a ridge estimator for the vector of parameters β in a semiparametric model when additional linear restrictions on the parameter vector are assumed to hold. We also obtain the semiparametric restricted ridge estimator for the parametric component in the semiparametric regression model. The ideas in this article are illustrated with a data set consisting of housing prices and through a comparison of the performances of the proposed and related estimators via a Monte Carlo simulation.  相似文献

Because sliced inverse regression (SIR) using the conditional mean of the inverse regression fails to recover the central subspace when the inverse regression mean degenerates, sliced average variance estimation (SAVE) using the conditional variance was proposed in the sufficient dimension reduction literature. However, the efficacy of SAVE depends heavily upon the number of slices. In the present article, we introduce a class of weighted variance estimation (WVE), which, similar to SAVE and simple contour regression (SCR), uses the conditional variance of the inverse regression to recover the central subspace. The strong consistency and the asymptotic normality of the kernel estimation of WVE are established under mild regularity conditions. Finite sample studies are carried out for comparison with existing methods and an application to a real data is presented for illustration.  相似文献

Parametrically guided non‐parametric regression is an appealing method that can reduce the bias of a non‐parametric regression function estimator without increasing the variance. In this paper, we adapt this method to the censored data case using an unbiased transformation of the data and a local linear fit. The asymptotic properties of the proposed estimator are established, and its performance is evaluated via finite sample simulations.  相似文献
