The classic nonparametric confidence intervals for a difference or ratio of medians assume that the distributions of the response variable or the log-transformed response variable have identical shapes in each population. Asymptotic distribution-free confidence intervals for a difference and ratio of medians are proposed which do not require identically shaped distributions. The new asymptotic methods are easy to compute and simulation results show that they perform well in small samples.  相似文献

Tests of fit based on correlation-type statistics are investigated for the exponential, extreme-value, and logistic distributions. The statistics are shown to be asymptotically normal at the rate log½n. The result is used to show that such tests have 0 asymptotic relative efficiency.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article presents goodness-of-fit tests for two and three-parameter gamma distributions that are based on minimum quadratic forms of standardized logarithmic differences of values of the moment generating function and its empirical counterpart. The test statistics can be computed without reliance to special functions and have asymptotic chi-squared distributions. Monte Carlo simulations are used to compare the proposed test for the two-parameter gamma distribution with goodness-of-fit tests employing empirical distribution function or spacing statistics. Two data sets are used to illustrate the various tests.  相似文献

A pivotal quantity for a capture-recapture model is introduced and used to construct an asymptotic confidence region for (ε,N), where ε is the capture efficiency and N is the population size. The true confidence levels of certain regions are obtained by simulation. Certain confidence regions for (ε,N) are drawn to show the size of the regions and to show how confidence limits for N depend on ε.  相似文献

The equivalence of some tests of hypothesis and confidence limits is well known. When, however, the confidence limits are computed only after rejection of a null hypothesis, the usual unconditional confidence limits are no longer valid. This refers to a strict two-stage inference procedure: first test the hypothesis of interest and if the test results in a rejection decision, then proceed with estimating the relevant parameter. Under such a situation, confidence limits should be computed conditionally on the specified outcome of the test under which estimation proceeds. Conditional confidence sets will be longer than unconditional confidence sets and may even contain values of the parameter previously rejected by the test of hypothesis. Conditional confidence limits for the mean of a normal population with known variance are used to illustrate these results. In many applications, these results indicate that conditional estimation is probably not good practice.  相似文献

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, we investigate estimations in varying-coefficient partially linear errors-in-variables models with covariates missing at random. However, the estimators are often biased due to the existence of measurement errors, the bias-corrected profile least-squares estimator and local liner estimators for unknown parametric and coefficient functions are obtained based on inverse probability weighted method. The asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators both for the parameter and nonparametric parts are established. Second, we study asymptotic distributions of an empirical log-likelihood ratio statistic and maximum empirical likelihood estimator for the unknown parameter. Based on this, more accurate confidence regions of the unknown parameter can be constructed. The methods are examined through simulation studies and illustrated by a real data analysis.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article develops an adjusted empirical likelihood (EL) method for the additive hazards model. The adjusted EL ratio is shown to have a central chi-squared limiting distribution under the null hypothesis. We also evaluate its asymptotic distribution as a non central chi-squared distribution under the local alternatives of order n? 1/2, deriving the expression for the asymptotic power function. Simulation studies and a real example are conducted to evaluate the finite sample performance of the proposed method. Compared with the normal approximation-based method, the proposed method tends to have more larger empirical power and smaller confidence regions with comparable coverage probabilities.  相似文献

Abstract

Nonnested models are sometimes tested using a simulated reference distribution for the uncentred log likelihood ratio statistic. This approach has been recommended for the specific problem of testing linear and logarithmic regression models. The general asymptotic validity of the reference distribution test under correct choice of error distributions is questioned. The asymptotic behaviour of the test under incorrect assumptions about error distributions is also examined. In order to complement these analyses, Monte Carlo results for the case of linear and logarithmic regression models are provided. The finite sample properties of several standard tests for testing these alternative functional forms are also studied, under normal and nonnormal error distributions. These regression-based variable-addition tests are implemented using asymptotic and bootstrap critical values.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The compound Poisson-exponential distribution is a basic model in risk analysis and stochastic hydrology. Graphical procedures for assessing this distribution are proposed which utilize the residuals from a regression involving the moment generating function. Plots furnished with a 95% simultaneous confidence band are constructed. The band and critical points of the equivalent goodness-of-fit test are found by utilizing asymptotic results and fitted regressions involving the supremum of the standardized residuals, the sample size, and the estimated Poisson mean. Simulation results indicate that the tests have good level stability and appreciable power against competing compound Poisson distributions of a mixed type.  相似文献

Abstract

This paper investigates the parameter-change tests for a class of observation-driven models for count time series. We propose two cumulative sum (CUSUM) test procedures for detection of changes in model parameters. Under regularity conditions, the asymptotic null distributions of the test statistics are established. In addition, the integer-valued generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedastic (INGARCH) processes with conditional negative binomial distributions are investigated. The developed techniques are examined through simulation studies and also are illustrated using an empirical example.  相似文献

Trend tests in dose-response have been central problems in medicine. The likelihood ratio test is often used to test hypotheses involving a stochastic order. Stratified contingency tables are common in practice. The distribution theory of likelihood ratio test has not been full developed for stratified tables and more than two stochastically ordered distributions. Under c strata of m × r tables, for testing the conditional independence against simple stochastic order alternative, this article introduces a model-free test method and gives the asymptotic distribution of the test statistic, which is a chi-bar-squared distribution. A real data set concerning an ordered stratified table will be used to show the validity of this test method.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we consider testing the homogeneity of risk differences in independent binomial distributions especially when data are sparse. We point out some drawback of existing tests in either controlling a nominal size or obtaining powers through theoretical and numerical studies. The proposed test is designed to avoid the drawbacks of existing tests. We present the asymptotic null distribution and asymptotic power function for the proposed test. We also provide numerical studies including simulations and real data examples showing the proposed test has reliable results compared to existing testing procedures.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article, we investigate the tail propertiesof the generalized Maxwell distribution and gain an asymptoticbehavior of its Mills-type ratio. Meanwhile, we show two applications. The first application thinks about the asymptotic property of the ratio of density functions and the ratio of the tails of the generalized Maxwell and classical Maxwell distributions. Another application obtains the asymptotic distribution of the partial maximum of an independent and identically distributed sequence from the distribution.  相似文献

Previously proposed linear signed rank tests for multivariate location are not invariant under linear transformations of the observations, The asymptotic relative efficiencies of the tests 2 with respect to Hotelling's T2test depend on the direction of shift and the covariance matrix of the alternative distributions. For distributions with highly correlated components, the efficiencies of some of these tests can be arbitrarily low; they approach zero for certain multivariate normal alternatives, This article proposes a transformation of the data to be performed prior to standard linear signed rank tests, The resulting procedures have attractive power and efficiency properties compared to the original tests, In particular, for elliptically symmetric contiguous alternafives, the efficiencies of the new tests equal those of corresponding univariate linear signed rank tests with respect to the t test.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a simple method of constructing confidence intervals for a function of binomial success probabilities and for a function of Poisson means. The method involves finding an approximate fiducial quantity (FQ) for the parameters of interest. A FQ for a function of several parameters can be obtained by substitution. For the binomial case, the fiducial approach is illustrated for constructing confidence intervals for the relative risk and the ratio of odds. Fiducial inferential procedures are also provided for estimating functions of several Poisson parameters. In particular, fiducial inferential approach is illustrated for interval estimating the ratio of two Poisson means and for a weighted sum of several Poisson means. Simple approximations to the distributions of the FQs are also given for some problems. The merits of the procedures are evaluated by comparing them with those of existing asymptotic methods with respect to coverage probabilities, and in some cases, expected widths. Comparison studies indicate that the fiducial confidence intervals are very satisfactory, and they are comparable or better than some available asymptotic methods. The fiducial method is easy to use and is applicable to find confidence intervals for many commonly used summary indices. Some examples are used to illustrate and compare the results of fiducial approach with those of other available asymptotic methods.  相似文献

For comparing two competing testing procedures whose power functions cannot be calculated exactly, the Pitman asymptotic relative efficiency is commonly used. This measure offers the advantages of simplicity in computation and interpretation, but is asymptotic in nature. In particular, it cannot distinguish between certain pairs of tests, namely, those with an asymptotic relative efficiency of 1. In this paper, we offer an alternative basis for making finite sample comparisons between tests judged asymptotically equally efficient. The criteria for comparison is based on the ratio of efficacies. Using this new criterion, we consider a series of examples in which two tests with an ARE of 1 are compared for finite n. In each case, either exact or simulated power curves are used to evaluate the effectiveness of this criterion in properly discriminating between the competing test procedures. Lastly, conditions are specified where the proposed criterion should be most effective.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The class of stable distributions plays a central role in the study of asymptotic behavior of normalized partial sums, the same role performed by normal distribution among those with finite second moment. In this note, by exploiting the connection between stable laws and regularly varying functions, we present weighted similarity tests for stable location-scale families. The proposed weight functions are based on the 2nd-order Mallows distance between the empirical distribution and the root stable distribution. And the resulting statistics converge weakly to functionals of Brownian bridge.  相似文献

Abstract

For a discrete‐time closed cyclic network of single server queues whose service rates are non‐decreasing in the queue length, we compute the queue‐length distribution at each node in terms of throughputs of related networks. For the asymptotic analysis, we consider sequences of networks where the number of nodes grows to infinity, service rates are taken only from a fixed finite set of non‐decreasing sequences, the ratio of customers to nodes has a limit, and the proportion of nodes for each possible service‐rate sequence has a limit. Under these assumptions, the asymptotic throughput exists and is calculated explicitly. Furthermore, the asymptotic queue‐length distribution at any node can be obtained in terms of the asymptotic throughput. The asymptotic throughput, regarded as a function of the limiting customer‐to‐node ratio, is strictly increasing for ratios up to a threshold value (possibly infinite) and is constant thereafter. For ratios less than the threshold, the asymptotic queue‐length distribution at each node has finite moments of all orders. However, at or above the threshold, bottlenecks (nodes with asymptotically‐infinite mean queue length) do occur, and we completely characterize such nodes.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper examines the asymptotic and finite-sample properties of tests of equal forecast accuracy and encompassing applied to direct, multistep predictions from nested regression models. We first derive asymptotic distributions; these nonstandard distributions depend on the parameters of the data-generating process. We then use Monte Carlo simulations to examine finite-sample size and power. Our asymptotic approximation yields good size and power properties for some, but not all, of the tests; a bootstrap works reasonably well for all tests. The paper concludes with a reexamination of the predictive content of capacity utilization for inflation.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper is to use Bahadur's asymptotic relative efficiency measure to compare the performance of various tests of autoregressive (AR) versus moving average (MA) error processes in regression models. Tests to be examined include non-nested procedures of the models against each other, and classical procedures based upon testing both the AR and MA error processes against the more general autoregressive-moving average model.  相似文献
