In this paper, we introduce a new distribution, called generalized Gudermannian (GG) distribution, and its skew extension for GARCH models in modelling daily Value-at-Risk (VaR). Basic structural properties of the proposed distribution are obtained including probability density and cumulative distribution functions, moments, and stochastic representation. The maximum likelihood method is used to estimate unknown parameters of the proposed model and finite sample performance of maximum likelihood estimates are evaluated by means of Monte-Carlo simulation study. The real data application on Nikkei 225 index is given to demonstrate the performance of GARCH model specified under skew extension of GG innovation distribution against normal, Student's-t, skew normal and generalized error and skew generalized error distributions in terms of the accuracy of VaR forecasts. The empirical results show that the GARCH model with GG innovation distribution produces the most accurate VaR forecasts for all confidence levels.  相似文献

We present a new generalized family of skew two-piece skew-elliptical (GSTPSE) models and derive some its statistical properties. It is shown that the new family of distribution may be written as a mixture of generalized skew elliptical distributions. Also, a new representation theorem for a special case of GSTPSE-distribution is given. Next, we will focus on t kernel density and prove that it is a scale mixture of the generalized skew two-piece skew normal distributions. An explicit expression for the central moments as well as a recurrence relations for its cumulative distribution function and density are obtained. Since, this special case is a uni-/bimodal distribution, a sufficient condition for each cases is given. A real data set on heights of Australian females athletes is analysed. Finally, some concluding remarks and open problems are discussed.  相似文献

A class of power series skew normal distributions is introduced by generalizing the geometric skew normal distribution of Kundu. Various mathematical properties are derived and estimation addressed by the method of maximum likelihood. The data application of Kundu [Sankhyā B, 76, 2014, 167–189] is revisited and the proposed class is shown to provide a better fit.  相似文献

The Azzalini [A. Azzalini, A class of distributions which includes the normal ones, Scandi. J. Statist. 12 (1985), pp. 171–178.] skew normal model can be viewed as one involving normal components subject to a single linear constraint. As a natural extension of this model, we discuss skewed models involving multiple linear and nonlinear constraints and possibly non-normal components. Particular attention is devoted to a distribution called the extended two-piece normal (ETN) distribution. This model is a two-constraint extension of the two-piece normal model introduced by Kim [H.J. Kim, On a class of two-piece skew normal distributions, Statistics 39(6) (2005), pp. 537–553.]. Likelihood inference for the ETN distribution is developed and illustrated using two data sets.  相似文献

This work presents a new linear calibration model with replication by assuming that the error of the model follows a skew scale mixture of the normal distributions family, which is a class of asymmetric thick-tailed distributions that includes the skew normal distribution and symmetric distributions. In the literature, most calibration models assume that the errors are normally distributed. However, the normal distribution is not suitable when there are atypical observations and asymmetry. The estimation of the calibration model parameters are done numerically by the EM algorithm. A simulation study is carried out to verify the properties of the maximum likelihood estimators. This new approach is applied to a real dataset from a chemical analysis.  相似文献

This paper focuses on the distribution of the skew normal sample mean. For a random sample drawn from a skew normal population, we derive the density function and the moment generating function of the sample mean. The density function derived can be used for statistical inference on the disease occurrence time of twins in epidemiology, in which the skew normal model plays a key role.  相似文献

Azzalini and Dalla Valle have recently discussed the multivariate skew normal distribution which extends the class of normal distributions by the addition of a shape parameter. The first part of the present paper examines further probabilistic properties of the distribution, with special emphasis on aspects of statistical relevance. Inferential and other statistical issues are discussed in the following part, with applications to some multivariate statistics problems, illustrated by numerical examples. Finally, a further extension is described which introduces a skewing factor of an elliptical density.  相似文献

This paper studies the case where the observations come from a unimodal and skew density function with an unknown mode. The skew-symmetric representation of such a density has a symmetric component which can be written as a scale mixture of uniform densities. A Dirichlet process (DP) prior is assigned to mixing distribution. We also assume prior distributions for the mode and the skewed component. A computational approach is used to obtain the Bayes estimate of the components. An example is given to illustrate the approach.  相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a new distribution, called the alpha-skew generalized normal (ASGN), for GARCH models in modeling daily Value-at-Risk (VaR). Basic structural properties of the proposed distribution are derived including probability and cumulative density functions, moments and stochastic representation. The real data application based on ISE-100 index is given to show the performance of GARCH model specified under ASGN innovation distribution with respect to normal, Student’s-t, skew normal and generalized normal models in terms of the VaR accuracy. The empirical results show that GARCH model with ASGN innovation distribution generates the most accurate VaR forecasts for all confidence levels.  相似文献

Skew‐symmetric families of distributions such as the skew‐normal and skew‐t represent supersets of the normal and t distributions, and they exhibit richer classes of extremal behaviour. By defining a non‐stationary skew‐normal process, which allows the easy handling of positive definite, non‐stationary covariance functions, we derive a new family of max‐stable processes – the extremal skew‐t process. This process is a superset of non‐stationary processes that include the stationary extremal‐t processes. We provide the spectral representation and the resulting angular densities of the extremal skew‐t process and illustrate its practical implementation.  相似文献

This paper introduces a new class of skew distributions by extending the alpha skew normal distribution proposed by Elal-Olivero [Elal-Olivero, D. Alpha-skew-normal distribution. Proyecciones. 2010;29:224–240]. Statistical properties of the new family are studied in details. In particular, explicit expressions for the moments and the shape parameters including the skewness and the kurtosis coefficients and the moment generating function are derived. The problem of estimating parameters on the basis of a random sample coming from the new class of distribution is considered. To examine the performance of the obtained estimators, a Monte Carlo simulation study is conducted. Flexibility and usefulness of the proposed family of distributions are illustrated by analysing three real data sets.  相似文献

A multimodal skewed extension of normal distribution is proposed by applying the general method as in [Huang WJ, Chen YH. Generalized skew-Cauchy distribution. Stat Probab Lett. 2007;77:1137–1147] for the construction of skew-symmetric distributions by using a trigonometric periodic skew function. Some of its distributional properties are investigated. Properties of maximum likelihood estimation of the parameters are studied numerically by simulation. The suitability of the proposed distribution in empirical data modelling is investigated by carrying out comparative fitting of two real-life data sets.  相似文献

In this work, first some distributional properties of extended two-piece skew normal distributions are presented. Next we revisit the special case, that is two-piece skew normal distributions. Then two distributions related to two-piece skew normal distributions are studied. More precisely, we give some properties about generalized half normal distributions as well as a generalized Cauchy distribution. Finally, we discuss the distributions of linear combinations of two independent skew normal random variables.  相似文献

A special source of difficulty in the statistical analysis is the possibility that some subjects may not have a complete observation of the response variable. Such incomplete observation of the response variable is called censoring. Censorship can occur for a variety of reasons, including limitations of measurement equipment, design of the experiment, and non-occurrence of the event of interest until the end of the study. In the presence of censoring, the dependence of the response variable on the explanatory variables can be explored through regression analysis. In this paper, we propose to examine the censorship problem in context of the class of asymmetric, i.e., we have proposed a linear regression model with censored responses based on skew scale mixtures of normal distributions. We develop a Monte Carlo EM (MCEM) algorithm to perform maximum likelihood inference of the parameters in the proposed linear censored regression models with skew scale mixtures of normal distributions. The MCEM algorithm has been discussed with an emphasis on the skew-normal, skew Student-t-normal, skew-slash and skew-contaminated normal distributions. To examine the performance of the proposed method, we present some simulation studies and analyze a real dataset.  相似文献

We give sufficient identifiability conditions for estimating mixing proportions in two‐component mixtures of skew normal distributions with one known component. We consider the univariate case and two multivariate extensions: a multivariate skew normal distribution (MSN) and the canonical fundamental skew normal distribution (CFUSN). The characteristic function of the CFUSN distribution is additionally derived.  相似文献

We propose data generating structures which can be represented as the nonlinear autoregressive models with single and finite mixtures of scale mixtures of skew normal innovations. This class of models covers symmetric/asymmetric and light/heavy-tailed distributions, so provide a useful generalization of the symmetrical nonlinear autoregressive models. As semiparametric and nonparametric curve estimation are the approaches for exploring the structure of a nonlinear time series data set, in this article the semiparametric estimator for estimating the nonlinear function of the model is investigated based on the conditional least square method and nonparametric kernel approach. Also, an Expectation–Maximization-type algorithm to perform the maximum likelihood (ML) inference of unknown parameters of the model is proposed. Furthermore, some strong and weak consistency of the semiparametric estimator in this class of models are presented. Finally, to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed model, some simulation studies and an application to real data set are considered.  相似文献

Abstract. The entropy and mutual information index are important concepts developed by Shannon in the context of information theory. They have been widely studied in the case of the multivariate normal distribution. We first extend these tools to the full symmetric class of multivariate elliptical distributions and then to the more flexible families of multivariate skew‐elliptical distributions. We study in detail the cases of the multivariate skew‐normal and skew‐t distributions. We implement our findings to the application of the optimal design of an ozone monitoring station network in Santiago de Chile.  相似文献

Skew scale mixtures of normal distributions are often used for statistical procedures involving asymmetric data and heavy-tailed. The main virtue of the members of this family of distributions is that they are easy to simulate from and they also supply genuine expectation-maximization (EM) algorithms for maximum likelihood estimation. In this paper, we extend the EM algorithm for linear regression models and we develop diagnostics analyses via local influence and generalized leverage, following Zhu and Lee's approach. This is because Cook's well-known approach cannot be used to obtain measures of local influence. The EM-type algorithm has been discussed with an emphasis on the skew Student-t-normal, skew slash, skew-contaminated normal and skew power-exponential distributions. Finally, results obtained for a real data set are reported, illustrating the usefulness of the proposed method.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In 2007, Domínguez-Molina et al. obtained the moment generating function (mgf) of the matrix variate closed skew normal distribution. In this paper, we use their mgf to obtain the first two moments and some additional properties of quadratic forms for the matrix variate skew normal distributions. The quadratic forms are particularly interesting because they are essentially correlation tests that introduce a new type of orthogonality condition.  相似文献

The skew t-distribution includes both the skew normal and the normal distributions as special cases. Inference for the skew t-model becomes problematic in these cases because the expected information matrix is singular and the parameter corresponding to the degrees of freedom takes a value at the boundary of its parameter space. In particular, the distributions of the likelihood ratio statistics for testing the null hypotheses of skew normality and normality are not asymptotically \(\chi ^2\). The asymptotic distributions of the likelihood ratio statistics are considered by applying the results of Self and Liang (J Am Stat Assoc 82:605–610, 1987) for boundary-parameter inference in terms of reparameterizations designed to remove the singularity of the information matrix. The Self–Liang asymptotic distributions are mixtures, and it is shown that their accuracy can be improved substantially by correcting the mixing probabilities. Furthermore, although the asymptotic distributions are non-standard, versions of Bartlett correction are developed that afford additional accuracy. Bootstrap procedures for estimating the mixing probabilities and the Bartlett adjustment factors are shown to produce excellent approximations, even for small sample sizes.  相似文献
