Abstract

In this paper, a change-point linear model with randomly censored data is investigated. We propose the least absolute deviation estimation procedure for regression and change-point parameters simultaneously. The asymptotic properties of the change-point and regression parameter estimators are obtained. We show that the resulting regression parameter estimator is asymptotically normal, and the change-point estimator converges weakly to the minimizer of a given random process. The extensive simulation studies and the analysis of an acute myocardial infarction data set are conducted to illustrate the finite sample performance of the proposed method.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, we propose a more general criterion called Sp -criterion, for subset selection in the multiple linear regression Model. Many subset selection methods are based on the Least Squares (LS) estimator of β, but whenever the data contain an influential observation or the distribution of the error variable deviates from normality, the LS estimator performs ‘poorly’ and hence a method based on this estimator (for example, Mallows’ Cp -criterion) tends to select a ‘wrong’ subset. The proposed method overcomes this drawback and its main feature is that it can be used with any type of estimator (either the LS estimator or any robust estimator) of β without any need for modification of the proposed criterion. Moreover, this technique is operationally simple to implement as compared to other existing criteria. The method is illustrated with examples.  相似文献

Abstract

For the restricted parameter space (0,1), we propose Zhang’s loss function which satisfies all the 7 properties for a good loss function on (0,1). We then calculate the Bayes rule (estimator), the posterior expectation, the integrated risk, and the Bayes risk of the parameter in (0,1) under Zhang’s loss function. We also calculate the usual Bayes estimator under the squared error loss function, and the Bayes estimator has been proved to underestimate the Bayes estimator under Zhang’s loss function. Finally, the numerical simulations and a real data example of some monthly magazine exposure data exemplify our theoretical studies of two size relationships about the Bayes estimators and the Posterior Expected Zhang’s Losses (PEZLs).  相似文献

Abstract

We consider statistical inference for additive partial linear models when the linear covariate is measured with error. A bias-corrected spline-backfitted kernel smoothing method is proposed. Under mild assumptions, the proposed component function and parameter estimator are oracally efficient and fast to compute. The nonparametric function estimator’s pointwise distribution is asymptotically equivalent to an function estimator in partial linear model. Finite-sample performance of the proposed estimators is assessed by simulation experiments. The proposed methods are applied to Boston house data set.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We propose a semiparametric approach to estimate the existence and location of a statistical change-point to a nonlinear multivariate time series contaminated with an additive noise component. In particular, we consider a p-dimensional stochastic process of independent multivariate normal observations where the mean function varies smoothly except at a single change-point. Our approach involves conducting a Bayesian analysis on the empirical detail coefficients of the original time series after a wavelet transform. If the mean function of our time series can be expressed as a multivariate step function, we find our Bayesian-wavelet method performs comparably with classical parametric methods such as maximum likelihood estimation. The advantage of our multivariate change-point method is seen in how it applies to a much larger class of mean functions that require only general smoothness conditions.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a new technique for constructing confidence intervals for the mean of a noisy sequence with multiple change-points. We use the weighted bootstrap to generalize the bootstrap aggregating or bagging estimator. A standard deviation formula for the bagging estimator is introduced, based on which smoothed confidence intervals are constructed. To further improve the performance of the smoothed interval for weak signals, we suggest a strategy of adaptively choosing between the percentile intervals and the smoothed intervals. A new intensity plot is proposed to visualize the pattern of the change-points. We also propose a new change-point estimator based on the intensity plot, which has superior performance in comparison with the state-of-the-art segmentation methods. The finite sample performance of the confidence intervals and the change-point estimator are evaluated through Monte Carlo studies and illustrated with a real data example.  相似文献

We suggest and compare two multiple change-point algorithms (segmentation and sequential) for accurate detection of the onset of abrupt leaks in blended underground storage tanks. We apply these algorithms to two simulated scenarios to demonstrate the advantages of the sequential algorithm, and then we apply the sequential algorithm to the Cary blended site data. In addition, we obtain a confidence set for the locations of the change points conditional on the number of change points by inverting the related hypothesis test.  相似文献

An Ornstein–Uhlenbeck (OU) process is employed as a versatile model to capture the mean-reverting and stochastic evolution of many variables in various fields of applications including finance and economics. Within the OU setting, we develop a new estimation method to determine the unknown change-point location under the assumption that the volatilities before and after the change point in a time series are unequal. Our method hinges on the concept of a weighted least sum of squared errors approach and enhanced by a fusion of an iterative algorithm. The consistency of the change-point estimator is established. This article highlights a numerical implementation on simulated and observed financial market data demonstrating the significant flexibility and accuracy of our proposed modelling and estimation method. ABSTRACT

This article considers the problem of a mean change-point in heavy-tailed dependent observations. A method of change-point estimation by truncating initial process is proposed, which can weaken the affection of outliers. In the infinite variance case, we obtained a generalization Hájek-Rényi type inequality. Consistency and the rate of convergence for the estimated change-point are also established. The results of a simulation study support validity of our method.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We propose an extension of parametric product partition models. We name our proposal nonparametric product partition models because we associate a random measure instead of a parametric kernel to each set within a random partition. Our methodology does not impose any specific form on the marginal distribution of the observations, allowing us to detect shifts of behaviour even when dealing with heavy-tailed or skewed distributions. We propose a suitable loss function and find the partition of the data having minimum expected loss. We then apply our nonparametric procedure to multiple change-point analysis and compare it with PPMs and with other methodologies that have recently appeared in the literature. Also, in the context of missing data, we exploit the product partition structure in order to estimate the distribution function of each missing value, allowing us to detect change points using the loss function mentioned above. Finally, we present applications to financial as well as genetic data.  相似文献

Consider the simple linear regression problem with right-censored data. The Buckley-James estimator (BJE) (1979) has been considered superior over the other available procedures. So far the existing algorithms fail to present all possible BJE's. In this note, we present a feasible non-iterative algorithm which can find all BJE's. We use the Stanford heart transplant data to show that if we do not find all BJE's (6 BJE's for the data), then the analysis may be misleading as is the case in Buckley and James (1979, p. 435) and in Miller (1981, p. 156). Extension to multiple linear regression is also discussed.  相似文献

We consider a random regression model with several-fold change-points. The results for one change-point are generalized. The maximum likelihood estimator of the parameters is shown to be consistent, and the asymptotic distribution for the estimators of the coefficients is shown to be Gaussian. The estimators of the change-points converge, with n ?1 rate, to the vector whose components are the left end points of the maximizing interval with respect to each change-point. The likelihood process is asymptotically equivalent to the sum of independent compound Poisson processes.  相似文献

Abstract

We propose a unified approach for multilevel sample selection models using a generalized result on skew distributions arising from selection. If the underlying distributional assumption is normal, then the resulting density for the outcome is the continuous component of the sample selection density and has links with the closed skew-normal distribution (CSN). The CSN distribution provides a framework which simplifies the derivation of the conditional expectation of the observed data. This generalizes the Heckman’s two-step method to a multilevel sample selection model. Finite-sample performance of the maximum likelihood estimator of this model is studied through a Monte Carlo simulation.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This article considers linear social interaction models under incomplete information that allow for missing outcome data due to sample selection. For model estimation, assuming that each individual forms his/her belief about the other members’ outcomes based on rational expectations, we propose a two-step series nonlinear least squares estimator. Both the consistency and asymptotic normality of the estimator are established. As an empirical illustration, we apply the proposed model and method to National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health) data to examine the impacts of friendship interactions on adolescents’ academic achievements. We provide empirical evidence that the interaction effects are important determinants of grade point average and that controlling for sample selection bias has certain impacts on the estimation results. ABSTRACT

In economics and government statistics, aggregated data instead of individual level data are usually reported for data confidentiality and for simplicity. In this paper we develop a method of flexibly estimating the probability density function of the population using aggregated data obtained as group averages when individual level data are grouped according to quantile limits. The kernel density estimator has been commonly applied to such data without taking into account the data aggregation process and has been shown to perform poorly. Our method models the quantile function as an integral of the exponential of a spline function and deduces the density function from the quantile function. We match the aggregated data to their theoretical counterpart using least squares, and regularize the estimation by using the squared second derivatives of the density function as the penalty function. A computational algorithm is developed to implement the method. Application to simulated data and US household income survey data show that our penalized spline estimator can accurately recover the density function of the underlying population while the common use of kernel density estimation is severely biased. The method is applied to study the dynamic of China's urban income distribution using published interval aggregated data of 1985–2010.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We study estimation and inference when there are multiple values (“matches”) for the explanatory variables and only one of the matches is the correct one. This problem arises often when two datasets are linked together on the basis of information that does not uniquely identify regressor values. We offer a set of two intuitive conditions that ensure consistent inference using the average of the possible matches in a linear framework. The first condition is the exogeneity of the false match with respect to the regression error. The second condition is a notion of exchangeability between the true and false matches. Conditioning on the observed data, the probability that each match is correct is completely unrestricted. We perform a Monte Carlo study to investigate the estimator’s finite-sample performance relative to others proposed in the literature. Finally, we provide an empirical example revisiting a main area of application: the measurement of intergenerational elasticities in income. Abstract

In this paper, we introduce Liu estimator for the vector of parameters in linear measurement error models and discuss its asymptotic properties. Based on the Liu estimator, diagnostic measures are developed to identify influential observations. Additionally, the analogs of Cook’s distance and likelihood distance are proposed to determine influential observations using case deletion approach. A parametric bootstrap procedure is used to obtain empirical distributions of the test statistics. Finally, the performance of the influence measures have been illustrated through simulation study and analyzing a real data set.  相似文献

Abstract

In this paper, we propose an outlier-detection approach that uses the properties of an intercept estimator in a difference-based regression model (DBRM) that we first introduce. This DBRM uses multiple linear regression, and invented it to detect outliers in a multiple linear regression. Our outlier-detection approach uses only the intercept; it does not require estimates for the other parameters in the DBRM. In this paper, we first employed a difference-based intercept estimator to study the outlier-detection problem in a multiple regression model. We compared our approach with several existing methods in a simulation study and the results suggest that our approach outperformed the others. We also demonstrated the advantage of our approach using a real data application. Our approach can extend to nonparametric regression models for outliers detection.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We propose a new estimator for the spot covariance matrix of a multi-dimensional continuous semimartingale log asset price process, which is subject to noise and nonsynchronous observations. The estimator is constructed based on a local average of block-wise parametric spectral covariance estimates. The latter originate from a local method of moments (LMM), which recently has been introduced by Bibinger et al.. We prove consistency and a point-wise stable central limit theorem for the proposed spot covariance estimator in a very general setup with stochastic volatility, leverage effects, and general noise distributions. Moreover, we extend the LMM estimator to be robust against autocorrelated noise and propose a method to adaptively infer the autocorrelations from the data. Based on simulations we provide empirical guidance on the effective implementation of the estimator and apply it to high-frequency data of a cross-section of Nasdaq blue chip stocks. Employing the estimator to estimate spot covariances, correlations, and volatilities in normal but also unusual periods yields novel insights into intraday covariance and correlation dynamics. We show that intraday (co-)variations (i) follow underlying periodicity patterns, (ii) reveal substantial intraday variability associated with (co-)variation risk, and (iii) can increase strongly and nearly instantaneously if new information arrives. The problem of estimation of parameters in hazard rate change models with a change-point is considered. A change-point estimator using the hazard ratio is suggested and compared with the previously developed change-point estimators. The proposed estimator is shown to be consistent. The performance of the proposed estimator is checked and compared with other change-point estimators via simulation.  相似文献
