ABSTRACT

In this paper, we consider testing the homogeneity of risk differences in independent binomial distributions especially when data are sparse. We point out some drawback of existing tests in either controlling a nominal size or obtaining powers through theoretical and numerical studies. The proposed test is designed to avoid the drawbacks of existing tests. We present the asymptotic null distribution and asymptotic power function for the proposed test. We also provide numerical studies including simulations and real data examples showing the proposed test has reliable results compared to existing testing procedures.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Genetic data are frequently categorical and have complex dependence structures that are not always well understood. For this reason, clustering and classification based on genetic data, while highly relevant, are challenging statistical problems. Here we consider a versatile U-statistics-based approach for non-parametric clustering that allows for an unconventional way of solving these problems. In this paper we propose a statistical test to assess group homogeneity taking into account multiple testing issues and a clustering algorithm based on dissimilarities within and between groups that highly speeds up the homogeneity test. We also propose a test to verify classification significance of a sample in one of two groups. We present Monte Carlo simulations that evaluate size and power of the proposed tests under different scenarios. Finally, the methodology is applied to three different genetic data sets: global human genetic diversity, breast tumour gene expression and Dengue virus serotypes. These applications showcase this statistical framework's ability to answer diverse biological questions in the high dimension low sample size scenario while adapting to the specificities of the different datatypes.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, the testing problem for homogeneity in the mixture exponential family is considered. The model is irregular in the sense that each interest parameter forms a part of the null hypothesis (sub-null hypothesis) and the null hypothesis is the union of the sub-null hypotheses. The generalized likelihood ratio test does not distinguish between the sub-null hypotheses. The Supplementary Score Test is proposed by combining two orthogonalized score tests obtained corresponding to the two sub-null hypotheses after proper reparameterization. The test is easy to design and performs better than the generalized likelihood ratio test and other alternative tests by numerical comparisons.  相似文献

Comparing the variances of several independent samples is a classic problem and many tests have been proposed in the literature. Conover et al. [Conover, W.J., Johnson, M.E. and Johnson, M.M., 1981, A comparative study of tests for homogeneity of variances with applications to the outer continental self bidding data. Technometrics, 23, 351–361.] and Shoemaker [Shoemaker, L.H., 1995, Tests for difference in dispersion based on quantiles. The American Statistician, 49 (2), 179–182.] find that the existing tests lack power for skewed sampling distributions. To address this problem, we studied the effect of an a priori symmetrization of the data on the performance of tests for homogeneity of variances. This article also updates the comprehensive comparative study of Conover et al.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Correlated bilateral data arise from stratified studies involving paired body organs in a subject. When it is desirable to conduct inference on the scale of risk difference, one needs first to assess the assumption of homogeneity in risk differences across strata. For testing homogeneity of risk differences, we herein propose eight methods derived respectively from weighted-least-squares (WLS), the Mantel-Haenszel (MH) estimator, the WLS method in combination with inverse hyperbolic tangent transformation, and the test statistics based on their log-transformation, the modified Score test statistic and Likelihood ratio test statistic. Simulation results showed that four of the tests perform well in general, with the tests based on the WLS method and inverse hyperbolic tangent transformation always performing satisfactorily even under small sample size designs. The methods are illustrated with a dataset.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The display of the data by means of contingency tables is used in different approaches to statistical inference, for example, to broach the test of homogeneity of independent multinomial distributions. We develop a Bayesian procedure to test simple null hypotheses versus bilateral alternatives in contingency tables. Given independent samples of two binomial distributions and taking a mixed prior distribution, we calculate the posterior probability that the proportion of successes in the first population is the same as in the second. This posterior probability is compared with the p-value of the classical method, obtaining a reconciliation between both results, classical and Bayesian. The obtained results are generalized for r × s tables.  相似文献

Three modified tests for homogeneity of the odds ratio for a series of 2 × 2 tables are studied when the data are clustered. In the case of clustered data, the standard tests for homogeneity of odds ratios ignore the variance inflation caused by positive correlation among responses of subjects within the same cluster, and therefore have inflated Type I error. The modified tests adjust for the variance inflation in the three existing standard tests: Breslow–Day, Tarone and the conditional score test. The degree of clustering effect is measured by the intracluster correlation coefficient, ρ. A variance correction factor derived from ρ is then applied to the variance estimator in the standard tests of homogeneity of the odds ratio. The proposed tests are an application of the variance adjustment method commonly used in correlated data analysis and are shown to maintain the nominal significance level in a simulation study. Abstract

This paper is concerned with independence test in high-dimension. A new test statistic is proposed with two terms: one is based on the modified distance correlation statistic, the other is constructed to enhance the power under sparse alternatives. Asymptotic properties of the test statistic are discussed under some regular conditions. The finite-sample simulations exhibit its superiority over some existing procedures. Finally, a real data example illustrates the proposed test.  相似文献

Abstract

A new parametric hypothesis test of mean interval for interval-valued data set, which can deal with massive information contained in nowadays massive data “Big data” sets, is proposed. An approach using an orthogonal transformation is introduced to obtain an equivalent hypothesis test of mean interval in terms of the mid-point and mid-range of the interval-valued variable. The new test is very efficient in small interval-valued sample scenarios. Some simulation studies are conducted for the investigation of the sample size and the power of test. The performance of the proposed test is illustrated with two real-life examples.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This study develops methods for conducting uniform inference on quantile treatment effects for sharp regression discontinuity designs. We develop a score test for the treatment significance hypothesis and Wald-type tests for the hypotheses related to treatment significance, homogeneity, and unambiguity. The bias from the nonparametric estimation is studied in detail. In particular, we show that under some conditions, the asymptotic distribution of the score test is unaffected by the bias, without under-smoothing. For situations where the conditions can be restrictive, we incorporate a bias correction into the Wald tests and account for the estimation uncertainty. We also provide a procedure for constructing uniform confidence bands for quantile treatment effects. As an empirical application, we use the proposed methods to study the effect of cash-on-hand on unemployment duration. The results reveal pronounced treatment heterogeneity and also emphasize the importance of considering the long-term unemployed.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this paper, the maximum value test is proposed and considered for two-sample problem solving with lifetime data. This test is a distribution-free test under non-censoring and is a not distribution-free test under censoring. The formula of the limit distribution of the proposed maximal value test is represented in the general case. The distribution of the test statistic has been studied experimentally. Also, we propose the estimate of a p-value calculation of the maximum value test instead of the Monte-Carlo simulation. This test is useful and applicable in case of choosing among the logrank test, the Cox–Mantel test, the Q test and Generalized Wilcoxon tests, for instance, the Gehan's Generalized Wilcoxon test and the Peto and Peto's Generalized Wilcoxon test.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

A simple and efficient goodness-of-fit test for exponentiality is developed by exploiting the characterization of the exponential distribution using the probability integral transformation. We adopted the empirical likelihood methodology in constructing the test statistic. The proposed test statistic has a chi-square limiting distribution. For small to moderate sample sizes Monte-Carlo simulations revealed that our proposed tests are much more superior under increasing failure rate (IFR) and bathtub decreasing-increasing failure rate (BFR) alternatives. Real data examples were used to demonstrate the robustness and applicability of our proposed tests in practice.  相似文献

Abstract

Goodness-of-fit testing is addressed in the stratified proportional hazards model for survival data. A test statistic based on within-strata cumulative sums of martingale residuals over covariates is proposed and its asymptotic distribution is derived under the null hypothesis of model adequacy. A Monte Carlo procedure is proposed to approximate the critical value of the test. Simulation studies are conducted to examine finite-sample performance of the proposed statistic.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Many times, a product lifetime can be described through a non negative integer valued random variable. In this article, we propose a proportional hazards model for discrete data analogous to the version for continuous data. Some ageing properties of the model are discussed. Stochastic comparison of pair of random variables that follow the model are also made. A new test based on U-statistics is developed for testing that the proportionality parameter in the proposed model is 1. The asymptotic properties of the proposed test are studied. We present some numerical results to asses the performance of the test procedure.  相似文献

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to propose an efficient estimation procedure in a marginal mean regression model for longitudinal count data and to develop a hypothesis test for detecting the presence of overdispersion. We extend the matrix expansion idea of quadratic inference functions to the negative binomial regression framework that entails accommodating both the within-subject correlation and overdispersion issue. Theoretical and numerical results show that the proposed procedure yields a more efficient estimator asymptotically than the one ignoring either the within-subject correlation or overdispersion. When the overdispersion is absent in data, the proposed method might hinder the estimation efficiency in practice, yet the Poisson regression based regression model is fitted to the data sufficiently well. Therefore, we construct the hypothesis test that recommends an appropriate model for the analysis of the correlated count data. Extensive simulation studies indicate that the proposed test can identify the effective model consistently. The proposed procedure is also applied to a transportation safety study and recommends the proposed negative binomial regression model.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We consider semiparametric inference on the partially linearsingle-index model (PLSIM). The generalized likelihood ratio (GLR) test is proposed to examine whether or not a family of new semiparametric models fits adequately our given data in the PLSIM. A new GLR statistic is established to deal with the testing of the index parameter α0 in the PLSIM. The newly proposed statistic is shown to asymptotically follow a χ2-distribution with the scale constant and the degrees of freedom being independent of the nuisance parameters or function. Some finite sample simulations and a real example are used to illustrate our proposed methodology.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Simplex regression model is often employed to analyze continuous proportion data in many studies. In this paper, we extend the assumption of a constant dispersion parameter (homogeneity) to varying dispersion parameter (heterogeneity) in Simplex regression model, and present the B-spline to approximate the smoothing unknown function within the Bayesian framework. A hybrid algorithm combining the block Gibbs sampler and the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm is presented for sampling observations from the posterior distribution. The procedures for computing model comparison criteria such as conditional predictive ordinate statistic, deviance information criterion, and averaged mean squared error are presented. Also, we develop a computationally feasible Bayesian case-deletion influence measure based on the Kullback-Leibler divergence. Several simulation studies and a real example are employed to illustrate the proposed methodologies.  相似文献

Suppose that an order restriction is imposed among several p-variate normal mean vectors. We are interested in the problems of estimating these mean vectors and testing their homogeneity under this restriction. These problems are multivariate extensions of Bartholomew's (1959) ones. For the bivariate case, these problems have been studied by Sasabuchi et al. (1983) and (1998) and some others. In the present paper we examine the convergence of an iterative algorithm for computing the maximum likelihood estimator when p is larger than two. We also study some test procedures for testing homogeneity when p is larger than two.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The Mack–Wolfe test is the most frequently used non parametric procedure for the umbrella alternative problem. In this paper, modifications of the Mack–Wolfe test are proposed for both known peak and unknown peak umbrellas. The exact mean and variance of the proposed tests in the null hypothesis are also derived. We compare these tests with some of the existing tests in terms of the type I error rate and power. In addition, a real data example is presented.  相似文献

Abstract

The problem of testing equality of two multivariate normal covariance matrices is considered. Assuming that the incomplete data are of monotone pattern, a quantity similar to the Likelihood Ratio Test Statistic is proposed. A satisfactory approximation to the distribution of the quantity is derived. Hypothesis testing based on the approximate distribution is outlined. The merits of the test are investigated using Monte Carlo simulation. Monte Carlo studies indicate that the test is very satisfactory even for moderately small samples. The proposed methods are illustrated using an example.  相似文献
