A nest with parameters (r,k,λ)→(r′,k′,λ′) is a BIBD on (b,v,r,k,λ) where each block has a distinguished sublock of cardinality k, the sublocks forming a (b,v,r,k,λ)-design.These designs are ‘nested’ in the sense of W.T. Federer (1972), who recommended the use of these designs for the sequential addition of periods in marketing experiments in order to retain Youden design properties as rows are added. Note that for a Youden design, the b columns and v treatments are in an SBIBD arrangement with parameters v=b, k=r, and λ.  相似文献

A Balanced Incomplete Block Design (BIBD) is a pair (V, B) where V is a v-set and B is a collection of b k-subsets of V, called blocks, such that every element of V occurs in exactly r of the k-subsets and every 2-subset of V occurs in exactly λ of the blocks. The number of non-isomorphic designs of a BIBD (22, 44, 14, 7, 4) whose automorphism group is divisible by 7 or 11 are investigated. From this work, results are obtained on the number of non-isomorphic BIBDs (15, 42, 14, 5, 4).  相似文献

Bose and Clatworthy (1955) showed that the parameters of a two-class balanced incomplete block design with λ1=1,λ2=0 and satisfying r <k can be expressed in terms of just three parameters r,k,t. Later Bose (1963) showed that such a design is a partial geometry (r,k,t). Bose, Shrikhande and Singhi (1976) have defined partial geometric designs (r,k,t,c), which reduce to partial geometries when c=0. In this note we prove that any two class partially balanced (PBIB) design with r <k, is a partial geometric design for suitably chosen r,k,t,c and express the parameters of the PBIB design in terms of r,k,t,c and λ2. We also show that such PBIB designs belong to the class of special partially balanced designs (SPBIB) studied by Bridges and Shrikhande (1974).  相似文献

Sufficient conditions are derived for the determination of E-optimal designs in the class D(v,b1,b2,k1,k2) of incomplete block designs for v treatments in b1 blocks of size k1 each and b2 blocks of size k2 each. Some constructions for E-optimal designs that satisfy the sufficient conditions obtained here are given. In particular, it is shown that E-optimal designs in D(v,b1,b2,k1,k2) can be constructed by augmenting b2 blocks, with k2k1 extra plots each, of a BIBD(v,b = b1 + b2,k1,λ) and GDD(v,b = b1 + b2,k1,λ1,λ2). It is also shown that equireplicate E-optimal designs in D(v,b1,b2,k1,k2) can be constructed by combining disjoint blocks of BIBD(v,b,k1,λ) and GDD(v,b,k1,λ1,λ2) into larger blocks. As applications of the construction techniques, several infinite series of E-optimal designs with small block sizes differing by at most two are given. Lower bounds for the A-efficiency are derived and it is found that A-efficiency exceeds 99% for v ⩾ 10, and at least 97.5% for 5 ⩽v < 10.  相似文献

Generalized Bhaskar Rao designs with non-zero elements from an abelian group G are constructed. In particular this paper shows that the necessary conditions are sufficient for the existence of generalized Bhaskar Rao designs with k=3 for the following groups: ?G? is odd, G=Zr2, and G=Zr2×H where 3? ?H? and r?1. It also constructs generalized Bhaskar Rao designs with υ=k, which is equivalent to υ rows of a generalized Hadamard matrix of order n where υ?n.  相似文献

Let D(υ, k, λ) be a symmetric design containing a symmetric design D1(υ1, k1, λ1) (k1 < k) and let x = υ1(k ? k1)/(υ ? υ1). We show that k ≥(k1 ? x)2 + λ If equality holds, D1 is called a tight subdesign of D. In the special case, λ1 = λ, the inequality reduces to that of R.C. Bose and S.S. Shrikhande and tight subdesigns then correspond to their notion of Baer subdesigns. The possibilities for (7upsi;, k, λ) designs having Baer subdesigns are investigated.  相似文献

Given any affine design with parameters v, b, r, k, λ and μ = k2/v and any design with parameters v′, b′, r′, k′, λ′ where r′ = tr for some natural number `t and k′?r, we construct a group divisible design with parameters v′' = vv′, m = v′, n = v, b′' = vb′, k′' = kk′, r′'= kr′, λ1 = tkλ and λ2 = μλ′. This is applied to some series of designs. As a lemma, we also show that any 0-1-matrix with row sums tr and column sums ?r may be written as the sum of r 0-1-matrices with row sums t and column sums ?1.  相似文献

In the first part of this paper, we give a short and direct construction of signed orthogonal array SOA(λ,t,k,v), for any set of parameters λ,t,k,v,tk. We also construct a specific basis of the Z-module generated by any SOA(0,t,k,v), for any t,k,v,tk. We will then construct an inite family of large set of disjoint ordered designs by applying G.B. In Butler (1984a) a semi-translation block was defined and a classification given of all symmetric 2-(υ,k,λ) designs with λ>1, which contain more than one such block. In this paper we consider symmetric designs of type V and VI. We show that symmetric designs of type V are also of type VI, and in addition we show that all such designs can be obtained from a Pn,q by a construction which we give. Finally examples of proper symmetric designs of type V which are not of type VI are given.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a general construction of group divisible designs and rectangular designs by utilising resolvable and “almost resolvable” balanced incomplete block designs. As special cases, we obtain the following E-optimal designs: (a) Group divisible (GD) designs with λ2=λ1+1 and (b) Rectangular designs with 2 rows and having λ3=λ2−1=λ1+1. Many of the GD designs are optimal among binary designs with regard to all type 1 criteria.  相似文献

When the necessary conditions for a BIBD are satisfied, but no BIBD exists, there is no simple answer for the optimal design problem. This paper identifies the E-optimal information matrices for any such irregular BIBD setting when the number of treatments is no larger than 100. A- and D-optimal designs are typically not E-optimal. An E-optimal design for 15 treatments in 21 blocks of size 5 is found.  相似文献

A design is said to be super-simple if the intersection of any two blocks has at most two elements. In statistical planning of experiments, super-simple designs are the ones providing samples with maximum intersection as small as possible. Super-simple GDDs are useful in constructing super-simple BIBDs. The existence of super-simple (4,λ)‐GDDs has been determined for λ=2-6. In this paper, we investigate the existence of a super-simple (4,9)-GDD of group type gu and show that such a design exists if and only if u≥4, g(u−2)≥18 and u(u−1)g2≡0 (mod 4).  相似文献

Two methods to select columns for assigning factors to work on supersaturated designs are proposed. The focus of interest is the degree of non-orthogonality between the selected columns. One method is the exhaustive enumeration of selections of p columns from all k columns to find the exact optimality, while the other is intended to find an approximate solution by applying techniques used in the corresponding analysis, aiming for ease of use as well as a reduction in the large computing time required for large k with the first method. Numerical illustrations for several typical design matrices reveal that the resulting “approximately” optimal assignments of factors to their columns are exactly optimal for any p. Ordering the columns in E(s2)-optimal designs results in promising new findings including a large number of E(s2)-optimal designs.  相似文献

For given positive integers v, b, and k (all of them ≥2) a block design is a k × b array of the variety labels 1,…,v with blocks as columns. For the usual one-way heterogeneity model in standard form the problem is studied of finding a D-optimal block design for estimating the variety contrasts, when no balanced block design (BBD) exists. The paper presents solutions to this problem for v≤6. The results on D-optimality are derived from a graph-theoretic context. Block designs can be considered as multigraphs, and a block design is D-optimal iff its multigraph has greatest complexity (=number of spanning trees).  相似文献

The m-associate triangular association scheme has been discussed, and several series of partially balanced incomplete block (PBIB) designs with m-associate triangular association scheme have been obtained in Section 1. In Section 2, an m-associate triangular-group divisible association scheme (TqGDm, 1<q<m) has been introduced and several series of PBIB designs with m-associate triangular group divisible association scheme, from m-associate triangular PBIB designs have been constructed. Some numerical values to the three associate triangular designs, and three associate triangular group divisible designs in the range b, v≦100; r, k≦10, with their average efficiencies are given, respectively, in Tables I and II, in Section 3, where as usual v denotes the number of treatments, b the number of blocks, r the number of replications of each treatment, and k the block size.  相似文献

Neighbour balance and evenness of distribution designs help to address user concerns in the two‐dimensional layout of agricultural field trials. This is done by minimising the occurrence of pairwise treatment plot neighbours and ensuring that the replications of treatments are spread out across rows and columns of a trial. Such considerations result in a restriction on the normal randomisation process for a row‐column design which can lead to error variance bias. In this paper, uniformity trial data is used to assess the degree of this bias for both resolvable and non‐resolvable designs. Comparisons are made with a similar investigation using Linear Variance spatial designs.  相似文献

The efficient design of experiments for comparing a control with v new treatments when the data are dependent is investigated. We concentrate on generalized least-squares estimation for a known covariance structure. We consider block sizes k equal to 3 or 4 and approximate designs. This method may lead to exact optimal designs for some v, b, k, but usually will only indicate the structure of an efficient design for any particular v, b, k, and yield an efficiency bound, usually unattainable. The bound and the structure can then be used to investigate efficient finite designs.  相似文献

Neighbor balance designs were first introduced by Rees (1967) in circular blocks for the use in serological research. Subsequently several researchers have defined the neighbor designs in different ways. In this paper, neighbor balance circular designs for (kv) block size are constructed for even number of treatments i.e. v=2n. No such series of designs is known in literature. Two theorems are developed for circular designs. Theorem 1 gives the non-binary circular blocks, whereas Theorem 2 generates binary circular blocks when n≤4 and non-binary blocks for n>4. In suggested designs no treatment is ever a neighbor of itself. Blocks are constructed in such a way that each treatment is a right and left neighbor of every other treatment for a fixed number of times say λ. Sizes of initial circular blocks are not same. One main guiding principle for such designs is to ensure economy in material use.  相似文献

We construct complete designs with parameters v(?7), k=3, λ=v ? 2 which contain a block of maximal multiplicity and with support size b1 = (v3) ? 4(v ? 2). Any complete design which contains such a block, and has parameters v, k, λ as above, must be supported on at most (v3) ? 4(v ? 2) blocks. Known series of balanced incomplete block designs with nested rows and columns are used to find orthogonal sets of these designs, producing main effects plans in nested rows and columns. Two infinite series are so constructed and shown to be universally optimum for the analysis with recovery of row and column information, a benefit produced by the additional higher strata orthogonality they enjoy. One of these series achieves orthogonality with just v − 1 replicates of v treatments, fewer than required by Latin squares.  相似文献
