Copula models describe the dependence structure of two random variables separately from their marginal distributions and hence are particularly useful in studying the association for bivariate survival data. Semiparametric inference for bivariate survival data based on copula models has been studied for various types of data, including complete data, right-censored data, and current status data. This article discusses the boundary effect on these inference procedures, a problem that has been neglected in the previous literature. Specifically, asymptotic distribution of the association estimator on the boundary of parameter space is derived for one-dimensional copula models. The boundary properties are applied to test independence and to study the estimation efficiency. Simulation study is conducted for the bivariate right-censored data and current status data.  相似文献

This paper proposes a copula directional dependence by using a bivariate Gaussian copula beta regression with Stochastic Volatility (SV) models for marginal distributions. With the asymmetric copula generated by the composition of two Plackett copulas, we show that our SV copula directional dependence by the Gaussian copula beta regression model is superior to the Kim and Hwang (2016) copula directional dependence by an asymmetric GARCH model in terms of the percent relative efficiency of bias and mean squared error. To validate our proposed method with the real data, we use Brent Crude Daily Price (BRENT), West Texas Intermediate Daily Price (WTI), the Standard & Poor’s 500 (SP) and US 10-Year Treasury Constant Maturity Rate (TCM) so that our copula SV directional dependence is overall superior to the Kim and Hwang (2016) copula directional dependence by an asymmetric GARCH model in terms of precision by the percent relative efficiency of mean squared error. In terms of forecasting using the real financial data, we also show that the Bayesian SV model of the uniform transformed data by a copula conditional distribution yields an improvement on the volatility models such as GARCH and SV.  相似文献

The author recalls the limiting behaviour of the empirical copula process and applies it to prove some asymptotic properties of a minimum distance estimator for a Euclidean parameter in a copula model. The estimator in question is semiparametric in that no knowledge of the marginal distributions is necessary. The author also proposes another semiparametric estimator which he calls “rank approximate Z‐estimator” and whose asymptotic normality he derives. He further presents Monte Carlo simulation results for the comparison of various estimators in four well‐known bivariate copula models.  相似文献

Vine copula provides a flexible tool to capture asymmetry in modeling multivariate distributions. Nevertheless, its flexibility is achieved at the expense of exponentially increasing complexity of the model. To alleviate this issue, the simplifying assumption (SA) is commonly adapted in specific applications of vine copula models. In this paper, generalized linear models (GLMs) are proposed for the parameters in conditional bivariate copulas to relax the SA. In the spirit of the principle of parsimony, a regularization methodology is developed to control the number of parameters, leading to sparse vine copula models. The conventional vine copula with the SA, the proposed GLM-based vine copula, and the sparse vine copula are applied to several financial datasets, and the results show that our proposed models outperform the one with SA significantly in terms of the Bayesian information criterion.  相似文献

Copulas and frailty models are important tools to model bivariate survival data. Equivalence between Archimedean copula models and shared frailty models, e.g. between the Clayton-Oakes copula model and the shared gamma frailty model, has often been claimed in the literature. In this note we show that, in both the models, there is indeed a well-known equivalence between the copula functions; the modeling of the marginal survival functions, however, is quite different. The latter fact leads to different joint survival functions.  相似文献

Multivariate copula models are commonly used in place of Gaussian dependence models when plots of the data suggest tail dependence and tail asymmetry. In these cases, it is useful to have simple statistics to summarize the strength of dependence in different joint tails. Measures of monotone association such as Kendall's tau and Spearman's rho are insufficient to distinguish commonly used parametric bivariate families with different tail properties. We propose lower and upper tail-weighted bivariate measures of dependence as additional scalar measures to distinguish bivariate copulas with roughly the same overall monotone dependence. These measures allow the efficient estimation of strength of dependence in the joint tails and can be used as a guide for selection of bivariate linking copulas in vine and factor models as well as for assessing the adequacy of fit of multivariate copula models. We apply the tail-weighted measures of dependence to a financial data set and show that the measures better discriminate models with different tail properties compared to commonly used risk measures – the portfolio value-at-risk and conditional tail expectation.  相似文献

We collect well-known and less-known facts about the bivariate normal distribution and translate them into copula language. In addition, we provide various (equivalent) expressions for the bivariate normal copula, we compute its Gini's gamma, and we derive improved bounds and approximations on its diagonal.  相似文献

A new nonparametric estimator is proposed for the copula function of a bivariate survival function for data subject to random right-censoring. We consider two censoring models: univariate and copula censoring. We show strong consistency and we obtain an i.i.d. representation for the copula estimator. In a simulation study we compare the new estimator to the one of Gribkova and Lopez [Nonparametric copula estimation under bivariate censoring; doi:10.1111/sjos.12144].  相似文献

In this paper some Archimedean copula functions for bivariate financial returns are studied. The choice of this family is due to their ability to capture the tail dependence, which is an association measure we can detect in many bivariate financial time-series. A time-varying version of these copulae is also investigated. Finally, the Value-at-Risk is computed and its performance is compared across different copula specifications.  相似文献

A mixture model is proposed to analyze a bivariate interval censored data with cure rates. There exist two types of association related with bivariate failure times and bivariate cure rates, respectively. A correlation coefficient is adopted for the association of bivariate cure rates and a copula function is applied for bivariate survival times. The conditional expectation of unknown quantities attributable to interval censored data and cure rates are calculated in the E-step in ES (Expectation-Solving algorithm) and the marginal estimates and the association measures are estimated in the S-step through a two-stage procedure. A simulation study is performed to evaluate the suggested method and a real data from HIV patients is analyzed as a real data example.  相似文献

Vine copulas (or pair-copula constructions) have become an important tool for high-dimensional dependence modeling. Typically, so-called simplified vine copula models are estimated where bivariate conditional copulas are approximated by bivariate unconditional copulas. We present the first nonparametric estimator of a non-simplified vine copula that allows for varying conditional copulas using penalized hierarchical B-splines. Throughout the vine copula, we test for the simplifying assumption in each edge, establishing a data-driven non-simplified vine copula estimator. To overcome the curse of dimensionality, we approximate conditional copulas with more than one conditioning argument by a conditional copula with the first principal component as conditioning argument. An extensive simulation study is conducted, showing a substantial improvement in the out-of-sample Kullback–Leibler divergence if the null hypothesis of a simplified vine copula can be rejected. We apply our method to the famous uranium data and present a classification of an eye state data set, demonstrating the potential benefit that can be achieved when conditional copulas are modeled.  相似文献

This article proposes a new directional dependence by using the Gaussian copula beta regression model. In particular, we consider an asymmetric Generalized AutoRegressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (GARCH) model for the marginal distribution of standardized residuals to make data exhibiting conditionally heteroscedasticity to white noise process. With the simulated data generated by an asymmetric bivariate copula, we verify our proposed directional dependence method. For the multivariate direction dependence by using the Gaussian copula beta regression model, we employ a three-dimensional archemedian copula to generate trivariate data and then show the directional dependence for one random variable given two other random variables. With West Texas Intermediate Daily Price (WTI) and the Standard & Poor’s 500 (S&P 500), our proposed directional dependence by the Gaussian copula beta regression model reveals that the directional dependence from WTI to S&P 500 is greater than that from S&P 500 to WTI. To validate our empirical result, the Granger causality test is conducted, confirming the same result produced by our method.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider non‐parametric copula inference under bivariate censoring. Based on an estimator of the joint cumulative distribution function, we define a discrete and two smooth estimators of the copula. The construction that we propose is valid for a large range of estimators of the distribution function and therefore for a large range of bivariate censoring frameworks. Under some conditions on the tails of the distributions, the weak convergence of the corresponding copula processes is obtained in l([0,1]2). We derive the uniform convergence rates of the copula density estimators deduced from our smooth copula estimators. Investigation of the practical behaviour of these estimators is performed through a simulation study and two real data applications, corresponding to different censoring settings. We use our non‐parametric estimators to define a goodness‐of‐fit procedure for parametric copula models. A new bootstrap scheme is proposed to compute the critical values.  相似文献

A copula can fully characterize the dependence of multiple variables. The purpose of this paper is to provide a Bayesian nonparametric approach to the estimation of a copula, and we do this by mixing over a class of parametric copulas. In particular, we show that any bivariate copula density can be arbitrarily accurately approximated by an infinite mixture of Gaussian copula density functions. The model can be estimated by Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods and the model is demonstrated on both simulated and real data sets.  相似文献

Recent investigations about notions of bivariate aging have underlined the need to introduce some new properties of positive dependence for a bivariate random vector. Here, by using the recent notion of supermigrativity of a bivariate copula, a?positive dependence property is introduced and investigated. Comparisons with other notions of positive dependence are also presented.  相似文献

We consider efficient estimation of regression and association parameters jointly for bivariate current status data with the marginal proportional hazards model. Current status data occur in many fields including demographical studies and tumorigenicity experiments and several approaches have been proposed for regression analysis of univariate current status data. We discuss bivariate current status data and propose an efficient score estimation approach for the problem. In the approach, the copula model is used for joint survival function with the survival times assumed to follow the proportional hazards model marginally. Simulation studies are performed to evaluate the proposed estimates and suggest that the approach works well in practical situations. A real life data application is provided for illustration.  相似文献

Three tail asymmetry measures for bivariate copulas are introduced using two different approaches—univariate skewness of a projection and distance between a copula and its survival/reflected copula. We compare the asymmetry measures based on certain desirable properties. Bounds for each measure are obtained and also copulas which attain these extreme values are identified. Two data examples show the amount of asymmetry that might be expected in practice.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose to use a special class of bivariate frailty models to study dependent censored data. The proposed models are closely linked to Archimedean copula models. We give sufficient conditions for the identifiability of this type of competing risks models. The proposed conditions are derived based on a property shared by Archimedean copula models and satisfied by several well‐known bivariate frailty models. Compared with the models studied by Heckman and Honoré and Abbring and van den Berg, our models are more restrictive but can be identified with a discrete (even finite) covariate. Under our identifiability conditions, expectation–maximization (EM) algorithm provides us with consistent estimates of the unknown parameters. Simulation studies have shown that our estimation procedure works quite well. We fit a dependent censored leukaemia data set using the Clayton copula model and end our paper with some discussions. © 2014 Board of the Foundation of the Scandinavian Journal of Statistics  相似文献

Determination of an adequate sample size is critical to the design of research ventures. For clustered right-censored data, Manatunga and Chen [Sample size estimation for survival outcomes in cluster-randomized studies with small cluster sizes. Biometrics. 2000;56(2):616–621] proposed a sample size calculation based on considering the bivariate marginal distribution as Clayton copula model. In addition to the Clayton copula, other important family of copulas, such as Gumbel and Frank copulas are also well established in multivariate survival analysis. However, sample size calculation based on these assumptions has not been fully investigated yet. To broaden the scope of Manatunga and Chen [Sample size estimation for survival outcomes in cluster-randomized studies with small cluster sizes. Biometrics. 2000;56(2):616–621]'s research and achieve a more flexible sample size calculation for clustered right-censored data, we extended the work by assuming the marginal distribution as bivariate Gumbel and Frank copulas. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method and investigate the impacts of the accrual times, follow-up times and the within-clustered correlation effect of the study. The proposed method is applied to two real-world studies, and the R code is made available to users.  相似文献

We introduce an absolutely continuous bivariate generalization of the Topp–Leone distribution, which is a special member of the proportional reversed hazard family using a one-parameter bivariate exchangeable distribution. We show that a copula approach could also be used in defining the bivariate Topp–Leone distribution. The marginal distributions of the new bivariate distribution have also Topp–Leone distributions. We study its distributional and dependence properties. We estimate the parameters by maximum-likelihood procedure, perform a simulation study on the estimators, and apply them to a real data set. Furthermore, we give a way of generating bivariate distributions using the proposed distribution.  相似文献
