A ratio test based on the indicators of the data minus the sample median is proposed to detect the change in the mean of α-mixing stochastic sequences. The asymptotic distribution of the test is derived under the null hypothesis. The consistency of the proposed test is also obtained under the hypothesis that μ changes at some unknown time. We also propose a consistent estimator for the change point on the ratio test. Simulations demonstrate that the test and the estimator behaves well for heavy-tailed sequences. At last, an empirical application demonstrate the validity of the test and the estimator.  相似文献

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to propose an efficient estimation procedure in a marginal mean regression model for longitudinal count data and to develop a hypothesis test for detecting the presence of overdispersion. We extend the matrix expansion idea of quadratic inference functions to the negative binomial regression framework that entails accommodating both the within-subject correlation and overdispersion issue. Theoretical and numerical results show that the proposed procedure yields a more efficient estimator asymptotically than the one ignoring either the within-subject correlation or overdispersion. When the overdispersion is absent in data, the proposed method might hinder the estimation efficiency in practice, yet the Poisson regression based regression model is fitted to the data sufficiently well. Therefore, we construct the hypothesis test that recommends an appropriate model for the analysis of the correlated count data. Extensive simulation studies indicate that the proposed test can identify the effective model consistently. The proposed procedure is also applied to a transportation safety study and recommends the proposed negative binomial regression model.  相似文献

Abstract

A new parametric hypothesis test of mean interval for interval-valued data set, which can deal with massive information contained in nowadays massive data “Big data” sets, is proposed. An approach using an orthogonal transformation is introduced to obtain an equivalent hypothesis test of mean interval in terms of the mid-point and mid-range of the interval-valued variable. The new test is very efficient in small interval-valued sample scenarios. Some simulation studies are conducted for the investigation of the sample size and the power of test. The performance of the proposed test is illustrated with two real-life examples.  相似文献

In this article, we propose a new goodness-of-fit test for Type I or Type II censored samples from a completely specified distribution. This test is a generalization of Michael's test for censored data, which is based on the empirical distribution and a variance stabilizing transformation. Using Monte Carlo methods, the distributions of the test statistics are analyzed under the null hypothesis. Tables of quantiles of these statistics are also provided. The power of the proposed test is studied and compared to that of other well-known tests also using simulation. The proposed test is more powerful in most of the considered cases. Acceptance regions for the PP, QQ, and Michael's stabilized probability plots are derived, which enable one to visualize which data contribute to the decision of rejecting the null hypothesis. Finally, an application in quality control is presented as illustration.  相似文献

It is well known that the testing of zero variance components is a non-standard problem since the null hypothesis is on the boundary of the parameter space. The usual asymptotic chi-square distribution of the likelihood ratio and score statistics under the null does not necessarily hold because of this null hypothesis. To circumvent this difficulty in balanced linear growth curve models, we introduce an appropriate test statistic and suggest a permutation procedure to approximate its finite-sample distribution. The proposed test alleviates the necessity of any distributional assumptions for the random effects and errors and can easily be applied for testing multiple variance components. Our simulation studies show that the proposed test has Type I error rate close to the nominal level. The power of the proposed test is also compared with the likelihood ratio test in the simulations. An application on data from an orthodontic study is presented and discussed.  相似文献

A number of tests of the proportional hazards hypothesis have been proposed in the past. In recent years, researchers have proposed tests geared specially for the alternative hypothesis of "increasing hazard ratio", keeping in mind the case of crossing hazards. This alternative may be too restrictive in many situations. In this paper we develop a test of the proportional hazards model for the weaker "increasing cumulative hazard ratio" alternative. The work is motivated by a data analytic example given by Gill & Schumacher (1987) where their test fails to reject the null hypothesis even though the faster ageing of one group is quite apparent from a plot. The normalized test statistic proposed here has an asymptotically normal distribution under either hypothesis. We also present two graphical methods related to our analytical test.  相似文献

We develop an entropy-based test for randomness of binary time series of finite length. The test uses the frequencies of contiguous blocks of different lengths. A simple condition ib the block lengths and the length of the time series enables one to estimate the entropy rate for the data, and this information is used to develop a statistic to test the hypothesis of randomness. This static measures the deviation of the estimated entropy of the observed data from the theoretical maximum under the randomness hypothesis. This test offers a real alternative to the conventional runs test. Critical percentage points, based on simulations, are provided for testing the hypothesis of randomness. Power calculations using dependent data show that the proposed test has higher power against the runs test for short series, and it is similar to the runs test for long series. The test is applied to two published data sets that wree investigated by others with respect to their randomness.  相似文献

Marginal hazard models for multivariate failure time data have been studied extensively in recent literature. However, standard hypothesis test statistics based on the likelihood method are not exactly appropriate for this kind of model. In this paper, extensions of the three commonly used likelihood hypothesis test statistics are discussed. Generalized Wald, generalized score and generalized likelihood ratio tests for hazard ratio parameters in a marginal hazard model for multivariate failure time data are proposed and their asymptotic distributions examined. The finite sample properties of these statistics are studied through simulations. The proposed method is applied to data from Busselton Population Health Surveys.  相似文献

We propose a new method to test the order between two high-dimensional mean curves. The new statistic extends the approach of Follmann (1996) to high-dimensional data by adapting the strategy of Bai and Saranadasa (1996). The proposed procedure is an alternative to the non-negative basis matrix factorization (NBMF) based test of Lee et al. (2008) for the same hypothesis, but it is much easier to implement. We derive the asymptotic mean and variance of the proposed test statistic under the null hypothesis of equal mean curves. Based on theoretical results, we put forward a permutation procedure to approximate the null distribution of the new test statistic. We compare the power of the proposed test with that of the NBMF-based test via simulations. We illustrate the approach by an application to tidal volume traces.  相似文献

Testing the equal means hypothesis of a bivariate normal distribution with homoscedastic varlates when the data are incomplete is considered. If the correlational parameter, ρ, is known, the well-known theory of the general linear model is easily employed to construct the likelihood ratio test for the two sided alternative. A statistic, T, for the case of ρ unknown is proposed by direct analogy to the likelihood ratio statistic when ρ is known. The null and nonnull distribution of T is investigated by Monte Carlo techniques. It is concluded that T may be compared to the conventional t distribution for testing the null hypothesis and that this procedure results in a substantial increase in power-efficiency over the procedure based on the paired t test which ignores the incomplete data. A Monte Carlo comparison to two statistics proposed by Lin and Stivers (1974) suggests that the test based on T is more conservative than either of their statistics.  相似文献

In this study, we consider an entropy-type goodness-of-fit (GOF) test based on integrated distribution functions. We first construct the test for the simple vs. simple hypothesis and then extend it to the composite hypothesis case. It is shown that under regularity conditions, the null limiting distribution of the proposed test is a function of a Brownian bridge. A bootstrap method is also considered and is shown to be weakly consistent. A simulation study and real data analysis are conducted for illustration.  相似文献

A test of congruence among distance matrices is described. It tests the hypothesis that several matrices, containing different types of variables about the same objects, are congruent with one another, so they can be used jointly in statistical analysis. Raw data tables are turned into similarity or distance matrices prior to testing; they can then be compared to data that naturally come in the form of distance matrices. The proposed test can be seen as a generalization of the Mantel test of matrix correspondence to any number of distance matrices. This paper shows that the new test has the correct rate of Type I error and good power. Power increases as the number of objects and the number of congruent data matrices increase; power is higher when the total number of matrices in the study is smaller. To illustrate the method, the proposed test is used to test the hypothesis that matrices representing different types of organoleptic variables (colour, nose, body, palate and finish) in single‐malt Scotch whiskies are congruent.  相似文献

Abstract

The homogeneity hypothesis is investigated in a location family of distributions. A moment-based test is introduced based on data collected from a ranked set sampling scheme. The asymptotic distribution of the proposed test statistic is determined and the performance of the test is studied via simulation. Furthermore, for small sample sizes, the bootstrap procedure is used to distinguish the homogeneity of data. An illustrative example is also presented to explain the proposed procedures in this paper.  相似文献

Under the assumption of multivariate normality the likelihood ratio test is derived to test a hypothesis for Kronecker product structure on a covariance matrix in the context of multivariate repeated measures data. Although the proposed hypothesis testing can be computationally performed by indirect use of Proc Mixed of SAS, the Proc Mixed algorithm often fails to converge. We provide an alternative algorithm. The algorithm is illustrated with two real data sets. A simulation study is also conducted for the purpose of sample size consideration.  相似文献

We propose a new goodness-of-fit test for normal and lognormal distributions with unknown parameters and type-II censored data. This test is a generalization of Michael's test for censored samples, which is based on the empirical distribution and a variance stabilizing transformation. We estimate the parameters of the model by using maximum likelihood and Gupta's methods. The quantiles of the distribution of the test statistic under the null hypothesis are obtained through Monte Carlo simulations. The power of the proposed test is estimated and compared to that of the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test also using simulations. The new test is more powerful than the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test in most of the studied cases. Acceptance regions for the PP, QQ and Michael's stabilized probability plots are derived, making it possible to visualize which data contribute to the decision of rejecting the null hypothesis. Finally, an illustrative example is presented.

We propose two retrospective test statistics for testing the vector of odds ratio parameters under the logistic regression model based on case–control data by exploiting the density ratio structure under a two-sample semiparametric model, which is equivalent to the assumed logistic regression model. The proposed test statistics are based on Kullback–Leibler entropy distance and are particularly relevant to the case–control sampling plan. These two test statistics have identical asymptotic chi-squared distributions under the null hypothesis and identical asymptotic noncentral chi-squared distributions under local alternatives to the null hypothesis. Moreover, the proposed test statistics require computation of the maximum semiparametric likelihood estimators of the underlying parameters, but are otherwise easily computed. We present some results on simulation and on the analysis of two real data sets.  相似文献

For one-way fixed effects of log-normal data with unequal variance, the present study proposes a method to deal with heterogeneity. An appropriate hypothesis testing is demonstrated; and one of the approximate tests, such as the Alexander-Govern test, Welch test or James second-order test, is applied to control Type I error rate. Monte Carlo simulation is used to investigate the performance of the F test for log-scale, the F test for original scale, the James second-order test, the Welch test, and the Alexander-Govern test. The simulated results and real data analysis show that the proposed method is valid and powerful.  相似文献

Many applications of nonparametric tests based on curve estimation involve selecting a smoothing parameter. The author proposes an adaptive test that combines several generalized likelihood ratio tests in order to get power performance nearly equal to whichever of the component tests is best. She derives the asymptotic joint distribution of the component tests and that of the proposed test under the null hypothesis. She also develops a simple method of selecting the smoothing parameters for the proposed test and presents two approximate methods for obtaining its P‐value. Finally, she evaluates the proposed test through simulations and illustrates its application to a set of real data.  相似文献

The main purpose of this paper is to introduce first a new family of empirical test statistics for testing a simple null hypothesis when the vector of parameters of interest is defined through a specific set of unbiased estimating functions. This family of test statistics is based on a distance between two probability vectors, with the first probability vector obtained by maximizing the empirical likelihood (EL) on the vector of parameters, and the second vector defined from the fixed vector of parameters under the simple null hypothesis. The distance considered for this purpose is the phi-divergence measure. The asymptotic distribution is then derived for this family of test statistics. The proposed methodology is illustrated through the well-known data of Newcomb's measurements on the passage time for light. A simulation study is carried out to compare its performance with that of the EL ratio test when confidence intervals are constructed based on the respective statistics for small sample sizes. The results suggest that the ‘empirical modified likelihood ratio test statistic’ provides a competitive alternative to the EL ratio test statistic, and is also more robust than the EL ratio test statistic in the presence of contamination in the data. Finally, we propose empirical phi-divergence test statistics for testing a composite null hypothesis and present some asymptotic as well as simulation results for evaluating the performance of these test procedures.  相似文献
