Abstract

While the Gompertz distribution is often fitted to lifespan data, testing whether the fit satisfies theoretical criteria is being neglected. Here four goodness-of-fit measures – the Anderson–Darling statistic, the correlation coefficient test, a statistic using moments, and a nested test against the generalized extreme value distributions – are discussed. Along with an application to laboratory rat data, critical values calculated by the empirical distribution of the test statistics are also presented.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper extends the classical methods of analysis of a two-way contingency table to the fuzzy environment for two cases: (1) when the available sample of observations is reported as imprecise data, and (2) the case in which we prefer to categorize the variables based on linguistic terms rather than as crisp quantities. For this purpose, the α-cuts approach is used to extend the usual concepts of the test statistic and p-value to the fuzzy test statistic and fuzzy p-value. In addition, some measures of association are extended to the fuzzy version in order to evaluate the dependence in such contingency tables. Some practical examples are provided to explain the applicability of the proposed methods in real-world problems.  相似文献

Zerbet and Nikulin presented the new statistic Z k for detecting outliers in exponential distribution. They also compared this statistic with Dixon's statistic D k . In this article, we extend this approach to gamma distribution and compare the result with Dixon's statistic. The results show that the test based on statistic Z k is more powerful than the test based on the Dixon's statistic.  相似文献

Minimum t statistics to test for a unit-root are available when the form of break under the alternative evolves according to the crash, changing growth, and mixed models. It is shown that serious power distortions occur if the form of break is misspecified, and thus the practitioner should use the mixed model as the appropriate alternative in empirical applications. The mixed model may reveal useful information regarding the location and form of break. The maximum F statistic for the joint null of a unit-root and no breaks is shown to have greater and less erratic power compared to the minimumt statistic. Stronger evidence against the unit-root is found for the Nelson-Plosser series and U.S. Postwar quarterly real gross national product.  相似文献

K correlated 2×2 tables with structural zero are commonly encountered in infectious disease studies. A hypothesis test for risk difference is considered in K independent 2×2 tables with structural zero in this paper. Score statistic, likelihood ratio statistic and Wald‐type statistic are proposed to test the hypothesis on the basis of stratified data and pooled data. Sample size formulae are derived for controlling a pre‐specified power or a pre‐determined confidence interval width. Our empirical results show that score statistic and likelihood ratio statistic behave better than Wald‐type statistic in terms of type I error rate and coverage probability, sample sizes based on stratified test are smaller than those based on the pooled test in the same design. A real example is used to illustrate the proposed methodologies. Copyright © 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Most of the higher-order asymptotic results in statistical inference available in the literature assume model correctness. The aim of this paper is to develop higher-order results under model misspecification. The density functions to O(n?3/2) of the robust score test statistic and the robust Wald test statistic are derived under the null hypothesis, for the scalar as well as the multiparameter case. Alternate statistics which are robust to O(n?3/2) are also proposed.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In practice, it is often not possible to find an appropriate family of distributions which can be used for fitting the sample distribution with high precision. In these cases, it seems to be opportune to search for the best approximation by a family of distributions instead of an exact fit. In this paper, we consider the Anderson–Darling statistic with plugged-in minimum distance estimator for the parameter vector. We prove asymptotic normality of the Anderson–Darling statistic which is used for a test of goodness of approximation. Moreover, we introduce a measure of discrepancy between the sample distribution and the model class.  相似文献

In this paper, we obtain an adjusted version of the likelihood ratio (LR) test for errors-in-variables multivariate linear regression models. The error terms are allowed to follow a multivariate distribution in the class of the elliptical distributions, which has the multivariate normal distribution as a special case. We derive a modified LR statistic that follows a chi-squared distribution with a high degree of accuracy. Our results generalize those in Melo and Ferrari (Advances in Statistical Analysis, 2010, 94, pp. 75–87) by allowing the parameter of interest to be vector-valued in the multivariate errors-in-variables model. We report a simulation study which shows that the proposed test displays superior finite sample behavior relative to the standard LR test.  相似文献

Shiue and Bain proposed an approximate F statistic for testing equality of two gamma distribution scale parameters in presence of a common and unknown shape parameter. By generalizing Shiue and Bain's statistic we develop a new statistic for testing equality of L >= 2 gamma distribution scale parameters. We derive the distribution of the new statistic ESP for L = 2 and equal sample size situation. For other situations distribution of ESP is not known and test based on the ESP statistic has to be performed by using simulated critical values. We also derive a C(α) statistic CML and develop a likelihood ratio statistic, LR, two modified likelihood ratio statistics M and MLB and a quadratic statistic Q. The distribution of each of the statistics CML, LR, M, MLB and Q is asymptotically chi-square with L - 1 degrees of freedom. We then conducted a monte-carlo simulation study to compare the perfor- mance of the statistics ESP, LR, M, MLB, CML and Q in terms of size and power. The statistics LR, M, MLB and Q are in general liberal and do not show power advantage over other statistics. The statistic CML, based on its asymptotic chi-square distribution, in general, holds nominal level well. It is most powerful or nearly most powerful in most situations and is simple to use. Hence, we recommend the statistic CML for use in general. For better power the statistic ESP, based on its empirical distribution, is recommended for the special situation for which there is evidence in the data that λ1 < … < λL and n1 < … < nL, where λ1 …, λL are the scale parameters and n1,…, nL are the sample sizes.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Likelihood ratio tests for a change in mean in a sequence of independent, normal random variables are based on the maximum two-sample t-statistic, where the maximum is taken over all possible changepoints. The maximum t-statistic has the undesirable characteristic that Type I errors are not uniformly distributed across possible changepoints. False positives occur more frequently near the ends of the sequence and occur less frequently near the middle of the sequence. In this paper we describe an alternative statistic that is based upon a minimum p-value, where the minimum is taken over all possible changepoints. The p-value at any particular changepoint is based upon both the two-sample t-statistic at that changepoint and the probability that the maximum two-sample t-statistic is achieved at that changepoint. The new statistic has a more uniform distribution of Type I errors across potential changepoints and it compares favorably with respect to statistical power, false discovery rates, and the mean square error of changepoint estimates.  相似文献

A general rank test procedure based on an underlying multinomial distribution is suggested for randomized block experiments with multifactor treatment combinations within each block. The Wald statistic for the multinomial is used to test hypotheses about the within–block rankings. This statistic is shown to be related to the one–sample Hotellingt's T2 statistic, suggesting a method for computing the test statistic using the standard statistical computer packages.  相似文献

The Levene test is a widely used test for detecting differences in dispersion. The modified Levene transformation using sample medians is considered in this article. After Levene's transformation the data are not normally distributed, hence, nonparametric tests may be useful. As the Wilcoxon rank sum test applied to the transformed data cannot control the type I error rate for asymmetric distributions, a permutation test based on reallocations of the original observations rather than the absolute deviations was investigated. Levene's transformation is then only an intermediate step to compute the test statistic. Such a Levene test, however, cannot control the type I error rate when the Wilcoxon statistic is used; with the Fisher–Pitman permutation test it can be extremely conservative. The Fisher–Pitman test based on reallocations of the transformed data seems to be the only acceptable nonparametric test. Simulation results indicate that this test is on average more powerful than applying the t test after Levene's transformation, even when the t test is improved by the deletion of structural zeros.  相似文献

Because of its simplicity, the Q statistic is frequently used to test the heterogeneity of the estimated intervention effect in meta-analyses of individually randomized trials. However, it is inappropriate to apply it directly to the meta-analyses of cluster randomized trials without taking clustering effects into account. We consider the properties of the adjusted Q statistic for testing heterogeneity in the meta-analyses of cluster randomized trials with binary outcomes. We also derive an analytic expression for the power of this statistic to detect heterogeneity in meta-analyses, which can be useful when planning a meta-analysis. A simulation study is used to assess the performance of the adjusted Q statistic, in terms of its Type I error rate and power. The simulation results are compared to that obtained from the proposed formula. It is found that the adjusted Q statistic has a Type I error rate close to the nominal level of 5%, as compared to the unadjusted Q statistic commonly used to test for heterogeneity in the meta-analyses of individually randomized trials with an inflated Type I error rate. Data from a meta-analysis of four cluster randomized trials are used to illustrate the procedures.  相似文献

Goodness-of-fit tests for the uniform distribution based on sums of smooth functions of m-spacings are studied. A limiting sum-of-weighted-chi-squareds approximation is shown to be accurate uniformly in m for the special cases of analogues of Greenwoo?s statistic and Moran's statistic. Asymptotic critical points are provided; theory and Monte Carlo studies show they are accurate for all m provided n is moderately large.  相似文献

Abstract

Two recurrence relations with respect to sample size are given concerning the joint distribution of skewness and kurtosis of random observations from a normal population: one between the probability density functions and the other between the product moments. As a consequence, the latter yields a recurrence formula for the moments of sample kurtosis. The exact moments of Jarque-Bera statistic is also given.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The analysis of variance of cross-classified (categorical) data (CATANOVA) is a technique designed to identify the variation between treatments of interest to the researcher. There are well-established links between CATANOVA and the Goodman and Kruskal tau statistic as well as the Light and Margolin R 2 for the purposes of the graphical identification of this variation.

The aim of this article is to present a partition of the numerator of the tau statistic, or equivalently, the BSS measure in the CATANOVA framework, into location, dispersion, and higher order components. Even if a CATANOVA identifies an overall lack of variation, by considering this partition and calculations derived from them, it is possible to identify hidden, but statistically significant, sources of variation.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

We will design a new mixed acceptance sampling plan based on the exponentially weighted moving average statistic in this article. The plan parameters of the proposed plan are determined by an optimization problem. The efficiency of the proposed plan is compared with the existing attribute sampling plan. An industrial example is given for illustration purpose.  相似文献

A Bayesian analysis is provided for the Wilcoxon signed-rank statistic (T+). The Bayesian analysis is based on a sign-bias parameter φ on the (0, 1) interval. For the case of a uniform prior probability distribution for φ and for small sample sizes (i.e., 6 ? n ? 25), values for the statistic T+ are computed that enable probabilistic statements about φ. For larger sample sizes, approximations are provided for the asymptotic likelihood function P(T+|φ) as well as for the posterior distribution P(φ|T+). Power analyses are examined both for properly specified Gaussian sampling and for misspecified non Gaussian models. The new Bayesian metric has high power efficiency in the range of 0.9–1 relative to a standard t test when there is Gaussian sampling. But if the sampling is from an unknown and misspecified distribution, then the new statistic still has high power; in some cases, the power can be higher than the t test (especially for probability mixtures and heavy-tailed distributions). The new Bayesian analysis is thus a useful and robust method for applications where the usual parametric assumptions are questionable. These properties further enable a way to do a generic Bayesian analysis for many non Gaussian distributions that currently lack a formal Bayesian model.  相似文献

Abstract

The problem of testing Rayleigh distribution against exponentiality, based on a random sample of observations is considered. This problem arises in survival analysis, when testing a linearly increasing hazard function against a constant hazard function. It is shown that for this problem the most powerful invariant test is equivalent to the “ratio of maximized likelihoods” (RML) test. However, since the two families are separate, the RML test statistic does not have the usual asymptotic chi-square distribution. Normal and saddlepoint approximations to the distribution of the RML test statistic are derived. Simulations show that saddlepoint approximation is more accurate than the normal approximation, especially for tail probabilities that are the main values of interest in hypothesis testing.  相似文献

A new diagnostic method for VARMA(p,q) time series models is introduced. The procedure is based on a statistic that generalizes to a multivariate setting the properties of the usual univariate ARMA(p,q) residual correlations. A multiple version of the cumulative periodogram statistic is also suggested. Simulation studies and one real data application are presented.  相似文献
