This paper studies the stationary bootstrap applicability for realized covariations of high frequency asynchronous financial data. The stationary bootstrap method, which is characterized by a block-bootstrap with random block length, is applied to estimate the integrated covariations. The bootstrap realized covariance, bootstrap realized regression coefficient and bootstrap realized correlation coefficient are proposed, and the validity of the stationary bootstrapping for them is established both for large sample and for finite sample. Consistencies of bootstrap distributions are established, which provide us valid stationary bootstrap confidence intervals. The bootstrap confidence intervals do not require a consistent estimator of a nuisance parameter arising from nonsynchronous unequally spaced sampling while those based on a normal asymptotic theory require a consistent estimator. A Monte-Carlo comparison reveals that the proposed stationary bootstrap confidence intervals have better coverage probabilities than those based on normal approximation.  相似文献

A bootstrap based method to construct 1−α simultaneous confidence intervals for relative effects in the one-way layout is presented. This procedure takes the stochastic correlation between the test statistics into account and results in narrower simultaneous confidence intervals than the application of the Bonferroni correction. Instead of using the bootstrap distribution of a maximum statistic, the coverage of the confidence intervals for the individual comparisons are adjusted iteratively until the overall confidence level is reached. Empirical coverage and power estimates of the introduced procedure for many-to-one comparisons are presented and compared with asymptotic procedures based on the multivariate normal distribution.  相似文献

Exact confidence intervals for variances rely on normal distribution assumptions. Alternatively, large-sample confidence intervals for the variance can be attained if one estimates the kurtosis of the underlying distribution. The method used to estimate the kurtosis has a direct impact on the performance of the interval and thus the quality of statistical inferences. In this paper the author considers a number of kurtosis estimators combined with large-sample theory to construct approximate confidence intervals for the variance. In addition, a nonparametric bootstrap resampling procedure is used to build bootstrap confidence intervals for the variance. Simulated coverage probabilities using different confidence interval methods are computed for a variety of sample sizes and distributions. A modification to a conventional estimator of the kurtosis, in conjunction with adjustments to the mean and variance of the asymptotic distribution of a function of the sample variance, improves the resulting coverage values for leptokurtically distributed populations.  相似文献

In the ciassical regression model Yi=h(xi) + ? i, i=1,…,n, Cheng (1984) introduced linear combinations of regression quantiles as a new class of estimators for the unknown regression function h(x). The asymptotic properties studied in Cheng (1984) are reconsidered. We obtain a sharper scrong consistency rate and we improve on the conditions for asymptotic normality by proving a new result on the remainder term in the Bahadur representation for regression quantiles.  相似文献

The main objective of this work is to evaluate the performance of confidence intervals, built using the deviance statistic, for the hyperparameters of state space models. The first procedure is a marginal approximation to confidence regions, based on the likelihood test, and the second one is based on the signed root deviance profile. Those methods are computationally efficient and are not affected by problems such as intervals with limits outside the parameter space, which can be the case when the focus is on the variances of the errors. The procedures are compared to the usual approaches existing in the literature, which includes the method based on the asymptotic distribution of the maximum likelihood estimator, as well as bootstrap confidence intervals. The comparison is performed via a Monte Carlo study, in order to establish empirically the advantages and disadvantages of each method. The results show that the methods based on the deviance statistic possess a better coverage rate than the asymptotic and bootstrap procedures.  相似文献

We propose a method that integrates bootstrap into the forward search algorithm in the construction of robust confidence intervals for elements of the eigenvectors of the correlation matrix in the presence of outliers. Coverage probability of the bootstrap simultaneous confidence intervals was compared to the coverage probabilities of regular asymptotic confidence region and asymptotic confidence region based on the minimum covariance determinant (MCD) approach through a simulation study. The method produced more stable coverage probabilities for datasets with or without outliers and across several sample sizes compared to approaches based on asymptotic confidence regions.  相似文献

This paper establishes a nonparametric estimator for the treatment effect on censored bivariate data under unvariate censoring. This proposed estimator is based on the one from Lin and Ying(1993)'s nonparametric bivariate survival function estimator, which is itself a generalized version of Park and Park(1995)' quantile estimator. A Bahadur type representation of quantile functions were obtained from the marginal survival distribution estimator of Lin and Ying' model. The asymptotic property of this estimator is shown below and the simulation studies are also given  相似文献

The wild bootstrap is a nonparametric tool that can be used to estimate a sampling distribution in the presence of heteroscedastic errors. In particular, the wild bootstrap enables us to compute confidence regions for regression parameters under non-i.i.d. models. While the wild bootstrap may perform well in these settings, its obvious drawback is a lack of computational efficiency. The wild bootstrap requires a large number of bootstrap replications, making the use of this tool impractical when dealing with big data. We introduce the analytic wild bootstrap (ANWB), which provides a nonparametric alternative way of constructing confidence regions for regression parameters. The ANWB is superior to the wild bootstrap from a computational standpoint while exhibiting similar finite-sample performance. We report simulation results for both least squares and ridge regression. Additionally, we test the ANWB on a real dataset and compare its performance with that of other standard approaches.  相似文献

Many of the existing methods of finding calibration intervals in simple linear regression rely on the inversion of prediction limits. In this article, we propose an alternative procedure which involves two stages. In the first stage, we find a confidence interval for the value of the explanatory variable which corresponds to the given future value of the response. In the second stage, we enlarge the confidence interval found in the first stage to form a confidence interval called, calibration interval, for the value of the explanatory variable which corresponds to the theoretical mean value of the future observation. In finding the confidence interval in the first stage, we have used the method based on hypothesis testing and percentile bootstrap. When the errors are normally distributed, the coverage probability of resulting calibration interval based on hypothesis testing is comparable to that of the classical calibration interval. In the case of non normal errors, the coverage probability of the calibration interval based on hypothesis testing is much closer to the target value than that of the calibration interval based on percentile bootstrap.  相似文献

In this paper, me shall investigate a bootstrap method hasd on a martingale representation of the relevant statistic for inference to a class of functionals of the survival distribution. The method is similar in spirit to Efron's (1981) bootstrap, and thus in the present paper will be referred to as “martingale-based bootstrap” The method was derived from Lin,Wei and Ying (1993), who appiied the method in checking the Cox model with cumulative sums of martingale-based residuals. It is shown that this martingale-based bootstrap gives a correct first-order asymptotic approximation to the distribution function of the corresponding functional of the Kaplan-Meier estimator. As a consequence, confidence intervals constructed by the martingale-based bootstrap have asymptotially correct coverage probability. Our simulation study indicats that the martingale-based bootst strap method for a small and moderate sample sizes can be uniformly better than the usual bootstrap method in estimating the sampling distribution for a mean function and a point probability in survival analysis.  相似文献

We consider a sieve bootstrap procedure to quantify the estimation uncertainty of long-memory parameters in stationary functional time series. We use a semiparametric local Whittle estimator to estimate the long-memory parameter. In the local Whittle estimator, discrete Fourier transform and periodogram are constructed from the first set of principal component scores via a functional principal component analysis. The sieve bootstrap procedure uses a general vector autoregressive representation of the estimated principal component scores. It generates bootstrap replicates that adequately mimic the dependence structure of the underlying stationary process. We first compute the estimated first set of principal component scores for each bootstrap replicate and then apply the semiparametric local Whittle estimator to estimate the memory parameter. By taking quantiles of the estimated memory parameters from these bootstrap replicates, we can nonparametrically construct confidence intervals of the long-memory parameter. As measured by coverage probability differences between the empirical and nominal coverage probabilities at three levels of significance, we demonstrate the advantage of using the sieve bootstrap compared to the asymptotic confidence intervals based on normality.

Given a pair of sample estimators of two independent proportions, bootstrap methods are a common strategy towards deriving the associated confidence interval for the relative risk. We develop a new smooth bootstrap procedure, which generates pseudo-samples from a continuous quantile function. Under a variety of settings, our simulation studies show that our method possesses a better or equal performance in comparison with asymptotic theory based and existing bootstrap methods, particularly for heavily unbalanced data in terms of coverage probability and power. We illustrate our procedure as applied to several published data sets.  相似文献

Bootstrap smoothed (bagged) parameter estimators have been proposed as an improvement on estimators found after preliminary data‐based model selection. A result of Efron in 2014 is a very convenient and widely applicable formula for a delta method approximation to the standard deviation of the bootstrap smoothed estimator. This approximation provides an easily computed guide to the accuracy of this estimator. In addition, Efron considered a confidence interval centred on the bootstrap smoothed estimator, with width proportional to the estimate of this approximation to the standard deviation. We evaluate this confidence interval in the scenario of two nested linear regression models, the full model and a simpler model, and a preliminary test of the null hypothesis that the simpler model is correct. We derive computationally convenient expressions for the ideal bootstrap smoothed estimator and the coverage probability and expected length of this confidence interval. In terms of coverage probability, this confidence interval outperforms the post‐model‐selection confidence interval with the same nominal coverage and based on the same preliminary test. We also compare the performance of the confidence interval centred on the bootstrap smoothed estimator, in terms of expected length, to the usual confidence interval, with the same minimum coverage probability, based on the full model.  相似文献

In the nonparametric setting, the standard bootstrap method is based on the empirical distribution function of a random sample. The author proposes, by means of the empirical likelihood technique, an alternative bootstrap procedure under a nonparametric model in which one has some auxiliary information about the population distribution. By proving the almost sure weak convergence of the modified bootstrapped empirical process, the validity of the proposed bootstrap procedure is established. This new result is used to obtain bootstrap confidence bands for the population distribution function and to perform the bootstrap Kolmogorov test in the presence of auxiliary information. Other applications include bootstrapping means and variances with auxiliary information. Three simulation studies are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed bootstrap procedure for small samples.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with statistical inference for partially nonlinear models. Empirical likelihood method for parameter in nonlinear function and nonparametric function is investigated. The empirical log-likelihood ratios are shown to be asymptotically chi-square and then the corresponding confidence intervals are constructed. By the empirical likelihood ratio functions, we also obtain the maximum empirical likelihood estimators of the parameter in nonlinear function and nonparametric function, and prove the asymptotic normality. A simulation study indicates that, compared with normal approximation-based method and the bootstrap method, the empirical likelihood method performs better in terms of coverage probabilities and average length/widths of confidence intervals/bands. An application to a real dataset is illustrated.  相似文献

The problem of building bootstrap confidence intervals for small probabilities with count data is addressed. The law of the independent observations is assumed to be a mixture of a given family of power series distributions. The mixing distribution is estimated by nonparametric maximum likelihood and the corresponding mixture is used for resampling. We build percentile-t and Efron percentile bootstrap confidence intervals for the probabilities and we prove their consistency in probability. The new theoretical results are supported by simulation experiments for Poisson and geometric mixtures. We compare percentile-t and Efron percentile bootstrap intervals with eight other bootstrap or asymptotic theory based intervals. It appears that Efron percentile bootstrap intervals outperform the competitors in terms of coverage probability and length.  相似文献

Bootstrap in functional linear regression   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We have considered the functional linear model with scalar response and functional explanatory variable. One of the most popular methodologies for estimating the model parameter is based on functional principal components analysis (FPCA). In recent literature, weak convergence for a wide class of FPCA-type estimates has been proved, and consequently asymptotic confidence sets can be built. In this paper, we have proposed an alternative approach in order to obtain pointwise confidence intervals by means of a bootstrap procedure, for which we have obtained its asymptotic validity. Besides, a simulation study allows us to compare the practical behaviour of asymptotic and bootstrap confidence intervals in terms of coverage rates for different sample sizes.  相似文献

Confidence Intervals Based on Local Linear Smoother   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Point-wise confidence intervals for a non-parametric regression function in conjunction with the popular local linear smoother are considered. The confidence intervals are based on the asymptotic normal distribution of the local linear smoother. Their coverage accuracy is evaluated by developing Edgeworth expansion for the coverage probability. It is found that the coverage error near the boundary of the support of the regression function is of a larger order than that in the interior, which implies that the local linear smoother is not adaptive to the boundary in terms of coverage. This is quite unexpected as the local linear smoother is adaptive to the boundary in terms of the mean squared error.  相似文献

The widely used linear model of the unexpected earnings/returns relationship has been challenged. In this article we propose a flexible nonparametric approach to study this relationship in which splines are used to approximate the unknown regression function. Spline confidence bands are constructed based on wild bootstrap to examine the adequacy of certain linear/nonlinear specifications. Monte Carlo results show that the proposed bands have excellent coverage of the true regression function with little computing load. These properties make the procedure highly recommended for extracting information from large and complicated datasets. The proposed approach has also been applied to the real world financial data from the unexpected earnings/returns study, and we find significant evidence of nonlinearity. The nonlinearity persists when we control the measurement errors of the earning surprises and firm size.  相似文献

The authors study the empirical likelihood method for linear regression models. They show that when missing responses are imputed using least squares predictors, the empirical log‐likelihood ratio is asymptotically a weighted sum of chi‐square variables with unknown weights. They obtain an adjusted empirical log‐likelihood ratio which is asymptotically standard chi‐square and hence can be used to construct confidence regions. They also obtain a bootstrap empirical log‐likelihood ratio and use its distribution to approximate that of the empirical log‐likelihood ratio. A simulation study indicates that the proposed methods are comparable in terms of coverage probabilities and average lengths of confidence intervals, and perform better than a normal approximation based method.  相似文献
