Bayes and classical estimators have been obtained for a two-parameter exponentiated Pareto distribution for when samples are available from complete, type I and type II censoring schemes. Bayes estimators have been developed under a squared error loss function as well as under a LINEX loss function using priors of non-informative type for the parameters. It has been seen that the estimators obtained are not available in nice closed forms, although they can be easily evaluated for a given sample by using suitable numerical methods. The performances of the proposed estimators have been compared on the basis of their simulated risks obtained under squared error as well as under LINEX loss functions.  相似文献

The problem of estimating ordered quantiles of two exponential populations is considered, assuming equality of location parameters (minimum guarantee times), using the quadratic loss function. Under order restrictions, we propose new estimators which are the isotonized version of the MLEs, call it, restricted MLE. A sufficient condition for improving equivariant estimators is derived under order restrictions on the quantiles. Consequently, estimators improving upon the old estimators have been derived. A detailed numerical study has been done to evaluate the performance of proposed estimators using the Monte-Carlo simulation method and recommendations have been made for the use of the estimators.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The paper deals with Bayes estimation of the exponentiated Weibull shape parameters under linex loss function when independent non-informative type of priors are available for the parameters. Generalized maximum likelihood estimators have also been obtained. Performances of the proposed Bayes estimator, generalized maximum likelihood estimators, posterior mean (i.e., Bayes estimator under squared error loss function) and maximum likelihood estimators have been studied on the basis of their risks under linex loss function. The comparison is based on a simulation study because the expressions for risk functions of these estimators cannot be obtained in nice closed forms.  相似文献

In this article, we introduce a new scheme called joint progressive type-I (JPC-I) censored and as a special case, joint type-I censored scheme. Bayesian and non Bayesian estimators have been obtained for two exponential populations under both JPC-I censored scheme and joint type-I censored. The maximum likelihood estimators of the parameters, the asymptotic variance covariance matrix, have been obtained. Bayes estimators have been developed under squared error loss function using independent gamma prior distributions. Moreover, approximate confidence region based on the asymptotic normality of the maximum likelihood estimators and credible confidence region from a Bayesian viewpoint are also discussed and compared with two Bootstrap confidence regions. A numerical illustration for these new results is given.  相似文献

In this paper, maximum likelihood and Bayes estimators of the parameters, reliability and hazard functions have been obtained for two-parameter bathtub-shaped lifetime distribution when sample is available from progressive Type-II censoring scheme. The Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method is used to compute the Bayes estimates of the model parameters. It has been assumed that the parameters have gamma priors and they are independently distributed. Gibbs within the Metropolis–Hasting algorithm has been applied to generate MCMC samples from the posterior density function. Based on the generated samples, the Bayes estimates and highest posterior density credible intervals of the unknown parameters as well as reliability and hazard functions have been computed. The results of Bayes estimators are obtained under both the balanced-squared error loss and balanced linear-exponential (BLINEX) loss. Moreover, based on the asymptotic normality of the maximum likelihood estimators the approximate confidence intervals (CIs) are obtained. In order to construct the asymptotic CI of the reliability and hazard functions, we need to find the variance of them, which are approximated by delta and Bootstrap methods. Two real data sets have been analyzed to demonstrate how the proposed methods can be used in practice.  相似文献

In this article, we obtained Bayes estimators of parameters of Inverse Gaussian distributions under asymmetric loss function using Lindley's Approximation (L-Approximation). The proposed estimators have been compared with the corresponding estimators obtained under symmetric loss function and MLE for their risks. This comparison is illustrated using Monte-Carlo study of 2,000 simulated sample from the Inverse Gaussian distribution.  相似文献

In the classical (univariare) linear model, bearing the plausibility of a subset of the regression parameters being close to a pivot, shrinkage least squares estimation of the complementary subset is considered. Based on the usual James-Stein rule, shrinkage least squares estimators are constructed, and under an asymptotic setup (allowing the shrinkage parameters to be 'close to ' the pivot), the relative performance of such estimators and the prcliminary test estimators is studied. In this context, the normality of the errors is also avoided under the same asymptotic setup. None of the shrinkage and preliminary test estimators may dominate the other (in the light of the asymptotic distributional risk criterion, as has been developed here), though each of them fares well relative to the classical least squeres estimator. The chice of the shrinkage factor is also examined properly.  相似文献

This article deals with progressive first-failure censoring, which is a generalization of progressive censoring. We derive maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters and reliability characteristics of generalized inverted exponential distribution using progressive first-failure censored samples. The asymptotic confidence intervals and coverage probabilities for the parameters are obtained based on the observed Fisher's information matrix. Bayes estimators of the parameters and reliability characteristics under squared error loss function are obtained using the Lindley approximation and importance sampling methods. Also, highest posterior density credible intervals for the parameters are computed using importance sampling procedure. A Monte Carlo simulation study is conducted to analyse the performance of the estimators derived in the article. A real data set is discussed for illustration purposes. Finally, an optimal censoring scheme has been suggested using different optimality criteria.  相似文献

For longitudinal data, the within-subject dependence structure and covariance parameters may be of practical and theoretical interests. The estimation of covariance parameters has received much attention and been studied mainly in the framework of generalized estimating equations (GEEs). The GEEs method, however, is sensitive to outliers. In this paper, an alternative set of robust generalized estimating equations for both the mean and covariance parameters are proposed in the partial linear model for longitudinal data. The asymptotic properties of the proposed estimators of regression parameters, non-parametric function and covariance parameters are obtained. Simulation studies are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed estimators under different contaminations. The proposed method is illustrated with a real data analysis.  相似文献

The estimation of a linear combination of several restricted location parameters is addressed from a decision-theoretic point of view. Although the corresponding linear combination of the unbiased estimators is minimax under the restricted problem, it has a drawback of taking values outside the restricted parameter space. Thus, it is reasonable to use the linear combination of the restricted estimators such as maximum likelihood or truncated estimators. In this paper, a necessary and sufficient condition for such restricted estimators to be minimax is derived, and it is shown that the restricted estimators are not minimax when the number of the location parameters is large. The condition for minimaxity is examined for some specific distributions. Finally, similar problems of estimating the product and sum of the restricted scale parameters are studied, and it is shown that analogous non-dominance properties appear when the number of the scale parameters is large.  相似文献

Kundu and Gupta [Analysis of hybrid life-tests in presence of competing risks. Metrica. 2007;65:159–170] provided the analysis of Type-I hybrid censored competing risks data, when the lifetime distributions of the competing cause of failures follows exponential distribution. In this paper, we consider the analysis of Type-II hybrid censored competing risks data. It is assumed that latent lifetime distributions of the competing causes of failures follow independent exponential distributions with different scale parameters. It is observed that the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters do not always exist. We propose the modified estimators of the scale parameters, which coincide with the corresponding maximum likelihood estimators when they exist, and asymptotically they are equivalent. We obtain the exact distribution of the proposed estimators. Using the exact distributions of the proposed estimators, associated confidence intervals are obtained. The asymptotic and bootstrap confidence intervals of the unknown parameters are also provided. Further, Bayesian inference of some unknown parametric functions under a very flexible Beta-Gamma prior is considered. Bayes estimators and associated credible intervals of the unknown parameters are obtained using the Monte Carlo method. Extensive Monte Carlo simulations are performed to see the effectiveness of the proposed estimators and one real data set has been analysed for the illustrative purposes. It is observed that the proposed model and the method work quite well for this data set.  相似文献

In this article, we have suggested some classes of estimators for estimating finite population median using information on an auxiliary variable. To study the properties of suggested classes of estimators under large sample approximation, a generalized class of estimators has been suggested with its properties. It has been shown that the suggested classes of estimators are more efficient than other existing estimators. The results have been illustrated through an empirical study.  相似文献

Several researchers considered various interval estimators for estimating the population coefficient of variation (CV) of symmetric and skewed distributions. Since they considered at different times and under different simulation conditions, their performances are not comparable as a whole. In this article, an attempt has been made to review some existing estimators along with some proposed methods and compare them under the same simulation condition. In particular, we have considered Hendricks and Robey, Mckay, Miller, Sharma and Krishna, Curto and Pinto, and also some bootstrap proposed interval estimators for estimating the population CV. A simulation study has been conducted to compare the performance of the estimators. Both average widths and coverage probabilities are considered as a criterion of the good estimators. Two real life health related data sets are analyzed to illustrate the findings of the article. Based on the simulation study, some possible good interval estimators have been recommended for the practitioners.  相似文献

Abstract

Examining the robustness properties of maximum likelihood (ML) estimators of parameters in exponential power and generalized t distributions has been considered together. The well-known asymptotic properties of ML estimators of location, scale and added skewness parameters in these distributions are studied. The ML estimators for location, scale and scale variant (skewness) parameters are represented as an iterative reweighting algorithm (IRA) to compute the estimates of these parameters simultaneously. The artificial data are generated to examine performance of IRA for ML estimators of parameters simultaneously. We make a comparison between these two distributions to test the fitting performance on real data sets. The goodness of fit test and information criteria approve that robustness and fitting performance should be considered together as a key for modeling issue to have the best information from real data sets.  相似文献

Adaptive estimation of parameters of some failure time distributionsis considered. A new procedure named the F-procedure has beendeveloped for selecting an appropriate model out of two possible models by Pandey et.al. (1991). Applying this F-procedure adaptive estimatorsof parameters of exponential, Wei bull, inverse Gaussian (IG) and Wald failure time distributions have been proposed in this paper. Comparison of these estimators has been undertaken with MLE's of the respective parameters and with some previous adaptiveestimators by simulation of samples using the Monte Carlo method.Adaptive estimation of parameters of some failure time distributions is considered. Chirp signals are quite common in many natural and man-made systems such as audio signals, sonar, and radar. Estimation of the unknown parameters of a signal is a fundamental problem in statistical signal processing. Recently, Kundu and Nandi [Parameter estimation of chirp signals in presence of stationary noise. Stat Sin. 2008;75:187–201] studied the asymptotic properties of least squares estimators (LSEs) of the unknown parameters of a simple chirp signal model under the assumption of stationary noise. In this paper, we propose periodogram-type estimators called the approximate least squares estimators (ALSEs) to estimate the unknown parameters and study the asymptotic properties of these estimators under the same error assumptions. It is observed that the ALSEs are strongly consistent and asymptotically equivalent to the LSEs. Similar to the periodogram estimators, these estimators can also be used as initial guesses to find the LSEs of the unknown parameters. We perform some numerical simulations to see the performance of the proposed estimators and compare them with the LSEs and the estimators proposed by Lahiri et al. [Efficient algorithm for estimating the parameters of two dimensional chirp signal. Sankhya B. 2013;75(1):65–89]. We have analysed two real data sets for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

The generalized cross-validation (GCV) method has been a popular technique for the selection of tuning parameters for smoothing and penalty, and has been a standard tool to select tuning parameters for shrinkage models in recent works. Its computational ease and robustness compared to the cross-validation method makes it competitive for model selection as well. It is well known that the GCV method performs well for linear estimators, which are linear functions of the response variable, such as ridge estimator. However, it may not perform well for nonlinear estimators since the GCV emphasizes linear characteristics by taking the trace of the projection matrix. This paper aims to explore the GCV for nonlinear estimators and to further extend the results to correlated data in longitudinal studies. We expect that the nonlinear GCV and quasi-GCV developed in this paper will provide similar tools for the selection of tuning parameters in linear penalty models and penalized GEE models.  相似文献

This article investigates the performance of the shrinkage estimator (SE) of the parameters of a simple linear regression model under the LINEX loss criterion. The risk function of the estimator under the asymmetric LINEX loss is derived and analyzed. The moment-generating functions and the first two moments of the estimators are also obtained. The risks of the SE have been compared numerically with that of pre-test and least-square estimators (LSEs) under the LINEX loss criterion. The numerical comparison reveals that under certain conditions the LSE is inadmissible, and the SE is the best among the three estimators.  相似文献

In this paper, the statistical inference of the unknown parameters of a two-parameter inverse Weibull (IW) distribution based on the progressive type-II censored sample has been considered. The maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) cannot be obtained in explicit forms, hence the approximate MLEs are proposed, which are in explicit forms. The Bayes and generalized Bayes estimators for the IW parameters and the reliability function based on the squared error and Linex loss functions are provided. The Bayes and generalized Bayes estimators cannot be obtained explicitly, hence Lindley's approximation is used to obtain the Bayes and generalized Bayes estimators. Furthermore, the highest posterior density credible intervals of the unknown parameters based on Gibbs sampling technique are computed, and using an optimality criterion the optimal censoring scheme has been suggested. Simulation experiments are performed to see the effectiveness of the different estimators. Finally, two data sets have been analysed for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

This article advocates the problem of estimating the population variance of the study variable using information on certain known parameters of an auxiliary variable. A class of estimators for population variance using information on an auxiliary variable has been defined. In addition to many estimators, usual unbiased estimator, Isaki's (1983), Upadhyaya and Singh's (1999), and Kadilar and Cingi's (2006) estimators are shown as members of the proposed class of estimators. Asymptotic expressions for bias and mean square error of the proposed class of estimators have been obtained. An empirical study has been carried out to judge the performance of the various estimators of population variance generated from the proposed class of estimators over usual unbiased estimator, Isaki's (1983), Upadhyaya and Singh's (1999) and Kadilar and Cingi's (2006) estimators.  相似文献
