Fractional factorial split-plot (FFSP) designs have received much attention in recent years. In this article, the matrix representation for FFSP designs with multi-level factors is first developed, which is an extension of the one proposed by Bingham and Sitter (1999b) for the two-level case. Based on this representation, periodicity results of maximum resolution and minimum aberration for such designs are derived. Differences between FFSP designs with multi-level factors and those with two-level factors are highlighted. 相似文献

In a mixture experiment the measured response is assumed to depend only on the relative proportion of ingredients or components present in the mixture. Scheffe (1958, 1963) first systematically considered this problem and introduced different models and designs suitable in such situations. Optimum designs for the estimation of parameters of different mixture models are available in the literature. The problem of estimating the optimum proportion of mixture components is of great practical importance. Pal and Mandal (2006, 2007) attempted to find a solution to this problem by adopting a pseudo-Bayesian approach and using the trace criterion. Subsequently, Pal and Mandal (2008) solved the problem using minimax criterion. In this article, the deficiency criterion due to Chatterjee and Mandal (1981) has been used as a measure for comparing the performance of competing designs. 相似文献

Change-over designs with independently distributed errors in the model have been studied extensively in the literature. Martin and Eccleston (2001) gave an algorithm for the generation of efficient change-over designs when the errors are correlated. This article proposes an algorithm for the generation of efficient change-over designs for estimation of direct effects of treatments in the presence of first-order residual effects in the model and when the errors are correlated. 相似文献

We adopt boosting for classification and selection of high-dimensional binary variables for which classical methods based on normality and non singular sample dispersion are inapplicable. Boosting seems particularly well suited for binary variables. We present three methods of which two combine boosting with the relatively classical variable selection methods developed in Wilbur et al. (2002). Our primary interest is variable selection in classification with small misclassification error being used as validation of proposed method for variable selection. Two of the new methods perform uniformly better than Wilbur et al. (2002) in one set of simulated and three real life examples. 相似文献

Two-level regular fractional factorial designs are often used in industry as screening designs to help identify early on in an experimental process those experimental or system variables which have significant effects on the process being studied. When the experimental material to be used in the experiment is heterogenous or the experiment must be performed over several well-defined time periods, blocking is often used as a means to improve experimental efficiency by removing the possible effects of heterogenous experimental material or possible time period effects. In a recent article, Li and Jacroux (2007) suggested a strategy for constructing optimal follow-up designs for blocked fractional factorial designs using the well-known foldover technique in conjunction with several optimality criteria. In this article, we consider the reverse foldover problem for blocked fractional factorial designs. In particular, given a 2(m+p)?(p+k) blocked fractional factorial design D, we derive simple sufficient conditions which can be used to determine if there exists a 2(m+p?1)?(p?1+k+1) initial fractional factorial design d which yields D as a foldover combined design as well how to generate all such d. Such information is useful in developing an overall experimental strategy in situations where an experimenter wants an overall blocked fractional factorial design with “desirable” properties but also wants the option of analyzing the observed data at the halfway mark to determine if the significant experimental variables are obvious (and the experiment can be terminated) or if a different path of experimentation should be taken from that initially planned. 相似文献

The order of experimental runs in a fractional factorial experiment is essential when the cost of level changes in factors is considered. The generalized foldover scheme given by [1]gives an optimal order to experimental runs in an experiment with specified defining contrasts. An experiment can be specified by a design requirement such as resolution or estimation of some interactions. To meet such a requirement, we can find several sets of defining contrasts. Applying the generalized foldover scheme to these sets of defining contrasts, we obtain designs with different numbers of level changes and then the design with minimum number of level changes. The difficulty is to find all the sets of defining contrasts. An alternative approach is investigated by [2]for two-level fractional factorial experiments. In this article, we consider two different shared frailty regression models under the assumption of Gompertz as baseline distribution. Mostly assumption of gamma distribution is considered for frailty distribution. To compare the results with gamma frailty model, we consider the inverse Gaussian shared frailty model also. We compare these two models to a real life bivariate survival data set of acute leukemia remission times (Freireich et al., 1963). Analysis is performed using Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods. Model comparison is made using Bayesian model selection criterion and a well-fitted model is suggested for the acute leukemia data. 相似文献

This article extends the correlation methodology developed by Chinchilli et al. (2005) for the 2 × 2 crossover design to more complex crossover designs for clinical trials. We describe how the methodology can be adapted to a general type of two-treatment crossover design which includes either at least two sequences or at least two treatment periods or both. We then derive the asymptotic theory for the corresponding correlation statistics, investigate the statistical accuracy of the estimators via bootstrap analyses, and demonstrate their use with two real data examples. 相似文献

In this article we use a new methodology, based on algebraic strata, to generate the class of all the orthogonal arrays of given size and strength. From this class we extract all the non isomorphic orthogonal arrays. Then, using all these non isomorphic orthogonal arrays, we suggest a method based on the inequivalent matrices permutations testing procedures Basso et al. (2004) in order to obtain separate permutation tests for the effects in unreplicated mixed level fractional factorial designs. In order to validate the proposed method we perform a Monte Carlo simulation study and find out that the permutation tests appear to be a valid solution for testing effects, in particular when the usual normality assumptions cannot be justified. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThis paper presents systematic methods of construction of optimal block designs for a double cross experiments for both even and odd values of “p” parental lines. The both even and odd values of designs are derived by using initial block of unreduced balanced incomplete block designs and initial block of row–column designs given by Bose et al. In hierarchical data settings, be it of a longitudinal, spatial, multi-level, clustered, or otherwise repeated nature, often the association between repeated measurements attracts at least part of the scientific interest. Quantifying the association frequently takes the form of a correlation function, including but not limited to intraclass correlation. Vangeneugden et al. (2010) derived approximate correlation functions for longitudinal sequences of general data type, Gaussian and non-Gaussian, based on generalized linear mixed-effects models. Here, we consider the extended model family proposed by Molenberghs et al. (2010). This family flexibly accommodates data hierarchies, intra-sequence correlation, and overdispersion. The family allows for closed-form means, variance functions, and correlation function, for a variety of outcome types and link functions. Unfortunately, for binary data with logit link, closed forms cannot be obtained. This is in contrast with the probit link, for which such closed forms can be derived. It is therefore that we concentrate on the probit case. It is of interest, not only in its own right, but also as an instrument to approximate the logit case, thanks to the well-known probit-logit ‘conversion.’ Next to the general situation, some important special cases such as exchangeable clustered outcomes receive attention because they produce insightful expressions. The closed-form expressions are contrasted with the generic approximate expressions of Vangeneugden et al. (2010) and with approximations derived for the so-called logistic-beta-normal combined model. A simulation study explores performance of the method proposed. Data from a schizophrenia trial are analyzed and correlation functions derived. 相似文献

Suppose that some information is available for the particular factor. The experimenter may apply the technique of foldover to isolate the factor and the two-factor interactions involving this factor. In fact, under some situations this can be done by the method of semi-folding. We will discuss this property in detail in this article. Vangeneugden et al. [15] derived approximate correlation functions for longitudinal sequences of general data type, Gaussian and non-Gaussian, based on generalized linear mixed-effects models (GLMM). Their focus was on binary sequences, as well as on a combination of binary and Gaussian sequences. Here, we focus on the specific case of repeated count data, important in two respects. First, we employ the model proposed by Molenberghs et al. [13], which generalizes at the same time the Poisson-normal GLMM and the conventional overdispersion models, in particular the negative-binomial model. The model flexibly accommodates data hierarchies, intra-sequence correlation, and overdispersion. Second, means, variances, and joint probabilities can be expressed in closed form, allowing for exact intra-sequence correlation expressions. Next to the general situation, some important special cases such as exchangeable clustered outcomes are considered, producing insightful expressions. The closed-form expressions are contrasted with the generic approximate expressions of Vangeneugden et al. [15]. Data from an epileptic-seizures trial are analyzed and correlation functions derived. In this article, the optimal design problem in a fixed effects interference model with left-neighbor effects is studied. It is known (Druilhet, 1999) that circular neighbor balanced designs (CNBDs) are universally optimal in such a model. We prove the universal optimality of circular weakly neighbor balanced designs (CWNBDs), which require a smaller number of blocks than CNBDs. CWNBDs with the number of blocks smaller than the number of treatments belong to the class of partially neighbor balanced designs (PNBDs) defined by Wilkinson et al. (1983). Supersaturated designs is a large class of factorial designs which can be used for screening out the important factors from a large set of potentially active variables. The huge advantage of these designs is that they reduce the experimental cost drastically, but their critical disadvantage is the confounding involved in the statistical analysis. In this article, we propose a method for analyzing data using a specific type of supersaturated designs. This method heavily uses the special block orthogonal structure of the supersaturated designs given by Tang and Wu (1997). Also, we compare our method with several known statistical analysis methods by using some of the existing supersaturated designs. The comparison is performed by some simulating experiments and the Type I and Type II error rates are calculated. The results are presented in tables and the discussion to follow. 相似文献

In this article, we find designs insensitive to the presence of an outlier in a diallel cross design setup for estimating a complete set of orthonormal contrasts among the effects of the general combining abilities of a set of parental lines. The criterion of robustness, suggested by Mandal (1989) in block design setup and used by Biswas (2012) in treatment-control setup, is adapted here. Complete diallel cross designs, suggested by Gupta and Kageyama (1994), and partial diallel cross designs, suggested by Gupta et al. In this article, the problem of estimation of the individual weights of three objects using a chemical balance weighing design is considered. We use the criterion of D-optimality. Multistratum experiments contain several different sizes of experimental units. Examples include split-plot, strip-plot designs, and randomized block designs. We propose a strategy for constructing a D-optimal multistratum design by improving a randomly generated design through a sequence of whole-plot exchanges. This approach preserves the design structure and simplifies updates to the information and is applicable to any multistratum design where the largest-sized experimental unit is either a whole plot or a block. Two whole-plot exchange algorithms inspired by the point-exchange strategies of Fedorov (1972) and Wynn (1972) are described. In many genetic analyses of dichotomous twin data, odds ratios have been used to test hypotheses on heritability and shared common environment effects of a given disease (Lichtenstein et al., 2000; Ahlbom et al., 1997; Ramakrishnan et al., 1992, 4). However, estimates of these two effects have not been dealt with in the literature. In epidemiology, the attributable fraction (AF), a function of the odds ratio and the prevalence of the risk factor has been used to describe the contribution of a risk factor to a disease in a given population (Leviton, 1973). In this article, we adapt the AF to quantify the heritability and the shared common environment. Twin data on cancer, gallstone disease and phobia are used to illustrate the applicability of the AF estimate as a measure of heritability. 相似文献
