Cooray and Ananda introduced a two-parameter generalized Half-Normal distribution which is useful for modelling lifetime data, while its maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) are biased in finite samples. This motivates us to construct nearly unbiased estimators for the unknown parameters of the model. In this paper, we adopt two approaches for bias reduction of the MLEs of the parameters of generalized Half-Normal distribution. The first approach is the analytical methodology suggested by Cox and Snell and the second is based on parametric Bootstrap resampling method. Additionally, the method of moments (MMEs) is used for comparison purposes. The numerical evidence shows that the analytic bias-corrected estimators significantly outperform their bootstrapped-based counterpart for small and moderate samples as well as for MLEs and MMEs. Also, it is apparent from the results that bias- corrected estimates of shape parameter perform better than that of scale parameter. Further, the results show that bias-correction scheme yields nearly unbiased estimates. Finally, six fracture toughness real data sets illustrate the application of our methods.  相似文献

In this article, we establish several recurrence relations for the single and product moments of progressively Type-II right censored order statistics from a generalized logistic distribution. The use of these relations in a systematic manner allow us to compute all the means, variances, and covariances of progressively Type-II right censored order statistics from the generalized logistic distribution for all sample sizes n, effective sample sizes m, and all progressive censoring schemes (R1, …, Rm). These moments are then utilized to derive best linear unbiased estimators of the scale and location-scale parameters of the generalized logistic distribution. A comparison of these estimators with the maximum likelihood estimates is then made through Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, the best linear unbiased predictors of censored failure times is discussed briefly.  相似文献

The POT (Peaks-Over-Threshold) approach consists of using the generalized Pareto distribution (GPD) to approximate the distribution of excesses over thresholds. In this article, we establish the asymptotic normality of the well-known extreme quantile estimators based on this POT method, under very general assumptions. As an illustration, from this result, we deduce the asymptotic normality of the POT extreme quantile estimators in the case where the maximum likelihood (ML) or the generalized probability-weighted moments (GPWM) methods are used. Simulations are provided in order to compare the efficiency of these estimators based on ML or GPWM methods with classical ones proposed in the literature.  相似文献

In this paper, we discuss the problem of estimating the mean and standard deviation of a logistic population based on multiply Type-II censored samples. First, we discuss the best linear unbiased estimation and the maximum likelihood estimation methods. Next, by appropriately approximating the likelihood equations we derive approximate maximum likelihood estimators for the two parameters and show that these estimators are quite useful as they do not need the construction of any special tables (as required for the best linear unbiased estimators) and are explicit estimators (unlike the maximum likelihood estimators which need to be determined by numerical methods). We show that these estimators are also quite efficient, and derive the asymptotic variances and covariance of the estimators. Finally, we present an example to illustrate the methods of estimation discussed in this paper.  相似文献

It is known that the maximum likelihood methods does not provide explicit estimators for the mean and standard deviation of the normal distribution based on Type II censored samples. In this paper we present a simple method of deriving explicit estimators by approximating the likelihood equations appropriately. We obtain the variances and covariance of these estimators. We also show that these estimators are almost as eficient as the maximum likelihood (ML) estimators and just as eficient as the best linear unbiased (BLU), and the modified maximum likelihood (MML) estimators. Finally, we illustrate this method of estimation by applying it to Gupta's and Darwin's data.  相似文献

In this paper, we establish several recurrence relations for the single and product moments of progressively Type-II right censored order statistics from a logistic distribution. The use of these relations in a systematic manner allows us to compute all the means, variances and covariances of progressively Type-II right censored order statistics from the logistic distribution for all sample sizes n, effective sample sizes m, and all progressive censoring schemes (R1,…,Rm). The results established here generalize the corresponding results for the usual order statistics due to [Shah, 1966] and [Shah, 1970]. These moments are then utilized to derive best linear unbiased estimators of the location and scale parameters of the logistic distribution. A comparison of these estimators with the maximum likelihood estimations is then made. The best linear unbiased predictors of censored failure times are briefly discussed. Finally, an illustrative example is presented.  相似文献

The authors derive the moment, maximum likelihood, and mixture estimators of parameters of the gamma distribution with presence of two outliers generated from uniform distribution. These estimators are compared empirically when all the parameters are unknown; their bias and mean squared error are investigated with the help of numerical technique. The authors shown that these estimators are asymptotically unbiased. At the end, they conclude that mixture estimators are better than the maximum likelihood and moment estimators.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new three-parameter model called the exponential–Weibull distribution, which includes as special models some widely known lifetime distributions. Some mathematical properties of the proposed distribution are investigated. We derive four explicit expressions for the generalized ordinary moments and a general formula for the incomplete moments based on infinite sums of Meijer's G functions. We also obtain explicit expressions for the generating function and mean deviations. We estimate the model parameters by maximum likelihood and determine the observed information matrix. Some simulations are run to assess the performance of the maximum likelihood estimators. The flexibility of the new distribution is illustrated by means of an application to real data.  相似文献

Estimation of parameters of a right truncated exponential distribution   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The maximum likelihood, moment and mixture of the estimators are for samples from the right truncated exponential distribution. The estimators are compared empirically when all the parameters are unknown; their bias and mean square error are investigated with the help of numerical technique. We have shown that these estimators are asymptotically unbiased. At the end, we conclude that mixture estimators are better than the maximum likelihood and moment estimators.  相似文献

This paper deals with estimation of parameters and the mean life of a mixed failure time distribution that has a discrete probability mass at zero and an exponential distribution with mean O for positive values. A new sampling scheme similar to Jayade and Prasad (1990) is proposed for estimation of parameters. We derive expressions for biases and mean square errors (MSEs) of the maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs). We also obtain the uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimators (UMVUEs) of the parameters. We compare the estimator of O and mean life fj based on the proposed sampling scheme with the estimators obtained by using the sampling scheme of Jayade and Prasad (1990).  相似文献

In the model of progressive type II censoring, point and interval estimation as well as relations for single and product moments are considered. Based on two-parameter exponential distributions, maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs), uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimators (UMVUEs) and best linear unbiased estimators (BLUEs) are derived for both location and scale parameters. Some properties of these estimators are shown. Moreover, results for single and product moments of progressive type II censored order statistics are presented to obtain recurrence relations from exponential and truncated exponential distributions. These relations may then be used to compute all the means, variances and covariances of progressive type II censored order statistics based on exponential distributions for arbitrary censoring schemes. The presented recurrence relations simplify those given by Aggarwala and Balakrishnan (1996)  相似文献

The use of a scale invariance criterion allows estimation of the shape parameter of the two parameter gamma distribution without estimating the scale parameter. Simulation experiments are used to show that the resulting estimators of both parameters are better than the usual maximum likelihood estimators in terms of both bias and mean square error. Approximately unbiased versions of the maximal invariant based estimators are derived and are shown to be as good as approximately unbiased versions of the usual maximum likelihood estimators  相似文献

In this study, we present different estimation procedures for the parameters of the Poisson–exponential distribution, such as the maximum likelihood, method of moments, modified moments, ordinary and weighted least-squares, percentile, maximum product of spacings, Cramer–von Mises and the Anderson–Darling maximum goodness-of-fit estimators and compare them using extensive numerical simulations. We showed that the Anderson–Darling estimator is the most efficient for estimating the parameters of the proposed distribution. Our proposed methodology was also illustrated in three real data sets related to the minimum, average and the maximum flows during October at São Carlos River in Brazil demonstrating that the PE distribution is a simple alternative to be used in hydrological applications.  相似文献

In this work, we propose a technique of estimating the location parameter μ and scale parameter σ of Type-I generalized logistic distribution by U-statistics constructed by using best linear functions of order statistics as kernels. The efficiency comparison of the proposed estimators with respect to maximum likelihood estimators is also made.  相似文献

Abstract

Statistical distributions are very useful in describing and predicting real world phenomena. In many applied areas there is a clear need for the extended forms of the well-known distributions. Generally, the new distributions are more flexible to model real data that present a high degree of skewness and kurtosis. The choice of the best-suited statistical distribution for modeling data is very important.

In this article, we proposed an extended generalized Gompertz (EGGo) family of EGGo. Certain statistical properties of EGGo family including distribution shapes, hazard function, skewness, limit behavior, moments and order statistics are discussed. The flexibility of this family is assessed by its application to real data sets and comparison with other competing distributions. The maximum likelihood equations for estimating the parameters based on real data are given. The performances of the estimators such as maximum likelihood estimators, least squares estimators, weighted least squares estimators, Cramer-von-Mises estimators, Anderson-Darling estimators and right tailed Anderson-Darling estimators are discussed. The likelihood ratio test is derived to illustrate that the EGGo distribution is better than other nested models in fitting data set or not. We use R software for simulation in order to perform applications and test the validity of this model.  相似文献

The two-parameter weighted Lindley distribution is useful for modeling survival data, whereas its maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) are biased in finite samples. This motivates us to construct nearly unbiased estimators for the unknown parameters. We adopt a “corrective” approach to derive modified MLEs that are bias-free to second order. We also consider an alternative bias-correction mechanism based on Efron’s bootstrap resampling. Monte Carlo simulations are conducted to compare the performance between the proposed and two previous methods in the literature. The numerical evidence shows that the bias-corrected estimators are extremely accurate even for very small sample sizes and are superior than the previous estimators in terms of biases and root mean squared errors. Finally, applications to two real datasets are presented for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

We proposed a new class of maximum a posteriori estimators for the parameters of the Gamma distribution. These estimators have simple closed-form expressions and can be rewritten as a bias-corrected maximum likelihood estimators presented by Ye and Chen [Closed-form estimators for the gamma distribution derived from likelihood equations. Am Statist. 2017;71(2):177–181]. A simulation study was carried out to compare different estimation procedures. Numerical results revels that our new estimation scheme outperforms the existing closed-form estimators and produces extremely efficient estimates for both parameters, even for small sample sizes.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a mixture of two uniform distributions and derive L-moment estimators of its parameters. Three possible ways of mixing two uniforms, namely with neither overlap nor gap, with overlap, and with gap, are studied. The performance of these L-moment estimators in terms of bias and efficiency is compared to that obtained by means of the conventional method of moments (MM), modified maximum likelihood (MML) method and the usual maximum likelihood (ML) method. These intensive simulations reveal that MML estimators are the best in most of the cases, and the L-moment estimators are less subject to bias in estimation for some mixtures and more efficient in most of the cases than the conventional MM estimators. The L-moment estimators are, in some cases, more efficient than the ML and MML estimators.  相似文献
