The School: The Crossroads for Collaboration

This essay argues that the time has come to restructure schools to allow the “whole” child to receive service at the school. The provision of time, place, and personnel to respond to the needs of today's children might facilitate their academic progress. If students and families can find support in one location, perhaps anxiety can be reduced and academics can be strengthened. The school can do little on its own to help children whose lives are in chaos due to poverty, hunger, abuse, ill health, family disintegration, neglect, fear, or hopelessness. Collateral collaboration needs to evolve in which professional development is a shared responsibility of all agencies that serve a community.     

The Broader System Begins With The Workplace

Most practitioners trained in family therapy are employed in host agencies which are not family therapy services. In these environments an ongoing challenge is to find constructive ways to manage the contraints of the employing agency. Central to meeting this challenge is the practitioner's ability to make sense of the host agency's local conditions. This paper offers a framework for developing an explicit awareness of these local conditions. It is the authors' view that an advanced level of ‘local knowledge’ allows for more creativity in managing the inevitably challenging experience of practice in human service agencies.     

The Bengal Connection: Transnationalising America in The Namesake and The Tree Bride

Abstract

A reading is presented of The Namesake and The Tree Bride as diasporic novels that transnationalise the host culture by inscribing the ethnicity and history of Bengal on to the cultural topography of America. This interpolation is contextualised both in terms of the 'Bengal connection' — the now occluded saga of Bengal's rich commercial and intellectual contacts with New England from the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries — and the changing paradigms of immigrant socialisation from the melting pot to multiculturalism and beyond. The inference drawn is that the non-Eurocentric and non-Atlantic 'Bengal connection', which may be taken as emblematic of other such strands in American society, not only troubles monologic myths of 'Americanness', but simultaneously interrogates the sufficiency of the 'Atlantic' template as the marker of a multi-ethnic nation. A suggested alternative is Tagore's 'vernacular nationalism' that admits intrinsic otherness as integral to its conception of national identity.

随着计算机与互联网技术的飞速发展,高等教育也逐渐进入了"互联网+"时代,并为学生、传统课堂教学以及教师注入了新的血液与活力。其中,翻转课堂教学模式便是典型代表。旅游学科教学本应具有生动性、互动性、情境性、实践性等特点,但传统的旅游学科教学在这些方面做得还远远不够。本文通过对翻转课堂以及国内翻转课堂下的旅游学科教学的阐述,总结出"互联网+"时代背景下翻转课堂对旅游学科建设的几点启示。面对新形势下提出的新要求,实施翻转课堂教学将给旅游学科教学带来新的变革。     

后世博时代长三角区域联动效应的同城化研究

世博会是全人类科技、文化、文明盛会的“重大事件”，在世博会结束后的特定时段内对举办城市、国家和地区社会经济发展将产生广泛、深刻、持久的影响与作用，尤其对周边区域的联动发展意义深远。从后世博区域联动效应的空间影响层面看，主要表现为长三角区域的同城化效应，基于区域共同利益的驱动，各相邻城市之间将通过后世博区域联动的扩散效应、放大效应、辐射效应、溢出效应等各种作用的持续影响，不断加强、加速和深化区域一体化在空间上所呈现出的“同质”或“同城”局面。因此，长三角区域应以后世博效应为契机，逐步推动同城化效应在更广更深的领域扩散。

The Primal Scene: The Enigma of Knowing

ABSTRACT

This article explores the ways in which the privileging of the Oedipus complex in psychoanalysis has signaled a forgetting of the primal scene. Through a close reading of Bion’s Cogitations (1992) and Pasolini’s film Oedipus Rex (1967), this article examines the Oedipus myth in relation to the primal scene as represented by Oedipus’s encounter with the Sphinx, hence establishing the Oedipus myth as the ultimate story about the acquisition of knowledge. Drawing on Bion, Laplanche, Faimberg, and others, this article grapples with the paradoxes involved in the process of “getting to know something,” querying the limits of knowing and not knowing, and the nature of such knowledge.     

The Therapist's Response to The Family's Aggression*

Within our own bodies our cells are constantly in a process of repair and disassemblage. It is this process of disassemblage which is the physical analog of psychological destructive ness. In some families, the primary interchanges are not aimed at encouraging constructive ness, and if the family is uncomfortable with this state of affairs they may seek professional help. If the counselor does nothing to relieve the anxiety engendered by their hostile interchanges, the family may view him as just one more discordant element in their unhappy system and leave him very quickly. They may take up the gauntlet with another counselor or they may go on to continue to engage in the process of feeding their energy into the perpetuation of a system which takes up so much of the family's energy that it permits the family to accomplish little else besides maintaining the status quo.
