TMSK Cafe-The marriage of Liuli and culinary arts was unveiled on Beijing's Chang'an Avenue-amid much anticipation on December 20,2005．Striking and ambitious,the space radiates like a Liuli prism,lighting up Beijing at night,with color and excitement. Able to accommodate 33 people, the cafe utilizes 11 tons of Liuli in the decor．With the addition of wood and stone,a mesmerizing illusory facade has been created．

The Wire (sur écoute), série policière ambitieuse des années 2000, peut être vu comme un tel objet d’études riche pour les chercheurs en sciences sociales à la fois comme reflet de la réalité mais aussi comme objet autonome proposant une certaine interprétation des problèmes économiques et sociaux. En tant qu’expérience de pensée de sciences sociales, sa mise en scène provocante de la vie quotidienne d'une coopérative de revente de drogues, la New Day Co-op, interroge les concepts clés des travaux portant sur la coopération, et notamment l'assimilation habituelle entre justice sociale, transformation sociale et démocratie économique. « Matériel empirique » important dans le cadre d'une théorie anti-essentialiste des organisations coopératives, elle est également un appel à la prise en compte d'une démarche réflexive en sciences sociales.

Writing as Pathology,Poison, or Cure Henri-Frédéric Amiel's Journal intime

This article examines the life and work of Henri-Frédéric Amiel, 19th-century Swiss diarist. It argues that his journal provides an exemplary text through which to examine the issues of pathographesis, or the writing out of illness. Situating the diary within the Romantic contexts of melancholy and self-exploration, it shows that Amiel took themes and genre further than ever before, producing a piece of writing that both defines and creates his ills. Amiel's relationship with his diary is tense and tragic: it is therapy but also poison and comes to embody personal and professional sterility. Thus ideas of pathographesis have to be extended to cover the semitextual limbo in which Amiel subsisted, where “writing out” illness was more fraught than merely “writing about” it.     

The Vernacular Life of the Street: Ratsitatanina and Indian Ocean Créolité1

The record of an alleged conspiracy of Madagascar-born slaves and apprentices in Mauritius during 1822 offers a useful vantage onto the vernacular life of the street in the colonial Mascarene islands of the western Indian Ocean. This article examines details of the alleged conspiracy to propose that Ratsitatanina, the accused ringleader, neither planned nor participated in a servile revolt. A close reading of the trial record, however, suggests that the Malagasy language was widely spoken in Mauritius in 1822 and that Malagasy speakers maintained communities in Mascarene diaspora through frequent encounters and vernacular exchanges along urban byways. Together with colonial censuses, these documents challenge scholars to rethink the timing and nature of creolisation in the French slave islands of the western Indian Ocean. Multilingualism and cultural heterogeneity were more salient features of colonial human landscapes during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries than commonly admitted in prevalent models of Indian Ocean créolité. This article proposes a dynamic model of creolisation for the Indian Ocean islands that emphasises the cultural and linguistic agility of subaltern colonial populations.     

La société civile communiste en Pologne et en Hongrie avant et aprés 1989

Les sociétés civiles polonaise et hongroise sont d’habitude présentées comme des forces non négligeables dans la lutte contre le régime communiste. Cependant, dans les deux pays, les anciennes organisations de masse, certes transformées, jouent aujourd’hui un rôle prépondérant au sein de ces mêmes sociétés civiles. Bien que leur nombre soit limité, elles y occupent une position importante à en juger par leurs moyens financiers, le nombre d’adhérents, de bénévoles et d’employés. Autrement dit, tout comme les partis jadis communistes, ces organisations ont su réussir dans les nouvelles conditions. Comment cela a-t-il été rendu possible et quels moyens leur permettent de rivaliser avec d’autres organisations de la société civile ? Cette question ouvre des pistes intéressantes pour discuter, dans des termes plus généraux, la problématique de la conversion de la nomenklatura communiste en Europe centrale. Sous le régime communiste, le leadership des organisations de masse faisait partie de la nomenklatura. Après 1989, non seulement ces organisations ont-elles bien réussi la période de transition, mais aussi leurs dirigeants ont connu une amélioration de leur situation financière par rapport aux années 1980. Cela permet d’examiner la circulation des anciennes élites de la nomenklatura dans le contexte de la transition postcommuniste.

Après avoir commenté plusieurs exemples de mobilisation collective des travailleurs des plateformes dans le monde, l'auteur plaide pour l'adoption d'une approche axée sur les droits de l'homme de ces deux garanties, que divers instruments internationaux consacrent, et que de nombreux tribunaux nationaux et internationaux ont utilisées pour justifier leurs décisions. C'est pour lui la seule façon de protéger tous les travailleurs, indépendamment de leur situation au regard de l'emploi, dans un monde du travail en mutation.
