Clearing the FOG: Fuzzy,overlapping groups for social networks

Humans are well known to belong to many associative groups simultaneously, with various levels of affiliation. However, most group detection algorithms for social networks impose a strict partitioning on nodes, forcing entities to belong to a single group. Link analysis research has produced several methods which detect multiple memberships but force equal membership. This paper extends these approaches by introducing the FOG framework, a stochastic model and group detection algorithm for fuzzy, overlapping groups. We apply our algorithm to both link data and network data, where we use a random walk approach to generate rich links from networks. The results demonstrate that not only can fuzzy groups be located, but also that the strength of membership in a group and the fraction of individuals with exclusive membership are highly informative of emerging group dynamics.     

Issues Related to the Use of Short-Term Groups for Adjustment to Divorce

Programs for divorce adjustment which utilize short-term groups provide a viable treatment intervention for meeting the needs of divorced clients. Through a comparison of such programs, this article identifies and discusses some of the issues and gaps in our present knowledge about the use of short-term groups for adjustment to divorce. Guidelines are provided for practitioners and agencies interested in developing divorce adjustment group programs or modifying existing ones.     

Peer Discussion and Client Motivation in Men's Domestic Violence Programs: An Australian Qualitative Interview Study

Abstract

Relationships Australia NSW and Baptist Community Services NSW & ACT, through its BCS LifeCare Counselling & Family Services program, collaborated to explore client perceptions of men's domestic violence programs. Recruitment targeted male clients and their female partners, across six locations in New South Wales, Australia. In total, 63 qualitative interviews were gathered from 28 participants, between 2007 and 2009, at program intake, program completion and 6-month follow-up. The focus of this article is on the 20 male interviews conducted with 14 participants at program completion (10) and at 6-month follow-up (10). Recurring themes from these interviews indicate the potentially disruptive effect of client dialogue on group dynamics. While positive group discussion has the potential to enhance client motivation, negative peer discussions, external to group sessions, can diminish group functioning and client motivation for these participants. The paradoxical nature of the group-intervention experience is explored in light of these accounts. Suggestions for men's domestic violence program facilitation and research are outlined.     

略论19世纪美国的食品立法及其对当代中国的启示

长期以来,19世纪中叶以后美国严重的食品掺假问题被认为是联邦政府自由放任、缺乏有效监管的结果。因而1906年通过的《联邦食品与药品法》也就被顺势看作美国食品监管进程中的一个重要里程碑。然而,在此之前的19世纪,部分州政府就已针对食品掺假问题进行相关立法,国会也试图颁行全国性法律。某种程度上,19世纪美国州政府和国会的食品立法为1906年联邦法律的出台奠定了法理基础。两者其实是内在连贯发展的关系,体现了美国食品监管的重心由地方而至中央的显著＂联邦化＂趋势。同时,食品立法的艰难和曲折也凸显了美国公共政策制定过程中各利益集团之间的博弈机制。     

Perspectivities in irreducible collineation groups of projective planes,II

Collineation groups of finite projective planes are studied which do not leave invariant any point, line or triangle and contain a non-trivial perspectivity. In many instances the collineation group G can be determined, and it can be proved that the underlying projective plane contains a desarguesian subplane, whose order is related to the order of G. This can be done, because one has rather strong results about the structure of G, in particular about the first terms of a chief series of G. Projective planes are taken here as a suitable testing ground for methods, which can be used for many classes of designs to quickly find new examples and obtain some classification.

少数民族流动儿童融入城市公立教育的调查分析——以呼和浩特市为例

少数民族流动儿童的教育融入关系到民族团结与社会稳定。基于对呼和浩特市少数民族流动儿童的问卷调查发现,少数民族流动儿童还没有真正融入城市公立学校,但却有着强烈的融入愿望。据此认为,政府要成为少数民族流动儿童教育融入的保障者,公立学校要成为少数民族流动儿童教育融入的承担者,学校教师要成为少数民族流动儿童教育融入的支持者。
