Sensitivity analysis on ruin probabilities with heavy-tailed claims

In this note, we consider the classical insurance risk model with heavy-tailed claim distributions. By using the Pollaczek–Khinchin Formula, we provide some sensitivity analysis on the ruin probability.

Obesity and breastfeeding: The strength of association

Obesity and attendant co-morbidities are an emergent problem in public health. Much attention has focused on prevention, especially during the perinatal period. Breastfeeding is considered a possible protective factor for obesity in childhood, influencing gene–neuroendocrine–environment–lifestyle interaction. Therefore, breastfeeding and its longer duration are probably associated with lower development of childhood obesity. Through human milk, but not formula, the child assumes greater bioactive factors contributing to immunological, endocrine, development, neural and psychological benefits. Contrarily, other studies did not confirm a critical role of breast milk. Confounding factors, especially maternal pre-pregnancy overweight, may influence breastfeeding effects. This review summarises what is known about the possible relationship between breastfeeding and prevention of obesity development.ConclusionBreastfeeding appears to represent a protective factor for obesity in childhood, although evidence is still controversial and underlying mechanisms unclear. Further research is needed to improve knowledge on overweight/obesity and breastfeeding.     

环境友好型技术对水稻种植技术效率的影响——以测土配方施肥技术为例

测土配方施肥技术是我国正在推广的一项环境友好型技术.本文基于2011年江苏省稻农微观调研数据,利用随机前沿分析方法(SFA)探讨测土配方施肥技术对种植技术效率的影响.研究表明:稻农采用测土配方施肥技术有利于水稻种植技术效率的提高,该结论为测土配方施肥技术长期推广提供了政策依据.同时,户主为男性、教育年限和水稻商品率对技术效率有显著正向影响,家庭非农收入比例和受灾率对技术效率有显著负向影响.     

Characteristics of Formulas and Data Used in the Allocation of Federal Funds

The formulas and data used for 13 federal programs that allocate funds to state and local areas are described. Suggestions for types of formulas and data appropriate for allocation of funds are made. Some recommendations in the Report on Statistics for Allocation of Funds published by the Office of Federal Statistical Policy and Standards are discussed. The possible effects of the formulas and data used in the allocation of funds for federal programs are examined in the light of the recommendations given in the report.

浓缩饲料配方及其对鸡产蛋性能的影响

用不同配方浓缩饲料喂养产蛋鸡，研究其对产蛋性能和蛋白质的影响，结果表明：与对照组相比，各组产蛋鸡平均采食量、产蛋率、蛋重和料蛋比差异不显著（P＞0．05），料蛋比以Ⅱ组为最高，比对照组提高2．27％。
