Some small-sample results on a bounded influence rank regression method

Naranjo and HeUmansperger (1994) recently derved a bounded influence rank regression method and suggested how hypotheses about the regression coefficients might be tested. This brief note reports some simulation results on how their procedure performs when there is one predictor. Even when the error term is highly skewed, good control over the Type I error probability is obtained Power can be high relative to least squares regression when the error term has a heavy tailed distribution .and the predictor has a symmetric distribution However, if the predictor has a skewed distribution, power can be relatively low even when the distribution of the error term is heavy tailed. Despite this, it is argued that their method provides an important and useful alternative to ordinary least squares as well as other robust regression methods.

对印制电路板(PCB)金手指表面变色进行研究,通过对铜原子扩散的分析,解释了PCB金手指表面变色的原因,即铜原子扩散到PCB金手指表面而被氧化;另外,通过分析铜原子在PCB金手指表面的扩散的内在驱动力,并利用菲克定律结合实际条件得出铜在PCB金手指表面的扩散流量和浓度分布表达式,为在实际运用中防止铜原子在PCB金手指表面的扩散提供了理论依据。     

Forecast mean squared error reductionin the VAR(1) process

When VAR models are used to predict future outcomes, the forecast error can be substantial. Through imposition of restrictions on the off-diagonal elements of the parameter matrix, however, the information in the process may be condensed to the marginal processes. In particular, if the cross-autocorrelations in the system are small and only a small sample is available, then such a restriction may reduce the forecast mean squared error considerably.

In this paper, we propose three different techniques to decide whether to use the restricted or unrestricted model, i.e. the full VAR(1) model or only marginal AR(1) models. In a Monte Carlo simulation study, all three proposed tests have been found to behave quite differently depending on the parameter setting. One of the proposed tests stands out, however, as the preferred one and is shown to outperform other estimators for a wide range of parameter settings.

On the asymptotic distribution of cramer-von mises one-sample test statistics under an alternative

The asymptotic normality of the Cramer-von Mises one-sample test statistic and one of its variants under an alternative cdf is demonstrated. The derivation herein is unique in that it does not require knowledge of the theory of weak convergence of probability measures defined on metrized function spaces, and thus is accessible to a broader class of students and practitioners.     

Estimability and Linear Hypotheses

A proposition is given which provides an easily justified reason as to why attention should be confined to estimable parametric vectors when formulating linear hypotheses. The possibility of justifying one's linear estimation effort on the estimable parametric functions via an identifiability condition is also mentioned.     

Bonding and Bridging Social Capital Development by Social Workers

ABSTRACT

Developing service users’ bonding and bridging social capital is an increasingly recognized role of social workers. A survey of 570 Chinese service users, sampled from 41 social service units in Hong Kong, provided data for the study. Results demonstrated convergent and discriminant validity in a confirmatory factor model about the measurement of bonding and bridging social capital development, mutuality, and assistance to the community. This evidence for the validity and usefulness of social capital development endorses social workers’ role in developing service users’ social capital. Further research needs to assess the generalizability of the present findings in other sociocultural settings.
