On generalized least squares estimation of the weibull distribution

A simple estimation procedure, based on the generalized least squares method, for the parameters of the Weibull distribution is described and investigated. Through a simulation study, this estimation technique is compared with maximum likelihood estimation, ordinary least squares estimation, and Menon's estimation procedure; this comparison is based on observed relative efficiencies (that is, the ratio of the Cramer-Rao lower bound to the observed mean squared error). Simulation results are presented for samples of size 25. Among the estimators considered in this simulation study, the generalized least squares estimator was found to be the "best" estimator for the shape parameter and a close competitor to the maximum likelihood estimator of the scale parameter.     

Some issues in the design of EWMA Charts

The traditional design procedure for selecting the parameters of EWMA charts is based on the average run length (ARL). It is shown that for some types of EWMA charts, such a procedure may lead to high probability of a false out-of-control signal. An alternative procedure based on both the ARL and the standard deviation of run length (SRL) is recommended. It is shown that, with the new procedure, the EWMA chart using its exact variance can detect moderate and large shifts of the process mean faster.     

On the performance of some subset selection procedures

In this paper, we restrict attention to the problem of subset selection of normal populations. The approaches and results of some previous comparison studies of subset selection procedures are discussed briefly. And then the result of a new Monte Carlo study comparing the performance of two classical procedures and the Bayes procedure is presented.     

Multiple Comparisons with More than One Control for Exponential Location Parameters Under Heteroscedasticity

In this article we present a simple bootstrap method for time series. The proposed method is model-free, and hence it enables us to avoid certain situations where the bootstrap samples may contain impossible values due to resampling from the residuals. The method is easy to implement and can be applied to stationary and nonstationary time series. The simulation results and the application to real time series data show that the method works very well.     

Simultaneous Tests for Independence Among Components of Random Vector by Step-Down Multiple Comparison Procedure

In this article, we consider testing independence among components of random vector in multivariate normal population. For testing independence, we use the modified likelihood ratio test statistic which is improved an approximation to χ² distribution of the likelihood ratio test statistic. In order to perform simultaneous tests for independence among components of random vector, we use the step-down multiple comparison procedure based on the closed testing procedure proposed by Marcus et al. (1976 Marcus , R. , Peritz , E. , Gabriel , K. R. ( 1976 ). On closed testing procedures with special reference to ordered analysis of variance . Procedures for Selecting Good Exponential Populations

Suppose exponential populations π _i with parameters (μ_i , σ_i ) (i = 1,2,…,k) are given. This article discusses how to select “good” populations in the sense of [Lam (1986 Lam, K. 1986. The two-stage procedure can be replaced by a one-stage procedure if the second-stage sample is proved intangible. An attracting feature of these procedures is that they need no new statistical tables to implement.

我国刑事庭前审查程序改革与完善

庭前程序承担着为法庭审判准备审判对象和裁判依据的重要功能。1996年修改后的刑事诉讼法赋予了庭前程序新的内涵,但随着实践的不断深入,庭前程序自身存在的一些弊端也日益显现。分析我国刑事庭前程序改革的内容,指出庭前程序在司法运行中所存在的弊端,建议引入预审法官制度以实现其在维护程序的公正、保障犯罪嫌疑人的人权和实现权力的划分和限制的价值,建立和完善符合我国司法实践需要的公正透明的庭前运行机制。
