Talking About Culture With Internationally Adoptive Parents: An Anthropological Perspective

Parents who adopt internationally are commonly implored to expose their children to their “birth cultures.” While this celebration of origins is praiseworthy, the approach to “culture” that it typically involves is arguably problematic. This article discusses what anthropologists mean by culture and how this differs from the way culture is treated in international adoption. It then considers what medical anthropologists have learned through decades of evolving discussions about how to teach “cultural competency” to health care providers and suggests that the insights from these debates can be applied to encourage a more nuanced approach to “cultural competency” among adoptive parents.

经营管理层的业绩直接决定着国内城市商业银行的整体绩效,对经营管理层胜任力的研究已引起相关人力资源管理者和研究者的关注。以问卷调查为基础,采用探索性因子分析和验证性因子分析,结果表明：国内城市商业银行经营管理层胜任力模型由内在素质、关系管理和管理技能三方面构成。

公共部门绩效管理作为新兴的管理模式,一方面,公共部门绩效管理体现着较为明显的工具理性的倾向,并在体系构成上逐渐形成了一整套多种管理工具融合与共同作用的管理方法;另一方面,其更加融合和体现了现代民主对公平、服务、责任与回应性等价值理性的关注。     

酒店高层管理者胜任力模型的构建——对上海、南京部分酒店的实证研究

酒店高层管理人员与酒店业生存和发展休戚相关,采用什么标准来选拔和培养酒店高层管理者受到了各大酒店的关注和重视。酒店业高层管理者胜任力模型的研究为此提供了一个新的视角。本研究采用定性的行为事件访谈和定量的问卷调查法探讨并构建了酒店高层管理者的胜任力模型,并证明酒店高层管理者的胜任力能预测绩效。     

基于胜任特征的高校教师选拔测评体系设计

高校教师胜任特征模型由必备知识族、技能能力族、人格特质族3大族共26个要素组成。本着胜任特征导向、综合全面、重点突出、经济节约的原则,设计的高校人力资源招聘与选拔测评体系包含知识测试、行为性面试、工作样本、无领导小组讨论、大五人格测验、职业偏好量表等一系列测评方法。     

Etherapy: A Training Program for Development of Clinical Skills in Distance Psychotherapy

ABSTRACT

This article describes a project by the Virtual Teaching and Cyberpsychology Laboratory of the National Autonomous University of Mexico developed to (1) implement a teaching program for clinical psychology students to learn therapeutic skills in providing online psychological services; (2) evaluate the students' acquisition of knowledge and skills in diagnosis via the Internet, case formulation of treatment, and adherence to treatment protocols; and (3) incorporate technologies for creating training settings and online professional services in order to develop the students' clinical competency in this treatment modality. A pilot study was conducted with 17 clinical psychology students in the first phase of the teaching program and 6 students during the second phase. Preliminary results indicate that students increased knowledge of Internet-based clinical interventions and improved in clinical skills. It is necessary to continue the evaluation of the teaching program with larger samples, and further research is suggested.     

The Vocabulary Levels of Social Science Magazines

With the realities of standards-based accountability, it is imperative to model and demonstrate for students how subject areas and teaching methods transcend across traditional boundaries. In an effort to prepare future social studies educators to teach for global awareness and to meaningfully integrate critical literacy skills into their instruction, we initiated a collaborative model in our university's middle grades teacher education program with language arts and social studies methods courses. The development of cultural competency not only provides preservice teachers with the knowledge of diverse populations but also enables them to have an increased ability to affirm the cultures of others.     

Public Policy Implications of Elderly Interstate Migration to Oregon, 1985-1990

Abstract

Several Oregon counties received a noticeable influx of elderly migrants from other states during the 1980s. Oregon policy regarding taxes, land use, and long-term care is examined for possible influence on migration. Models of elderly migration are examined for insight into how public policy influences migration, and previous research regarding the effects of elderly migration on public policy is reviewed. Data regarding disability and financial vulnerability among elderly by migration status are analyzed for possible influence upon public policy.

Change in the population aged 65 and older mirrored state and national patterns for 1980 to 1990 and 1990 to 1999. Interstate elderly arriving in attractive counties reported a low prevalence of disability and financial vulnerability, indicating a low risk of demanding public assistance. Interstate elderly arriving in population centers reported a relatively high prevalence of disability but a low prevalence of financial vulnerability. This may suggest that Oregon's long-term care policy influenced elderly migration.     

A Study of Social Workers' Job Satisfaction as Based on an Optimal Model of Care for the Terminally Ill

ABSTRACT

To address the need for empirical evidence on how culture is and should be addressed in child protection work in Australia to ensure equity in service delivery, this study reviewed 120 case files of children from ethnic-minority, Aboriginal, and Anglo backgrounds and conducted 46 qualitative interviews with ethnic-minority client families and the caseworkers who service them. Overall, the results indicated that the issue of culture for ethnic-minority families receives less consideration than it does for Aboriginal families and more than it does for Anglo families, indicating that cross-cultural parity is yet to be achieved. To ensure equity in service delivery, it is important that culture is neither overlooked nor used to essentialize the needs and experiences of ethnic-minority families; balancing the amount of attention that culture receives in child protection work may help “normalize the novel”—that is, reduce the use of cultural stereotypes without reducing the significance of cultural factors in child protection work with culturally nonmainstream families. Mandatory consultation with “multicultural” caseworkers may help get the balance right and warrants future research.     

基于农民专业合作社能人的能力素质模型研究

目前,我国农民专业合作组织发展速度较快,但整体仍处于初级阶段。以农户自发创办为主导形式,以合作社"能人"等关键性生产要素所有者为主要治理结构,是目前我国农民专业合作组织初级发展阶段的重要特征。"能人效应"已成为决定农民专业合作社乃至农村经济社会和谐发展的关键因素。据此,本文从外显能力与内在素质两个维度出发创造性的提出了包含18个要素的合作社"能人"能力素质模型,以期对规范合作社"能人"的选拔、考核和培养具有一定的借鉴意义。
