The Group Topic Evaluation Scale: Preliminary Validity,Reliability, and Use in Psychoeducational Groups

Process measures are important for evaluation of client reaction to psychoeducational group topics. Few scales have been created for measuring client responses in this setting. This study utilized secondary data to determine the initial validity of a Group Topic Evaluation Scale. Group members (N = 190) in a large, urban Driving Under the Influence program evaluated six different group topics using a created scale for a total of 623 responses. Principal component analysis found one factor comprising six items with good reliability. Two of the six topics scored significantly higher, indicating more meaningfulness to the clients. Implications are discussed.     

“To Be Recorded in History”: Researching Iranian Underground Political Activists in Exile

This paper contains ethnographic reflections on my research among Iranian leftists in exile. I discuss challenges of fieldwork and in-depth interviewing about sensitive topics. I particularly emphasize the dynamics of gaining interviewees' trust in a community concerned about political ramifications of revealing personal and organizational secrets. In this respect, I underline the complications of researching and representing a defeated movement. I also write about the gender implications of my research—a male feminist researching the gender dynamics of revolution and the changing sexual politics of revolutionary collectivities in Iran and abroad. Finally, I raise issues concerning doing sociology in translation.     

国内热钱流动的危害及防范治理

近年来,人民币升值预期和国内的房地产、股票市场价格高涨,大量热钱通过各种渠道进入中国,由于热钱流动具有较大的波动性,给我国的经济造成极大危害,并引发了一系列值得我们关注的问题。针对热钱流入中国途径、危害等进行分析,并提出解决问题的对策和办法。     

The Forgotten: Dementia and the Aging LGBT Community

Although research documenting the experience of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered (LGBT) aging in general is gaining traction, and literature on dementia continues to proliferate, few articles attend to how dementia affects members of the aging LGBT community. This article reviews the current state of knowledge on the experience of dementia for LGBT older adults, and suggests areas for further research. In addition, it aims to promote social work’s engagement with related disciplines and global dementia care. The article’s ultimate goal is to encourage development of care practices tailored to the experiences, expectations and needs of older LGBT individuals affected by dementia.

An Examination of Conflict in Emerging Adulthood Between College Students and Their Parents

Abstract

Two hundred seventy-three college students between the ages of 18 and 22 years, and in the midst of what some researchers would refer to as Emerging Adulthood, reported the most common topics of conflict that they experience with their mothers and fathers and provided their perceptions of these conflicts. Female and male emerging adults reported similar topics of conflict with their mothers and fathers. The sex of the emerging adults and that of their parents who were involved in the conflict appeared to play an important role in the complex dynamic related to their perceptions of their parents following the conflict, especially for positive perceptions of fathers and perceptions of fathers' emotional availability and acceptance. The results of this study further the understanding of conflicts that occur between emerging adults and their parents.     

微信朋友圈的话语传播机制分析

新媒介技术的发展改变了人们的生活方式和交往方式,人们将网下的生活移居到网上,习惯于通过网络来进行社会资本的积累。然而,以微博为代表的网络社交平台的大众传播特征使得社会资本容易集中流向网络场域中的强势话语阶层。而微信的“生成”式结构所形成的信息过滤机制,使得每一条信息必须跨过圈与圈的屏障才能够在更大范围内进行传播,这不仅有利于还原信息本身的价值,同时有利于消解网络核心话语节点的话语权力。在此基础上,经过层层过滤的“序参量话题”不仅对人们的生活具有积极的指导意义,也让微信场域中,基于话题本身价值的人际交往更加平等和理性。文章试图从微信朋友圈的“生成”模式入手,分析朋友圈的结构形式,通过描绘朋友圈的话语传播机制,探索在基于内容价值的传播条件下的人与人的关系变化。
