Scholarship on the African American Great Migration insufficiently examines the interactional, emotional, religious, ethno-regional, and generational diversity of migrant experiences. This study applies insights from the transnational migration literature to illuminate complexities of Black internal migration and incorporation during this era. Using data from 47 in-depth interviews with first- and second-generation Louisianans who arrived in Los Angeles between 1931 and 1973, the article elucidates the distinctive organising role that local Catholic religious institutions played in creating and reinforcing transregional collective nostalgia and a sense of ‘being from’ Louisiana during resettlement. First, within the Black migrant concentration in Los Angeles, Louisiana migrants created an enclave in which Catholic parishes were used to geographically organise the city. Second, parishes organised social life and reinforced the migrant community by stimulating co-migrant contact, Louisiana-centred interaction, and support for adaptation. Finally, migrants shaped how parishes functioned by incorporating elements of Louisiana-based practices into Los Angeles routines, thereby preserving continuity between two places in both practical and nostalgic terms.  相似文献

以老字号品牌为研究背景,探讨老字号真实性与品牌承诺和消费者购买意愿的关系,加入怀旧倾向作为调节变量,研究怀旧倾向对该关系的影响。选取天津狗不理餐厅作为研究对象,通过统计工具AMOS 17.0和SPSS 20.0对假设进行检验。结果显示:老字号原真实和自我真实对品牌承诺和购买意愿有正向影响,怀旧倾向正向调节老字号真实性与品牌承诺和购买意愿的关系。从品牌关系角度出发研究真实性与购买意愿之间的关系,为今后老字号品牌的发展开拓了新的视角。  相似文献

The article situates the online culture of YouTube pinup girl hair tutorials within popular and scholarly discourses on post-feminism and the gender politics of the archive. It explores the videos’ genre conventions with particular attention to how their formal aspects engage a post-feminist reimagining of the postwar pinup. The videos invoke an internal tension typifying pinup art between the artifice and self-awareness of the pinup’s aesthetic, and the impression that the poser is caught unaware or in a “natural” state. The article argues that the contradiction between constructed and “natural” beauty, and the videos’ affinity for including hair mistakes or beauty mishaps intuit an absent archive: documenting the manual labor and struggles demanded of these looks that both popular representation and memory of that time period elide. The article connects these absent archives of forgotten beauty skills to broader debates in feminism and popular memory about digital-era desires and fears around recuperating counterhistories and counterarchives.  相似文献

This article examines how Old Delhi is represented and recreated in contemporary India. Delhi’s old city was once the locus of pre-colonial Mughal sovereignty. It is now often encountered via nationalist spectacles, mass-media images and consumption practices. Paralleling neo-liberalism’s onset in the 1990s, its street food, bazaar spaces and historical monuments have been avidly appropriated by reigning institutions and classes. Old Delhi suggests that which the new India has left behind; yet this displacement also elicits longing for what has been lost.

This medieval remnant can therefore be considered the site of nostalgia consumed by a globalised middle class. This article presents an ethnography of Old Delhi’s invocation in New Delhi’s cultural landscape, including malls, newspapers, heritage sites, hotels, and food courts. In triangulating among the realms of nationalist nostalgia, middle-class identity and mediated consumption, it emphasises how India’s neoliberal emergence is bound up with the co-opting of the past.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The article examines contemporary Israeli poetry and visual art by Russian-Jewish artists of the 1.5 generation, artists who were born in the Soviet Union but resettled in Israel during the 1990s. By focusing on the representation of the Soviet–Jewish past in their works, I show that in contrast to the largely negative view of the Soviet experience by the previous generations of Russian-Israeli authors, the historical understanding of the 1.5 generation is fundamentally different. This cohort of artists resists the lachrymose portrayal of Jewish life in the USSR and the “Happily Ever After” finale in Israel. Instead, they propose a counter-narrative that is hinged on a romanticized depiction of life in the USSR and disillusionment in Israel that followed. I argue that nostalgic representations of the Soviet–Jewish past by these artists derive from the suffering, humiliation, and rapid downwards social mobility that the Russian-speaking community experienced in Israel.  相似文献

This article explores both Englishness and nostalgia in the period drama, Downton Abbey (Julian Fellowes, ITV, 2010–). The story of the Earl of Grantham and his family engage the viewer's emotions by recreating a by-gone era, which could actually stir an acute reflexive nostalgia. Given its popularity, we will explore the ideological use of nostalgia for this contemporary performance of Englishness. Through a close narrative analysis, we will further analyse the meanings of both English estates and social class in the series. Thus, we will see how instances of collective nostalgia may reveal underlying cultural values.  相似文献

重写,常常被视为一种文学现象或文学技巧而受到研究者的关注.但是,在后工业社会的当下,在现代性或后现代性成为弥散性文化背景的语境中,重写具有的哲学和美学意涵正日渐凸显.从哲学层面看,重写不仅是人的生命状态,更代表了人们对于“真”的执着探求;从美学层面看,重写则意味着一种含混的和由互文性造就的虚无的审美愉悦;从文学层面看,重写既关涉文学的本质,更是文学的表现形式.在重写成为流行文艺市场不断出现的现象的语境中,重新审视其多层面的内涵,具有重要的现实意义.  相似文献
