What’s keeping you awake at night? Challenges facing trainers in South Africa

Corporate Trainers experience many organizational challenges that require new skills. This qualitative study sought to determine the challenges faced by South African Education Training and Development university students employed as trainers in corporate roles. Findings suggest that trainers require contextual and generic soft skills to meet the requirements of their jobs and that the term trainer embraces a variety of roles of different focus and different status. While there appear to be a common set of problems facing trainers irrespective of location, the interventionist skills and employment policies of the South African government have an important influence on activity in the organization.     

A comprehensive review of quantitative research on crime,the built environment,land use,and physical geography

This paper provides a comprehensive review of space- and place-based criminology, with a focus on the relationship between crime, the built environment, land use, and/or physical geography, through sociological and critical geography lenses. An historical overview of major criminological and spatial theories and contributors is presented before examining the current state of the field. In honor of critical geography's goal to be “a people's geography,”¹ this paper aims to be an accessible overview of space- and place-based criminological research, especially for readers who are unfamiliar with these topics.     

Evaluation plan of the 6for6 research skills program for rural and remote physicians

Overwhelming issues and barriers often prevent rural and remote physicians (RRPs) from pursuing the many socially accountable research questions they encounter on a daily basis. Although research training programs can empower RRPs to rise to these challenges, there is a lack of evidence on how they should be developed and refined. At Memorial University, a faculty development program (FDP) called 6for6 has been helping RRPs surmount their research quagmires and engage in scholarship since 2014. After an initial three-year (2014-17) pilot, we prepared a detailed plan to evaluate the 6for6 research FDP for RRPs and inform future years of delivery. Using a modified Delphi method and participatory action model a group of program team members, stakeholders and evaluation experts developed an evaluation plan including a logic model and an evaluation matrix addressing five key themes. To our knowledge, this is the first evaluation plan for a research-focused FDP targeting RRPs. While this plan was developed specifically for the 6for6 FDP, our approach to its development may be useful to any institution interested in evaluating an FDP with limited resources.     

缝洞型碳酸盐岩孤立溶洞注水替油实验研究

缝洞型碳酸盐岩油藏储层具有多重介质特征,储集体在空间分布上具有不连续性,油水关系复杂,流体渗流机理与砂岩油藏有本质的区别,造成油田开采难度大。注水替油是在油藏依靠自身能量无法达到自喷,并且在机抽都无法举升原油至地面的情况下,通过井口注入地层水,使得油藏能量提升,重新具有自喷能量的一种技术。针对缝洞型碳酸盐岩油气藏的注水替油开发技术还处于探索阶段,尚无普遍适用的成熟技术可以直接应用。从大量的开发实践看,对油田的动态预测和分析,应当在将油藏进一步细分为缝洞单元的基础上进行。为了研究缝洞型油藏流体流动机理及注水替油开采机理,找到一个适合缝洞型油藏合理开发的方法,针对孤立溶洞实际特征,建立物理模型,实验研究其生产动态特征,结合现场注水替油生产,从无因次产量、无因次井底流压、含水率变化曲线得出注采动态变化规律。
