In reliability studies, one typically would assume a lifetime distribution for the units under study and then carry out the required analysis. One popular choice for the lifetime distribution is the family of two-parameter Weibull distributions (with scale and shape parameters) which, through a logarithmic transformation, can be transformed to the family of two-parameter extreme value distributions (with location and scale parameters). In carrying out a parametric analysis of this type, it is highly desirable to be able to test the validity of such a model assumption. A basic tool that is useful for this purpose is a quantile–quantile (QQ) plot, but in its use, the issue of the choice of plotting position arises. Here, by adopting the optimal plotting points based on Pitman closeness criterion proposed recently by Balakrishnan et al. (2010b Balakrishnan , N. , Davies , K. F. , Keating , J. P. , Mason , R. L. ( 2010b ). Computation of optimal plotting points based on Pitman Closeness with an application to goodness of fit for location-scale families. Submitted to Computational Statistics & Data Analysis.  [Google Scholar]), and referred to as simultaneous closeness probability (SCP) plotting points, we propose a correlation-type goodness of fit test for the extreme value distribution. We compute the SCP plotting points for various sample sizes and use them to determine the mean, standard deviation and critical values for the proposed correlation-type test statistic. Using these critical values, we carry out a power study, similar to the one carried out by Kinnison (1989 Kinnison , R. ( 1989 ). Correlation coefficient goodness of fit test for extreme value distribution . The American Statistician 43 : 98100 .[Taylor & Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]), through which we demonstrate that the use of SCP plotting points results in better power than with the use of mean ranks as plotting points and nearly the same power as with the use of median ranks. We then demonstrate the use of the SCP plotting points and the associated correlation-type test for Weibull analysis with an illustrative example. Finally, for the sake of comparison, we also adapt two statistics proposed by Gan and Koehler (1990 Gan , F. F. , Koehler , K. J. ( 1990 ). Goodness of fit based on P-P probability plots . Technometrics 32 : 289303 .[Taylor & Francis Online], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]), in the context of probability–probability (PP) plots, based on SCP plotting points and compare their performance to those based on mean ranks. The empirical study also reveals that the tests from the QQ plot have better power than those from the PP plot.  相似文献

Przystalski and Krajewski (2007 Przystalski , M. , Krajewski , P. ( 2007 ). Constrained estimators of treatment parameters in semiparametric models . Statist. Probab. Lett. 77 : 914919 .[Crossref], [Web of Science ®] [Google Scholar]) proposed the restricted backfitting (RBCF) estimator and restricted Speckman (RSPC) estimator for the treatment effects in a partially linear model when some additional exact linear restrictions are assumed to hold. In this article, we introduce the preliminary test backfitting (PTBCF) estimator and preliminary test Speckman (PTSPC) estimator when the validity of the restrictions is suspected. Performances of the proposed estimators are examined with respect to the mean squared error (MSE) criterion. In addition, numerical behaviors of the proposed estimators are illustrated and compared via a Monte Carlo simulation study.  相似文献

The authors derive the analytic expressions for the mean and variance of the log-likelihood ratio for testing equality of k (k ≥ 2) normal populations, and suggest a chi-square approximation and a gamma approximation to the exact null distribution. Numerical comparisons show that the two approximations and the original beta approximation of Neyman and Pearson (1931 Neyman , J. , Pearson , E. S. ( 1931 ). On the problem of k samples . In: Neyman , J. , Pearson , E. S. , eds. Joint Statistical Papers . Cambridge : Cambridge University Press , pp. 116131 . [Google Scholar]) are all accurate, and the gamma approximation is the most accurate.  相似文献

This article aims to estimate the parameters of the Weibull distribution in step-stress partially accelerated life tests under multiply censored data. The step partially acceleration life test is that all test units are first run simultaneously under normal conditions for a pre-specified time, and the surviving units are then run under accelerated conditions until a predetermined censoring time. The maximum likelihood estimates are used to obtaining the parameters of the Weibull distribution and the acceleration factor under multiply censored data. Additionally, the confidence intervals for the estimators are obtained. Simulation results show that the maximum likelihood estimates perform well in most cases in terms of the mean bias, errors in the root mean square and the coverage rate. An example is used to illustrate the performance of the proposed approach.  相似文献

In the article, it is shown that in panel data models the Hausman test (HT) statistic can be considerably refined using the bootstrap technique. Edgeworth expansion shows that the coverage of the bootstrapped HT is second-order correct.

The asymptotic versus the bootstrapped HT are compared also by Monte Carlo simulations. At the null hypothesis and a nominal size of 0.05, the bootstrapped HT reduces the coverage error of the asymptotic HT by 10–40% of nominal size; for nominal sizes less than or equal to 0.025, the coverage error reduction is between 30% and 80% of nominal size. For the nonnull alternatives, the power of the asymptotic HT fictitiously increases by over 70% of the correct power for nominal sizes less than or equal to 0.025; the bootstrapped HT reduces overrejection to less than one fourth of its value. The advantages of the bootstrapped HT increase with the number of explanatory variables.

Heteroscedasticity or serial correlation in the idiosyncratic part of the error does not hamper advantages of the bootstrapped version of HT, if a heteroscedasticity robust version of the HT and the wild bootstrap are used. But, the power penalty is not negligible if a heteroscedasticity robust approach is used in the homoscedastic panel data model.  相似文献

For the problem of testing the equality of slopes of several regression lines against the alternative that the slopes are in increasing (decreasing) order of magnitude, two types of tests are proposed. These are the likelihood ratio test and a test that depends on suitable linear combination of one group statistics. Rank analogues of the two tests are also examined.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider tests for assessing whether two stationary and independent time series have the same spectral densities (or same autocovariance functions). Both frequency domain and time domain test statistics for this purpose are reviewed. The adaptive Neyman tests are then introduced and their performances are investigated. Our tests are adaptive, that is, they are constructed completely by the data and do not involve any unknown smoothing parameters. Simulation studies show that our proposed tests are at least comparable to the current tests in most cases. Furthermore, our tests are much more powerful in some cases, such as against the long orders of autoregressive moving average (ARMA) models such as seasonal ARMA series.  相似文献

A Monte Carlo simulation was conducted to compare the type I error rate and test power of the analysis of means (ANOM) test to the one-way analysis of variance F-test (ANOVA-F). Simulation results showed that as long as the homogeneity of the variance assumption was satisfied, regardless of the shape of the distribution, number of group and the combination of observations, both ANOVA-F and ANOM test have displayed similar type I error rates. However, both tests have been negatively affected from the heterogeneity of the variances. This case became more obvious when the variance ratios increased. The test power values of both tests changed with respect to the effect size (Δ), variance ratio and sample size combinations. As long as the variances are homogeneous, ANOVA-F and ANOM test have similar powers except unbalanced cases. Under unbalanced conditions, the ANOVA-F was observed to be powerful than the ANOM-test. On the other hand, an increase in total number of observations caused the power values of ANOVA-F and ANOM test approach to each other. The relations between effect size (Δ) and the variance ratios affected the test power, especially when the sample sizes are not equal. As ANOVA-F has become to be superior in some of the experimental conditions being considered, ANOM is superior in the others. However, generally, when the populations with large mean have larger variances as well, ANOM test has been seen to be superior. On the other hand, when the populations with large mean have small variances, generally, ANOVA-F has observed to be superior. The situation became clearer when the number of the groups is 4 or 5.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The one-sample Wilcoxon signed rank test was originally designed to test for a specified median, under the assumption that the distribution is symmetric, but it can also serve as a test for symmetry if the median is known. In this article we derive the Wilcoxon statistic as the first component of Pearson's X 2 statistic for independence in a particularly constructed contingency table. The second and third components are new test statistics for symmetry. In the second part of the article, the Wilcoxon test is extended so that symmetry around the median and symmetry in the tails can be examined seperately. A trimming proportion is used to split the observations in the tails from those around the median. We further extend the method so that no arbitrary choice for the trimming proportion has to be made. Finally, the new tests are compared to other tests for symmetry in a simulation study. It is concluded that our tests often have substantially greater powers than most other tests.  相似文献

In this paper, methods are proposed in finding the robust design in both Taguchi and Standard setups when a signal factor is present. The robust design is a set of level combinations of control factors so that the effect of controllable noise factors on response is minimum. Both univariate and multivariate methods are used in finding the influential noise factors for the determination of robust designs.  相似文献
