中韩学者对中国现代有关朝鲜作品的研究述评

在20世纪前半期的中国现代文学中,有不少描写朝鲜人和朝鲜的作品.80年代中期以来,中韩两国学者对这些值得珍视和铭记的作品,已经作了十分有益的研讨,取得了可喜的成绩,但已有的研究中存在着文献搜集不足和研究视角较狭窄的问题.为解决这些问题,首先需要尽可能全面地收集文献,在此基础上,进一步考察这类作品的文学史意义和思想文化价值,从而使沉睡在中国现代文学历史上的这一重要文学现象在新的时代里焕发出应有的光彩.     

THE IMPACT OF TRADE COSTS ON FIRM ENTRY,EXPORTING, AND SURVIVAL IN KOREA

This study examines how changes in trade costs have affected entry, exit, productivity, and exporting in the Korean manufacturing sector. We verify several predictions of heterogeneous‐firm models of international trade. For example, falling import‐trade costs are associated with less entry and lower market shares among existing domestic firms, and higher total factor productivity for Korean manufacturing as a whole. The size of firms plays an important role in many of our results. New domestic firms are more likely to be small, but large firms are less likely to exit and more likely to have an increase in total factor productivity. (JEL F10, D24)     

STRATEGIC DECISIONS ON LAWYERS' COMPENSATION IN CIVIL DISPUTES

We study a model of civil dispute with delegation in which a plaintiff's lawyer works on a contingent-fee basis but a defendant's lawyer on an hourly fee basis. We first derive the condition under which delegation to the lawyers brings both litigants more payoffs compared with the case of no delegation. We then show that under this profitable delegation condition, the contingent-fee fraction for the plaintiff's lawyer is about one-third. Next, allowing the plaintiff to choose between the two fees, we show that under the profitable delegation condition, the plaintiff chooses the contingent fee, given that the defendant adopts the hourly fee. FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT AND COUNTRY‐SPECIFIC HUMAN CAPITAL

This paper exploits an international bilateral data set over the period 1963–1998 to investigate the relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI) and foreign‐educated labor in an FDI host country. Workers educated abroad acquire country‐specific human capital that is more productive in the host country of study. A foreign subsidiary sharing a parent firm's technology will invest more if it has more foreign‐educated labor, since it can utilize this labor more productively because of the country‐specific human capital. Consistent with our predictions, our empirical findings show that foreign‐educated labor accounted for a sizable portion of growth in FDI flows. (JEL F21, F10)     

TAX-RATE UNCERTAINTY, FACTOR SUPPLIES, AND WELFARE

Uncertainty about prospective changes in tax rates may increase factor supplies, and hence the tax base, permitting a reduction in tax rates that could result in a net increase in welfare. Under empirically relevant assumptions about attitudes towards risk we find that when an individual exclusively saves or works, the tax base rises in response to greater tax-rate uncertainty, so that welfare could indeed increase. However, when an individual both saves and works, the supply of the randomly taxed factor declines with increased uncertainty, implying that tax revenue and welfare decrease when the nonrandom tax rate is sufficiently low.     

河北省新农保试点推进中的难点问题研究

本文基于对河北省新型农村养老保险试点地区的问卷调查,从多视角分析试点运行过程中存在的现实难点问题。研究发现,新农保的制度内容普及度较低、制度吸引力相对不足、制度执行力急需改善、制度公信力期待提升。为保障新农保的稳健性与制度优化,本文提出若干具有针对性的政策建议,以期为促进新型农村养老保险制度的健康可持续发展提供改革参考。     

南北韩经济合作的现状与课题

本文作者以其个人观点和视角,表述了朝鲜半岛南北双方经济合作的现状,就如何推进半岛南北交流合作作了相应阐释,其目的是探求保障韩国国家利益和半岛长远利益的最佳方法。

WOMEN CANDIDATES IN THE NEWS: AN EXAMINATION OF GENDER DIFFERENCES IN U.S. SENATE CAMPAIGN COVERAGE

By covering male and female candidates differently, the newsmedia may influence the success of female candidates for publicoffice. A content analysis was conducted to assess potentiallyimportant differences in the newspaper coverage of a sampleof male and female U.S. Senate candidates in the elections of1982–86. The results of the study show that female candidates for the U.S. Senate are treated differently by the press.Female candidates receive less news coverage and the coveragethey do receive concentrates more on their viability and lesson their issue positions. Furthermore, female candidates' viabilitycoverage is more negative than that of their male counterparts.Given these gender differences in press treatment, we wouldexpect voters' recognition of male candidates to exceed thatof female candidates and we would also expect evaluations offemale candidates to be tied more closely to their perceivedviabil ity. Because female candidates are often considered noncompetitiveby the press, this attention to the horserace may lead votersto develop more negative evaluations of female candidates. Theseresults suggest that current patterns of press coverage mayserve as a critical obstacle for women running for the U.S.Senate.     

An optimal credit policy to increase supplier's profits with price-dependent demand functions

This paper deals with the problem of determining an optimal length of credit period from the perspective of supplier. We assume that a retailer jointly determines the unit retail price and order size to maximize profit when he/she purchases a product for which the supplier offers a trade credit. Two widely used demand functions are adopted for the study in which demands are decreasing functions of the retail price. A procedure is presented which shows how to achieve an optimal length of credit period for suppliers. The effects of credit period on the behaviour of retailers are also investigated using an example.
