Preference for realistic art predicts support for Brexit

Following the UK’s EU referendum in June 2016, there has been considerable interest from scholars in understanding the characteristics that differentiate Leave supporters from Remain supporters. Since Leave supporters score higher on conscientiousness but lower on neuroticism and openness, and given their general proclivity toward conservatism, we hypothesized that preference for realistic art would predict support for Brexit. Data on a large nationally representative sample of the British population were obtained, and preference for realistic art was measured using a four‐item binary choice test. Controlling for a range of personal characteristics, we found that respondents who preferred all four realistic paintings were 15–20 percentage points more likely to support Leave than those who preferred zero or one realistic paintings. This effect was comparable to the difference in support between those with a degree and those with no education, and was robust to controlling for the respondent’s party identity.

Modifying Earplug Wearing Behavior by Behavior Modification Techniques:

A token economy system for, workers and a managerial intervention were developed in an industrial setting to modify the use of ear protectors. The token economy increased workers' use of ear protectors during work shifts, while new managerial standards maintained the level of earplug usage reached during the token economy intervention. As a result of the intervention program, earplug usage reached an operant level of about 95%. This remained stable throughout the follow-up period during which the new managerial stand was in effect. Theoretical and applied implications of organizational maintenance strategies are dismissed in view of the demonstrated effectiveness of the present intervention.     

提高二外日语学习自觉性的对策

在社会对外语专业人才的需求向多语型发展的趋势下,第二外语在英语专业学习中的重要性逐渐显现。对于第二外语的选择,各高校几乎首选的都是日语。但是在日语学习的过程中,学生缺乏学习自觉性的现象非常普遍。在了解自觉性缺乏原因的基础上,有针对性地提出解决对策,以期达到良好的教学效果,最终实现培养合格外语专业人才的目标。     

基于自我概念的伦理领导与员工工作结果研究

从员工自我概念的视角提出一个关于伦理领导的连续中介模型.在假设伦理领导能够通过提升员工所感知的互动公平从而增加其组织自尊,且互动公平与组织自尊在伦理领导和员工工作结果间发挥连续中介作用的基础上,对206名员工及其主管进行两阶段调研,发现在互动公平和组织自尊的连续中介作用下,伦理领导显著地提高了员工的任务绩效、工作满意度和责任行为.研究结果为伦理领导领域提供了一个新的理论框架,进一步揭示了伦理领导对员工产生影响的内在作用机制.     

Developing human resource competencies: an empirical evidence

The paper conceptually defines and empirically investigates the density of work experience along with individual characteristics (cognitive ability, Conscientiousness, and Openness to Experience) and examine their influence on Human Resource (HR) competencies. 274 HR executives from diverse industry background and their supervisors participated in the data collection efforts spread over three phases. Data analyses revealed three key findings (i) executives’ density of work experience positively relates to HR competencies, (ii) executives’ cognitive ability is the strongest predictor of the positive relationship to HR competencies, and (iii) executives with high Conscientiousness tend to achieve levels of density of work experience. Relative weight analyses reinforce that cognitive ability and density of work experience are the most prominent predictors of HR competencies. Implications for practice are discussed.

Influences of individual-related factors and job satisfaction on workplace deviant behaviour among support personnel in Malaysian public service organizations

Workplace deviance has become pervasive in most organizations today. This cross-sectional study examines the influences of individual-related factors and job satisfaction on workplace deviance behaviour among 429 support personnel in Malaysian public service organizations. Samples were randomly selected using multi-stage cluster sampling. The findings of the study indicated that agreeableness, negative affectivity, conscientiousness, emotional intelligence and job satisfaction predicted the organizational deviant behaviour. The same variables, except for emotional intelligence, also correlated to interpersonal deviant behaviour. Implications and suggestion for future research are discussed.
