ABSTRACT

Despite a symbolic shift toward ‘emotional taint’ in dirty work literature, the role of the workplace has not been studied in relation to socially admired professions, such as corporate social responsibility (CSR) work. This article carries out an in-depth, critical examination of CSR as an emotionally tainted occupation in Japan. Its findings, substantiated by an analysis of 34 CSR workers’ rhetoric, help conceptualise ‘internal uselessness’. This emerges when workers feel their organisations publicly foster an image of their work that is decoupled from its internal reality, assigning them chief tasks they consider irrelevant. This leads to negative consequences that damage their workplace social relationships, professional aspirations and emotional well-being. The findings ultimately show that these CSR workers in Japan attempt to counterbalance internal uselessness through a social quest with peers outside their workplace, but also manage their emotions by rationalising their job status as inescapable, influenced by situated commitment norms.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Resilience approaches have been successfully applied in crisis management, disaster response, and high reliability organizations and have the potential to enhance existing systems of nursing home disaster preparedness. This study’s purpose was to determine how the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) “Emergency Preparedness Checklist Recommended Tool for Effective Health Care Facility Planning” contributes to organizational resilience by identifying the benchmark resilience items addressed by the CMS Emergency Preparedness Checklist and items not addressed by the CMS Emergency Preparedness Checklist, and to recommend tools and processes to improve resilience for nursing homes. The CMS Emergency Preparedness Checklist items were compared to the Resilience Benchmark Tool items; similar items were considered matches. Resilience Benchmark Tool items with no CMS Emergency Preparedness Checklist item matches were considered breaches in nursing home resilience. The findings suggest that the CMS Emergency Preparedness Checklist can be used to measure some aspects of resilience, however, there were many resilience factors not addressed. For nursing homes to prepare and respond to crisis situations, organizations need to embrace a culture that promotes individual resilience-related competencies that when aggregated enable the organization to improve its resiliency. Postpartum Depression (PPD) affects approximately 9 - 20% of women. Many women with PPD go undiagnosed and/ or do not follow through on referrals for treatment. Although the most routinely prescribed treatments for PPD are antidepressant medication and psychotherapy, a significant number of women desire non-traditional options. This article provides a systematic review of ten recently published, randomized clinical trials in the examination of the effectiveness of complementary health approaches—the use of non-mainstream products and interventions—on PPD. A search of nine databases of the English language literature from the years 2006 to 2018 was performed. Review criteria included published work, utilization of randomized-controlled trials, and the use of a reliable and valid measurement tool to identify cases of PPD and monitor changes in symptom severity. The studies reviewed focused on the following interventions: aromatherapy, bright light therapy, electroacupuncture, infant massage, iron supplementation, mindfulness training, omega-3 fatty acids, saffron, and yoga. Outcomes demonstrate the feasibility and safety of these approaches, as well as varying degrees of effectiveness. While many were pilot studies using small sample sizes, the results are encouraging and substantiate the need for additional trials. Studies are summarized and limitations and implications for social work and future research are described.  相似文献

党的十九大提出了乡村振兴战略。乡村振兴不仅囊括着产业兴旺、生态宜居、生活富裕等指标,也意指乡风文明、文化繁荣等方面得到实质性提升。在乡村振兴过程中必须高度重视农村文化建设,只有良性文化“留乡”“在乡”,乡风才可能文明,乡村振兴的目标才能实现。当前西部农村文化总体上呈现出良莠共生的状况,良性文化渐呈衰微之势,而非良性文化则日渐抬头。重塑西部农村文化需要坚持良性文化的主导原则,在此基础上,政府需要加强公共文化基础设施建设、加大良性文化的弘扬力度、提升农民对文化客体的辨别和选择能力。  相似文献

My agenda is to ground psychological science in culture by using complex rather than overly simple models of culture and using indigenous categories as criteria of a translation test to determine the adequacy of scientific models of culture. I first explore the compatibility between Chinese indigenous categories and complex models of culture, by casting in the theoretical framework of symmetry and symmetry breaking (Bolender, 2010) a series of translations performed on Fiske's (1991) relational models theory. Next, I show how the dimensional approach to culture, prevalent in mainstream psychology, fails the translation test. Ethical implications of this analysis for cross cultural psychology are discussed.  相似文献
