Interpersonal and Societal Mattering in Work: A Review and Critique

The need exists for a comprehensive literature review of the concept of mattering with regard to work. In response, this review examined a theoretical framework of societal and interpersonal mattering, mattering within the work context, and existing psychometric measures of mattering. The author analyzed the research on the current state of mattering at work, identified core frameworks and psychometric issues that have been investigated to date, and suggests the use of a more comprehensive framework for work mattering that illuminates both the relational and social aspects of the work experience. Several promising directions for future research and potential benefits of incorporating work mattering in career counseling practice emerged and are discussed.     

A qualitative investigation of risk and protective factors for interpersonal violence in adults on the autism spectrum

Abstract

Individuals on the autism spectrum are at an increased risk of experiencing violence. This study sought to understand the opinions of adults on the spectrum regarding potential risk and protective factors for interpersonal violence. Twenty-two adults (12 men; 18 to 53 years of age) participated in semi-structured qualitative interviews. Interviews were recorded, transcribed, and analysed. The results of the qualitative analysis identified individual and contextual risk and protective factors. Protective themes focused on individual needs (awareness of the self and the environment, interpersonal knowledge/skills, skill building strategies) and supportive contexts (benefits of a trusted person, advocates, fostering acceptance and inclusion). There is a need for strategies to decrease the vulnerability to, and the impact of, interpersonal violence. Individuals on the spectrum have the capacity to provide important information regarding safety promotion and risk factors for interpersonal violence, and their expertise should play a role in guiding efforts that promote safety.     

‘What you need to do is …’: social work students’ reflections on an advice giving audit exercise

This paper reports on qualitative research investigating the advice giving behaviours of social work students. Second-year students, who were enrolled in an interpersonal communication skills course, were required to undertake an ‘advice-giving audit’ exercise across 6 days, with the aim of strengthening their awareness of the interactive nature of advice giving. Students then wrote a diary entry about the frequency of their everyday advice giving behaviour, its intent and reception. Nineteen students provided these reflections for analysis. Findings included three themes pertaining to advice-giving: (i) Giving advice as a natural, comfortable and unconscious way of communicating; (ii) Power and position influences advice dissemination, and (iii) Withholding advice opens, deepens and confuses norms of communication. A fourth theme pertained to the insights that students reported from engaging with the exercise. These findings illustrate the complex interactional process associated with professional advice giving. The research also suggests that experiential activities, which are conducted outside of the classroom, have significant potential to promote the critical examination of embedded communicative practices.

大学生人格特征与人际关系的相关研究

采用人格特征问卷和人际关系量表对370名在校大学生进行问卷调查分析。结果显示,大学生的精神质维度在性别、学科性质、学制及是否独生上有显著差异;人际关系水平在学科性质与学制上有显著差异;精神质、神经质维度与人际关系有显著负相关;外倾性与人际关系有显著正相关。表明大学生人格特征是影响人际关系的因素。

人际语法隐喻作为语法隐喻的重要组成部分，是人际意义在语气和情态方面的非一致式表达。语言形式不同，则其传达的语言意义也不尽相同。从语用学、社会学、语篇分析等多个维度综合考察人际语法隐喻非常规表达的语言学意义，挖掘其折射出的特殊人际意义，从而探求人际语法隐喻使用的语言学理据。

组织建言氛围是成员对组织中是否存在着一种接纳或鼓励建言的共享信念或文化感知.根据组织建构理论,个体通过释意过程将从外界环境/氛围领会的信息进行判断处理,从而产生相应的心理氛围,并将其作为自己行动的出发点.研究指出,工作特征、团队氛围、组织环境特征和管理者特征均是个体释意的来源,并经过设定、选择和保留的循环加工过程.其中,后两者并非直接作为释意的来源,而是体现于组织管理理念中,进而指导着组织结构和政策的形成,并在组织管理实践中得以体现和运用,从而作用于个体的释意过程.除此之外,建言氛围的产生和释意过程还受到人际交往的影响,并通过某些心理过程(如心理安全感等)而转化为个体具体的建言活动.

优秀的文学作品通过翻译在全世界广泛流传,以飨各国读者,文学作品的翻译也就承载着实现作者和目的语读者之间的跨文化交际的重任。从功能语言学的一个重要的概念——人际意义的角度考察文学翻译作品,可以发现人际意义的成功传译对译文的质量起着决定性的作用。Halliday的功能语言学将语气和情态作为构成人际意义的主要成分。随着系统功能语言学的发展,人际意义的理论框架得到不断的完善,许多实现人际意义的形式为人们所认识。以系统功能语言学的人际理论为基础,在语气、情态、评价和称谓语四个层面对文学作品翻译中人际意义的跨文化建构问题进行描述和解释,对文学作品的翻译将有所启示。
