| Abstract: | During the last century of the Qing dynasty (1644～1911), the tangzi was a place where men went to engage in sex with other men and young boys. It was also a place where boys were trained to become performers in the Beijing opera.This artide examines the relationship between several well-known Beijing opera performers and the tangzi, thereby demonstrating the significance of the tangzi in the history of late Qing drama. |
