中国是世界上最早认识和利用煤炭的国家之一,有长达六七千年的煤炭开发利用史。古代中国人对煤的岩石性能、岩石分类以及煤的成因已有明确认识,在勘找煤炭方面积累了较丰富的经验,并且形成了传统的煤炭开采技术。这些技术在许多方面有独特的创造,包括井筒开凿、巷道部署、矿井运输、提升、通风、排水、照明等等,充分体现了中国古代煤炭科学技术的先进性。
