An Inquiry into the Chinese Classical Literary Theory

The statement that literature is an expression of emotions is made very late in the West but very early in China. Chinese classical literary theorists emphasize literary productions result from their authors' response to the outside stimuli; that in the whole process of literary productions, emotions are multi-functional; and that in different periods of production, emotions present themselves different forms and perform different functions.
