| Abstract: | In the 20th century, China did much in simplifying and syst em atizing Chinese characters, drawing up and introducing the Scheme for the Chines e Phonetic Alphabet, standardization of spoken and written language and populari zing Putonghua(the common spoken Chinese), and great achievements and instructiv e experiences were obtained, which would be significant for the standardization of spoken and written language in the new century. |
