浅析科技英语翻译中的望文生义错误

通过对科技英语翻译领域内的理论和实践的认真探索,介绍了科技英语这一学科、其特点及其翻译标准,并根据其特点,着重阐述科技英语翻译中出现频率极高的“望文生义”现象。通过大量例句,从词法和句法两个方面对“望文生义”现象所产生的错误进行了具体分析和详尽说明,以期从根源解决问题,提高翻译的准确度。文章还强调科技知识在科技翻译工作中的重要性。本文吁求科技翻译工作者在科技翻译过程中应有耐心、信心、细心、诚心,从而避免科技英语翻译中的“望文生义”现象,使科技英语翻译的质量不断提高。

Analyses of the phenomena of taking words too literally in translation of EST

Considering the increasing needs of disseminating, creating and exchanging information, aiming at arousing translators' consciousness to improve the quality of scientific and technological translation, this paper studies the frequently-occurring phenomena of "taking words too literally" in the translation of English for Science and Technology(EST). Based on the study of the theory of translation and the practical experiences in this field, this paper briefly introduces EST, its features, and its translation criteria; mainly illustrates the phenomena of "taking words too literally" in the translation of EST, expounds them elaborately and analyzes them systematically for the purpose of drawing translators' attention to avoid them in their work and research. The paper discusses the phenomena of "taking words too literally" in EST from the aspects of both morphology and syntax by giving a number of effective examples, and the paper also puts stress on the importance of having sufficient scientific and technical knowledge.
