China's IT Industry and Information Technology Application in the Context of Digital Economy:Status and Policy

In the wake of the rapid development of digital economy, China has always attached great importance to development of IT industry and the improvement of its information technology application. The past decade has witnessed China''s revenue increase in software products and IT services. Headway has been made in telecommunications business revenue, network supply capacity and fixed asset investment. Advanced telecommunications industry in China''s eastern region is in stark contrast to the backward counterpart in China''s central and western regions. On the one hand, the development of digital economy has brought opportunities and posed challenges to China''s IT industry; and on the other hand, it shows that the IT industry has shortcomings in meeting the requirements of digital economic development. In terms of information technology application, industrial software is converging with industrial networks, which have ushered in brand new business modes. AI has been extensively applied to various fields, exerting far-reaching influence upon the digitalization of traditional industries. The scale of industrial networks has been expanding, and public service platforms have been in place. In the context of big data, China''s information technology application is still subjected to some weakness. Some deep-seated problems are to be addressed urgently. In the future, China is expected to expedite the infrastructure construction for IT industry and information technology application, and work hard to improve the quality of IT products and the efficiency of equipment. Efforts and measures should be taken to overcome bottleneck problems in industrial software development, which can help to speed up software iteration, technical upgrade and algorithm improvement.
