This article argues for the continuing relevance of political anthropology as a discipline with a view to foregrounding how it functions as a vital critical hermeneutic with which to engage glo-balism and globalisation.As a counterpoint to cultural anthropology,political anthropology stands to be refashioned in order to examine the new codings of power,authority,and coercion that emerge with hyper-modernity.Through offering a theoretical portrait of globalism’s antinomies and contradictions,this introduction therefore attempts to elaborate the grounds for a political anthropology of the global.
