On the Antiphonal Poems Between Liu Yuxi and Pei Du

Although the antiphonal poems between Liu Yuxi and Pei Du were created out of social intercourse, they manifested sophisticated techniques as well as true feelings between them. The golden period of the antiphon was the year of 828, in which Liu always hid his longing for political success in the praising lines of Pei. Besides, “Qujiang joint sentences” created when they travelled together, though peppered with playful words, epitomize the splendid scene of the past age. After the year of 829, the antiphonal poems between Liu Yuxi and Pei Du were not suspended by their constant migration. Liu Yuxi’s psychological changes and rich emotions can be found in his poems of this period
