Shift of the Chinese Cultural Image at the Turn of the Century

After more than a century’s introspection and criticism, the image of the Chinese culture has been “diminished” and made hollow, thus gradually wandering away from our daily life and the prosperous modern culture, reduced to fragments in the remote memory. Under the holistic strong influence of Eurocentrism, the reputation of the Chinese culture has been seriously undermined both at home and in the Western world, its image made extremely feeble and unrecognizable. In recent years, the prosperity of our economy and the increasingly stronger national power have caused historic change in China’s position in the world and facilitated great opportunities for the reconstruction of its cultural image. The shaping of this image by which to face the world has become a significant ordeal for the revival of the Chinese culture, and at the same time incubating a crucial historical witness.
