郭嵩焘教育思想刍议

A SUMMARY OF GUO SONGTAO'S THOUGHT ON EDUCATION

A variety of educational thoughts can be found in Guo Songtao's diary,poems,essays,letters,works and autobibliography.He thought that education in school was relative to the virtue of the society,the efficiency of the program "Learning from the West",and above all the rise of China.In practice,he emphasized equal importance on morality and intelligence,paid more attention to the knowledge of practical use,promoted the learning of technology,and referred to the education of art and sports,He appreciated the education method of "enlightening students",which was flexible and changeable.He wanted to amend the way to test students and advised the Qing government sponsor the policy of assigning students to study in United States and Europe.Guo Songtao's education thoughts were not only of great importance in enlightening his age and society,but also of value until today.
