Poetics of bamboo slips in Shanghai Museum is the earliest work ever known of Confucius' disciples on The Book of Songs. The discovery of it is of great value to clarify the origin of The Book of Songs and the inheritance and different schools of Confucian poetry. It is of special importance to clear up the sources of Preface to Mao Shi and The Mao Shi Commentary. Many scholars have made enlightening study and inference concerning this problem. Among them, the views of Li Xueqin, Liao Mingchun and Jiang Linchang are quite representative, yet there are still certain points to be discussed.
