An Interactive Illustration of Metaphorical Mechanism from the Standpoints of Conceptual Metaphor and Conceptual Blending

Metaphors have been traditionally regarded as a figure of speech,an ornamental device used in rhetorical style.Thanks to those current fruitful discussions of cognitive semantics originated by George Lakoff,metaphors have been universally acknowledged as a unique powerful mechanism to perceive and comprehend the world.However,some novel and abstract categories within metaphorical mechanism have surpassed the domain of Conceptual Metaphor.Conceptual blending theorists turn out to be fairly persuasive in counting for new emergent conceptualizations that have been inadequately accounted in the arena of Conceptual Metaphor.It is tentatively proposed,accordingly,that the two theories are essentially complementary and interactive rather than competitive and thus should be combined in a joint effort to reveal the mysterious metaphorical mechanism.
